it's an old Giger image dating back to when Giger had a severe Debbie Harry fetish and points towards a general sarcophagus outline-inspiration for the Prometheus escape pod. OMG I forgot all about him making her album cover and all the art he did with her involved in some way. She truly was his muse for a couple of years. TY this is so gorgeous!

Nice picture. It may have had an influence on the design, but then again, the actual pods do look awfully like Egyptian mummy caskets. At the end of the day, it's got to be something that more or less fits the human form.

well ... most of the 'most obvious' things are only really obvious AFTER you've seen them. Otherwise they're unobvious, obviously. Here's the song, "Giger and Harry sitting in a tree - k . i . s . s . i . n . g."

You mean obvious like this? I think they beat Giger to it...

ZZ, "Yes the chicken came before the egg." I agree with you. In fact I've gone back into my original post and highlighted the word SARCOPHAGUS for you. What I mean by this is, "This is a Giger-inspired art thread about a Giger-inspired art film, not a history thread about the lastest National Geographic findings." We dig?

Your thread title posed a question as to whether the escape pod was inspired by Giger. I'm answering your question by replying "maybe". What's your answer?

ZZ, I wonder if that's all you're doing - I'm trying to show Giger was a) influenced by sarcophagi so much so that he b) encased Debbie Harry in one for sixteen thousand years where a strange symmetrical fungus grew upon her flesh. LOL

But what is your answer to the question that you put in the title? Do you think that the escape pod was inspired by Giger or not? I'd really like to know.

ZZ, I know you 'claim' to be reading the title right but the phrase "Giger-inspiration" doesn't mean 'Giger is the inspiration'. This hyphenation literally means, "Is this another way that Giger has influenced Prometheus? Put it this way, I like that Giger ALREADY had Debbie Harry encased in such an 'escape pod' design - again, he's setting the PROMETHEUS LOOK, as he did with his unused Dune Harkonnen Castle design used for the Juggernaut Hangar and maybe even the HAMMERPAEDO. Giger's real input (direct or borrowed) into Prometheus still has not been fully audited, imho. Didn't one member say they had compiled 'a cache of Giger imagery' to show his influence on the look of Prometheus?
