MemberOvomorphSep-20-2012 8:10 PMHey guys question to all the other fans or not fans who saw the movie. I noticed this and noticed alot of people complaining about Weylands makeup. People saying why didnt RS just get an actual old actor to play the part. The makeup on Guy Pierce looks so face, looks like a bunch of styrofoam.
Now I'm watching the official release on iTunes in HD and noticing that Weyland actually looks like an old guy. The makeup looks legit, it doesnt even look bad anymore. Even I thought it could have looked better in the theater release, but it looks completely fine to me now.
What are yalls thoughts?

MemberOvomorphSep-20-2012 8:36 PMIf the role was for an older man then...Isn't it better to hire Anthony Hopkins? or otherwise I prefer the young Guy Pearce.

MemberOvomorphSep-20-2012 8:47 PMbtw the *Darth Vader / Luke* cliche was not necessary for the plot IMHO.

MemberOvomorphSep-20-2012 8:55 PMI didnt notice any Darth Vader/Luke cliche in that movie anywhere. There wasnt even a father/son in this movie. Unless you actually count David as Weylands son, in which case i fail to see any relevant Darth Vader/Luke comparison between them.

MemberOvomorphSep-20-2012 9:07 PM@Cypher, yeah indeed many already knew about Vickers before the premiere but also if she had not been his daughter as we saw in the movie then maybe Peter Weyland had been as a young man like in the TED viral video. (IMO the best appearance of all)

Co-AdminMemberOvomorphSep-20-2012 9:00 PMI think Shambs was referring to the Vickers/Weyland thing, which most of us had guessed well before the film was released................................. And yeah I thought the make up job was pretty good, I didn't even recognise him as Guy Pearce.................

"Is it dead this time?" "I dunno, poke it with this stick and see."

MemberOvomorphSep-20-2012 9:02 PMone of my biggest problems (apart from makeup) is the voice, for me it does not sound like a man of that age but anyway what's done is done and I just hope that the sequel is better than this first movie.

MemberFacehuggerSep-20-2012 9:20 PMAs someone who works with some geriatrics, I think the make-up was excellent. I also didn't recognize him as Guy Pearce at first, but once I realized it was him I could see the likeness and I thought it worked nicely. I even thought Guy Pearce did a pretty good job of selling it with his movements and voice. I think part of the reason it looks a little "off" is because of the (feigned) "futuristic" clothing and space suits. Especially since he gets up and walks fairly normally (but that's presumably because he's using some fancy prosthesis that assists him for walking).
Here's what I mean, look at the difference:

If you put him in a plaid flannel shirt, gave him some reading glasses, and applied some old man odor, you'd never know the difference.
