MemberOvomorphAug-27-2012 2:44 PMI am about to throw something extremely unlikely but semi-possible out for debate, brace yourselves: What if Shaw becomes the first xeno queen? Saw that the only way to survive the second encounter with the Engineer is to consume the black goo. Remember the way her body reacted to direct contact with one already infected with it (intercourse with Holloway). Instread of transforming, she surgically gives birth to a tribolithe, the proto-facehugger. She uses this to fight off the Engineers which unbeknownst to her creates more deacons.
Somewhat beyond reality, I know. But hey, its sci-fi, anything goes. Plus I thought I read that Dan O'Bannon would serve as an advisor for Scott, so we might see a stronger connect towards the original franchise. And if you think about it, Scott can't really explore the Prometheus universe anymore with making more links to Alien.

MemberOvomorphAug-27-2012 3:25 PMInteresting, I won't reject that idea and the concept has been seen in other films; hero is outmatched and needs that magical potion or super steroids to enhance. Epic battle occurs.. or something like that.

MemberOvomorphAug-27-2012 4:24 PMDon't think Sir Ridley's gonna take the "Alien Queen" idea. Actually I don't think he's gonna take the "alien" idea at all. He did what the fans and FOX would demand: a hint of 1979's Alien concept. Other than that he's in for another kind of gig.

MemberOvomorphAug-27-2012 6:00 PMHonestly though, Ridley nows that a.) In order to explore deeper into the story of the Engineers, he has to make more sophicated links to Alien and b) many of the fans were greatly disappointed with Prometheus because of its distance from the franchise. He knows that if he disapoints them again, the cash will disappear, and when the cash disappears, so does 20th Century Fox.
He's in a rock and a hard place to say the least. I just hope he and his writer make a better decision this time.

Time will tell, we have no idea what Ridley hides up his sleeve for a sequel. Sure, something different for Prometheus, but that's done now and it divided fans. It would be foolish as a director to disregard from criticism.

MemberOvomorphAug-27-2012 7:37 PMIndeed. I'm almost thinking he will do the same with Paradise that he did for Prometheus. Make it look like it has no connection to the original franchise whatsoever, and then, in the final act, give a strong, blatant relation towards the original franchise . . . maybe even with something "outside" suprises as well.

MemberOvomorphAug-27-2012 7:40 PM@David 1: I can honestly only hope so. A little xeno candy would be okay, but only as a side-note. Engineers!

MemberOvomorphAug-27-2012 8:37 PMNo, no, no.
I'd walk out of the theater if that happened.
I'd rather tie off Prometheus, bury it, and burn the map.
Let's not try to shoehorn the Alien in there any more than we have to.

MemberOvomorphAug-27-2012 9:58 PMAs much as I can respect your respect for the film's originality, Xenotron, you and I both know that SOMETHING will connect it towards alien and will definitely connect it furthermore to Prometheus's connections with the original franchise.

MemberOvomorphAug-28-2012 1:05 AMIt's not that I respect Prometheus' originality (because I don't think it's very original), I just wish that it wasn't burdened with the baggage of the Alien franchise as much as it was.
If the sequels can drop the xenomorph--or even the deacon--then they'll have room to tell a more intriguing story. As it stands, Prometheus is full of random and inconsequential events that felt like they were mostly there as winks to the audience.
If Shaw is going to mutate into an Alien Queen, the movie had better have a different main character. The only way that would work is if it was thematically similar to The Fly.

MemberOvomorphAug-28-2012 1:41 AMJust a quick note: I doubt that the very nice O'Bannon could do anything for Sir Scott, The Master Writer O'Bannon just died fiew years ago, i know, he is really unskilled ^^

MemberOvomorphAug-28-2012 8:19 AMheh....
i kept looking at spoilers before i saw the movie and told my bf about the whole shaw-trillobite incident and he said " so she is kind of like... the first queen".
that was before we got to see the movie on opening night at midnight.
i said "ehh.. no not really..." but i understand his/your point of view more now.
although i have a different point of veiw myself.
"prometheus" wasnt that long before "alien" and the space jockey they found in "alien" they insinuated it was fossilized over a very long period of time.
there where eggs all over that chamber with no sort of queen or any other creature dead or alive, present.
during the movie in the directors cut, the alien was mutating humans into eggs... no queen needed.
in prometheus there where no eggs of any kind. maybe the deacon will be like a xeno and mutate humans into eggs when it reaches adulthood, maybe it reproduces in a completely different way.
in my opinion a "queen" is the cameron version that is a big egg plopping machine...
not just a name for an individual that just happened to get infected.
if shaw is considered a queen then it seems you can go back further and halloway should be considered the queen since he started the breeding cycle.

MemberOvomorphAug-28-2012 11:19 AMEven if O'Bannon was alive, keep in mind that the script used for Alien was rewritten by David Giler and Walter Hill. They changed all the characters, spruced up the dialogue, and added Ash as an android. There weren't any androids in O'Bannon's script.
The original script is included on the Alien Quadrilogy DVD as an extra and I've read it. It was really dry and uninteresting.
Actually, Dan O'Bannon left production because Scott and the rest were changing everything and he got upset. He still got the writing credit though.

MemberOvomorphSep-01-2012 11:04 AMI don't think Shaw will be any further affected by the black goo. It seems to me that once it comes in contact with genetic material (Holloway's) it's spent.

MemberOvomorphJan-03-2013 6:30 AMI have been thinking over the time between Holloway's firery death scene and when Shaw wakes up.
How much time did elapse?
When she collapse who is to say how long she was unconscious?
I mention this because a basic tenet is that Holloway infected Shaw. This is the most obvious but is it correct?
David conducted his Goo experiment on Holloway with fatel results.
In David's thinking another experiment is in order and uses Shaw as a test subject.
Who wanted Shaw to wake up? Not Weyland or David or Vickers. Ford was just part of the medical team and would do what David wanted her to do.
Perhaps Janek would want Shaw around but only if she was healthy. His Ship was under attack and he starting to think out just what the Engineer/Domes are all about.
After Shaw Shaw shut down everything with the passing of Holloway to when David tries to remove her Father's cross is short screen time. I think there was much more activity in and around Shaw that is not mentioned.
And I would be curious in the details.
Trivial in some aspects but perhaps makes a great impact on understanding our movie's charactors.
Be choicelessly aware as you move through life

I wholeheartedly agree, for whatever it's worth. The film suffered a lot because it didn't know whether it was a prequel or not. Either way would have been fine, but please oh creators, pick one and stick with it. As it stands, it disappoints those who wanted that prequel, as well as those who wanted an original franchise. For some value of original.
I for one would have preferred a stand-alone franchise, with no connection to Alien at all. Boom.
And if that had happened, I'm sure the film would have found its own audience, without preconceptions that there have to be xenomorphs in.
As to Shaw becoming the first Xenoqueen- oh dear. I hope not, that's a rather cheap grab at trying to be part of the Alien franchise.
If you do want to off Shaw using the black goo, Snorkelbottom had an idea which actually makes a lot of thematic sense- after a series of events too convoluted to recount here, she seeds a planet with her DNA, Engineer-style.
The whole point of this is lost if you keep it a secret.
