MemberOvomorphSep-24-2012 3:55 PMGreetings, tyrellcorp.
The events in Prometheus happen quite a few years before those in Alien. Although they have similar names, LV_223 and LV_426 are in fact completely different moons separated by many light years.

MemberDeaconSep-24-2012 4:41 PMThey are different moons.
Now we do not know the significance of LV 4** and LV 2** but i would not think that say LV 426 and LV 223 are to repesent moons around the same Gas Giant Planet.
At best it could be that L4** could be moons around one Planet and LV2** around another in the same system.
So lets say Saturn runs moons are LV6** so say one moon would be LV 612 another LV 624 etc while Jupiters are LV5** thus say LV 512 and LV 524 etc
Or they could be designated the LV number depending on System thus LV 223 and LV 426 are not moons around different planets in the same system but in totally different systems altogether.
Well the movie is suposed to be set around the Zeta Reticuli systems so say Zeta 1 could be LV 2** and Zeta 2 is LV4**
We really are not given what the LV designates but all we know is that LV 426 and LV 223 are not vastly far away, maybe same system but certainly within close range as far as Stars goes.

MemberOvomorphSep-24-2012 8:37 PMwe are still deducting or creating ideas about these planets! may be the same (or maybe ridley finally surprised us with a new idea that I finally join the Alien franchise with Prometheus!)

MemberOvomorphSep-24-2012 10:55 PMIn case you missed this, there is no mention of Zeta Reticuli (the location of LV-426) in Prometheus. What there is is a star map showing that LV-223 is in the constellation of Gemini or thereabouts. Perhaps someone with access to a digital copy can do a frame grab to verify this. If this is the case, the two moons are about 70 light years apart.

MemberOvomorphSep-25-2012 12:28 AMLook at the Gas Giant those LV223 orbits, and watch Alien...it is not conclusive but the Gas Giant seems the same. Different moons of the same planetary system?
Not conclusive though, as Gas Giants might be similar to each other...or not...

MemberOvomorphSep-25-2012 2:59 AMThey look very different. It's been a while since I watched Alien, but the colours do not match.
Ring systems are very common around planets. I'm looking forward to getting the HD download because I wasn't sure at the cinema whether LV-223 was orbiting a gas giant or a solid body.

MemberOvomorphSep-25-2012 8:09 AMDifferent ? Is it now?
Please rewatch Alien...I just did that and compared both scenes depicting the gas giant, and they look awfully familiar (color included)...
That was a wild post XD

MemberOvomorphSep-25-2012 10:15 AMThe planet around which LV-426 orbits is not a gas giant. It is brownish in colour, has surface topography and a thin atmosphere. I just checked. LV-426 has a similar appearance but is, of course, much smaller.
The planet around which LV-223 orbits has a decidedly blue tint. I don't have screen grabs available, but I would concede that this also may not be a gas giant.

Note the similarity between LV-426 and its parent. The two moons and ring system are roughly coincident with the equatorial plane of LV-426. The striation features on the planet and LV-426 cannot be gaseous for reasons of basic physics. They more resemble lava flows or fault regions.
I don't have any screen grabs of LV-223 at this time.
