MemberFacehuggerOctober 04, 2012Holy Space Christ, I cannot wait for the new Riddick film. Big fan. I wish they'd hurry up and announce a release date already. How hard is that to do? A teaser poster or something would also be nice (hopefully this isn't a sign of poor marketing). Vin does quite a bit of his own marketing on Facebook, but he's been quiet for quite some time...

...I wonder...
If Chris... would maybe want to make a Riddick site...
Who's in?!
LOVE THE RIDDICK UNIVERSE.
One of the best Sci-Fi series of the last 10+ years.
But, BUT! Listen up, folks...
Now. One thing worries me...
I'm not liking what i'm hearing about the story so far...
I don't want it to be another Pitch Black. Good movie. But it was GOOD, as an INTRODUCTION! Not a full Riddick movie. The Chronicles of Riddick was the first...
And i thought it would start off from where the last film ended.
I want the story to delve deeper into the Necromongers. Riddick to visit the underverse. To learn about the underverse.
What the hell is THIS?! NOT COOL!
Oh, and i absolutely love the long run time of Chronicles of Riddick.
And the complexity of the series' universe. The codex of information.
Very encyclopedic.
Chronicles Director's Cut <3.

As far as where the story is going.. I think they had to adjust things a little bit because Chronicles had too big of a budget for the fanbase to support it. They had initially planned "Underverse" and "Furya" next. But they've scaled it back to a much thinner budget, but the good news is that it will be back to the 'R' rating, which I am very excited about. That's great news. (It sounds like they've adjusted the story to have another film before we get to Underverse and Furya, so it means MORE RIDDICK!) Haha. I love Chronicles of Riddick, but I can see why some people say it's not as good as Pitch Black. The special effects sort of took away from the story, and I think the Necromongers actually might have worked better if they had a little bit more mystery surrounding them instead of being fully exposed. But anyway... they've taken a long time to develop this film and get it heading back in the right direction, so I trust them. Vin and Twohy have stated that taking a long time was never about getting support for the film, but only about getting it right. From what I've read about the story, it sounds like it's going to rock. They're trying to have the more intimate feel of Pitch Black while also still staying true to the mythology introduced in Chronicles.. I trust that they know what they're doing. I've been waiting 8 or 9 years for this sequel... oh dear lord, it's going to be sweet seeing Riddick ripping mercs apart with an 'R' rating this time... haha

I actually preferred pitch black but both were surprisingly good but not classics for me - deffo worth a watch!
"It's almost as if they are making it up as they go along" :D

@dopelganger
Thanks! I've seen them all, though. Hopefully I can resist watching the trailers when they come out, though, cuz I don't like to spoil stuff (trailers show way too damn much anyway). I avoided trailers for Prometheus and it was one of the best things I've ever done... definitely one of my favorite movie-going experiences.

YAY!! This looks great. Much more of a fan of Pitch Black. I don't understand how PB was in a realistic Alien like universe, then CoR was super fantasy Star Wars. Made no sense to me. Not a bad film, just way too different in style, tech level, and story. I mean, a magic wind lady would have been laughable in Pitch Black.
I may work for the company, but im really an OK guy.
October 06, 2012
To me the jump from Pitch Black to Chronicles worked fine except for the Elementals (the "magic wind lady" as you said, lol). That shit is kind of dumb to me, but I still love the premise. The Necromongers were a brilliant idea. It is kind of an adult version of Star Wars, no lame f#cking Ewoks.. heh

There are some cheesy stuff in Riddick, but still a great sci-fi. Kind of a wide open sci-fi universe with a LOT of potential back story with each race. I especially love the concept and visuals of a race or cult invading and and conquering complete planets at a time with a massive armada.

Update from Twohy!
Twohy News
Feels like I’m back in production!
Been pulling 14-hour days trying to finish RIDDICK. My typical day starts at 9am with intensive visual effects meetings, sweating out the details of our 900 VFX shots. Then I jet across town to the mix stage, Soundelux, where I supervise the sound, balancing out the often-competing elements of music, sound fx, sound design, and dialog. At night I hit the lab, Technicolor in Hollywood, staying until midnight to do “DI work” — color-correction of the movie. This is where David Eggby and I have one last chance to get the images right, dropping in grads and power windows to finesse what we shot on set. It’s a great tool, the Digital Intermediate. Kind of like Photoshop for movies. Gotta love it. Gotta love the challenge of bringing it all home.
The studio is supposed to announce the release date this month, too, btw.
November 19, 2012
I'm not impressed. That sequel committed ritual commercial suicide and what's more the studio tried to get slick with it by dropping the actress who was the original 'Jack/Jackie' for an 'upgrade' and then this spiel about Riddick being a Furian.
From that point on with these two frustratingly bungling issues I realized the phony attempt to go series in an empty, by the numbers way.

@Subsume:
If there was a problem with the sequel it was the fact that it was PG-13 and had too big of a budget (Not the things you mentioned). And those problems are eliminated with this next installment.

Vin posted on Facebook that Universal is going to view the film today to decide the release date. Sweet..
