MemberOvomorphSep-04-2012 1:34 AMthis is just an interview with Ian Whyte, the actor who played the LAST ENGINEER...

At a towering 7ft 1in tall, Ian – former Newcastle Eagles and England basketball player – was perfect to play the enigmatic ‘Last Engineer’ in the summer sci-fi blockbuster, the exciting prequel to the Alien series.

Ian revealed we’ll get to see much more of him when the film comes out on DVD next month (source SUNDAY SUN)
did you see what they did there, just THREW IT AWAY, the Last Engineer!
Yeah, we'll 'see more of him on DVD', whatever that means, but does this phrase imply that ALL THE ENGINEERS HAVE DIED, WERE KILLED OR ARE JUST ALL DEAD as the Prometheus film begins?
WILL PARADISE BE EMPTY?

MemberOvomorphSep-04-2012 11:02 AMCool, Thanks FreePlanet I always like these sort of things. Helps fill out the movie experience for me.

MemberOvomorphSep-04-2012 1:56 AMThink he means the dialogue between between Last Engineer and David.
And maybe some more screentime showing the Engineer operating the Juggernaut, or walking around looking really cool.

MemberOvomorphSep-04-2012 3:05 AMWoot!!!
Hope in Paradise has way moore engineers alive than dead in the first one >_<

MemberOvomorphSep-04-2012 3:10 AMWhat if the engineer civilisation is killed, ruined, by the alien like creatures.
and Paradise would be hell then. I rather see something like that coming.

MemberOvomorphSep-04-2012 4:25 AMkeep-itreal,
sound (to me) more like the title of his character, in the script, might have been The Last Engineer.
Now, whether that meant 'the last engineer' alive on planet LV-223, or THE LAST ENGINEER alive in the universe.
*shrugs*
Dunno.........

MemberFacehuggerSep-04-2012 4:56 AMI am not sure if this woman from the sunday sun knows what maybe ridley himself doesn't know but that would be an amazing thing if she does!

Engineering
MemberOvomorphSep-04-2012 6:56 AMHe's actually listed in the credits and I have always called him the "Final Engineer." He's called this because he's the last one in in the film. The engineer's have names in the credits given to identify them during filming and to the audience. Instead of listing them as "Engineer 1, 2, 3" they listed them as "Sacrificial Engineer" "Ghost Engineer" and "Final Engineer."
I bet he was the last engineer left on LV-233. DEfinitely not the last in the universe or of his kind.

MemberNeomorphSep-04-2012 8:19 AM^^^^ What Engineering said ^^^^
Also, i thought the man in the Predator suit was called Kevin Hall? Or something like that.
The poster was good though!

MemberOvomorphSep-04-2012 10:17 AMWho is the Ghost Engineer? The one whose head was cut by the temple's door? Or the one shown in hologram? But I remember the engineers should be CG in the hologram(except the last engineer)...

MemberDeaconSep-04-2012 2:58 PMWell apparently yes there is a series of Dialog between the Engineer and David in which they exchange a few lines and thus not a one way conversation.
And also the Shaw vs Engineer Scene was Cut down as well.
Not to forget that the Sacrificial Engineer also had a few lines of Dialog he had to learn in the Engineer Language, which must be between him and one of the Elders from the full Sacrificial/Beginning of Life/Seeding Scene.
As far as Paradise, well its not much of a movie if Shaw and David find a Baron world with no one at home or alive or if its only got Xeno type Organisms.
So yes i think this is where we would meet the Elders and more Engineers and maybe even more surprises.

MemberOvomorphSep-04-2012 5:39 PM@necronom 4, Kevin Hall did play the predator in the first, perhaps the 2nd Predator movie, but I thought I read after Predator 2 he had passed away.
Yeah the Final Engineer in Prometheus I thought was so kool. That look he gave David right before he ripped David's head off, I thought it spoked volumes in regards to something like " WTF, this old geezer wants more life? Your asking me? I am no creator, I am a destroyer you poor fool, let me show you " you guys know the rest of the story.
I read his interview, what bothered me is that Ian Wyte stated :
" playing the Last Engineer – the last of a race of aliens found on a planet that a group of explorers encounter – was his most memorable to date. "
I hope he meant the last of his race on LV 233 or 223, I get the number twisted at times, great find btw FreePlanet....
I should reach the frontier in about 6 weeks. With a little luck, the network will pick me up. This is Ripley, last survivor of the Nostromo....

MemberOvomorphSep-04-2012 10:02 PM@w_star...The hologram engineers were cg but they were all filmed and played by actors, then the cg was done. As far as the sacrificial and final engineers there was very little cg used for them. They used cg to make their eyes larger so they'd be in proper proportion with their head/body size. There was one other tiny detail they used cg for but for the most part what you saw on screen was what they filmed.
I've mentioned a few times that Ian Whyte stood on an apple box during filming to make him a little taller. That's how bad Scott wanted to keep things in camera as is the norm with him. If you look at his height when he is standing next to humans or David compared to when he's alone standing next to the cockpit chair you can kind of tell he's shorter.

MemberDeaconSep-05-2012 10:43 AMYes indeed thats what Ridley likes to do, he is old school.
And he prefers the likes of Practical effects over CGI.
Carpenter had said the new Thing movie suffered because its over use of CGI compared to his Original.
The Engineer looked big compared to the Pilot Chair.
He looked big when he confronted David etc.
But in keeping with practical he made a massive error of judgement in the Engineer vs Shaw scene as that scene and thus more so in the full one and the shot of him running through the door of the Life Boat all go to show that the Engineer was only a few inches taller than Ian Whytes 7ft 1" frame.
In hindsight Ridley should had gone for the special effects like LOTR did and how Hobit movie does to give the illusion of the Hobits being smaller than man.

Engineering
MemberOvomorphSep-05-2012 11:08 PMI don't know. Looks fine to me and I doubt your average viewer or even your quite devoted fan would notice.
The film looked so amazing at times there were things-like the frankengineer head coming to life-that I could have SWORN were full on cg only to find out that they had little or no cg in them whatsoever.

MemberOvomorphSep-06-2012 5:43 AMremember that OLD JAPANESE SOLDIER they often find in the forest or in the mountains somewhere west of the Pacific, who thinks WORLD WAR TWO is still on?
I wonder if Prometheus is about THAT PHENOMENON?
After thousands of years of 'scientific mucking aroundness' has the ENGINEER legacy finally been usurped by their experimentations in XENO and now WHOLE PLANETS OF GIGERLIKE ASS-PUSSY PENETRATIONS are our there in the Universe where Engineer Planets used to be?
Is a MASSIVE SPACE DILDO heading for Mother Earth's gaping honey pot of transmutational potential?
You'all get my drift, right?
