I heard it was leviticus. But i also heard that it is latin for something else. Both LV 223 and LV 426 are planetoids or moons. The Latin translation of Moon is 'Luna' but i've no idea what the V could stand for?

The poster was good though!

I always heard Leviticus.
"Say to them: 'For the generations to come, if any of your descendants is ceremonially unclean and yet comes near the sacred offerings that the Israelites consecrate to the LORD, that person must be cut off from my presence. I am the LORD. Leviticus 22:3
Cameron just made it up, is all. A two-letter prefix followed by three digits gives you more than half a million designated places to work with.

zzplural said the truth but many people have come up some good meanings like:
Landing Vector Larcanitus Vectis Lunar Vector Location Vector Luna Vivus
But in the original Alien the planet was called Livinum 426 which in english means Object no. 426 Source

@Feebs...That "source" is rather iffy, innit? The poster even says "I think" as in it's not a fact and never in all my reading and watching of the Alien franchise and all it's extras have I come across anyone involved with the film stating that in the first Alien the planetoid was called "Livinum 426." I've always heard, like many others have posted, that Cameron just made "LV 426" up for Aliens. BTW...I thought we weren't allowed to link other Prometheus forums lol.

@Engineering Then I shall rethink my thinking and think better next time. . .but I don't stand on the opinion, just something what I found when I googled it @Necronom 4 Life in latin is 'vita' so it could be luna vita = moon life. . . . >.< sounds corny :|
