True Speed Of Prometheus

By my meager calculations I figured the Prometheus was traveling 23.77 x the speed of light in order to reach the distance in 28.5 months. Here are my reasons to reach this answer. Distance Traveled: 327,000,000,000,000 Miles Speed Of Light: 16,094,764,800 Miles = 1 day Speed Of Light: 5,874,589,152,000 Miles = 1 year Speed Of Light: 13,761,023,904,000 Miles = 28.5 months Multiply 13,761,023,904,000 x 23.77 = 327,099,538,198,080 Miles So the ship would have to be traveling just under 23.77 times the speed of light to reach this destination in this time frame. This can be accomplished by an Alcubierre drive or worm hole.

You're correct. They have faster than light travel. Probably for practical reasons for the movie. It also means that Special Relativity is working and we don't have any real way of knowing how much time has passed on earth by the time the Prometheus gets to LV223. As I've mentioned before, the events of Alien could very well have come and gone by then, so there won't be any "blending" of Prometheus and the Alien movies.

That is why I hope they are using the Alcubierre drive concept so times are constant between Earth and Prometheus.

Following my idea here, I think everything is logical since the "Prometheus" universe is a dream! In dreams the laws of nature don't really matter, everything is possible and of course symbolic!

I was wondering if the 'time dilation' aspect would be addressed as Ridley Scott mentioned in the early 'Prequel' days.

I thought I saw the Prometheus ship's speed notated when it is first seen? Was it 2.37x10 to the 14th?

The distance to LV-223 from Earth is written on the screen, as 3.27 x 10 to the 14th power, or 327 trillion km. It's in km, not miles, first let me say, and that the speed of light is app. 10 trillion km per year. If it took Prometheus two years, then each reach its speed was 16.35x the speed of light.

I wish I was more adept at understanding the light years calculations,, But if the actual travel time to the moon was going to be between to 2-3 years in 'Ship Time' would there even be a need to put the crew.(I could understand Weyland because of his advanced age) in stasis? With a 5 or 10 year 'ship time' travel plan ... I could understand using stasis more,,, But a 2 year trip is too short to have a storyline that included sleeping crew members being tended to by David might have need not needed. Those awake travel years could have beem put to better use by letting the team get to know each other,,,,,and for David,,to see the npersonailties in action...before thye landing.
