Co-AdminMemberOvomorphOct-11-2012 9:40 PMI myself am using my ps3 to watch the bluray. I just let it load, didn't have to update anything, it did it on it's own. It does take a bit of time to load, this is a new updated bluray disc.
I will advise you not to look at the live extras, it's just trailers to movies and it locked up my ps3. No need to go to that.
If you have further issues, playstation has a free hotline to call, and the operators are very helpful. Hope this information helps....
Again, I have seen the movie several times plus the documentary (I got the 4 disc set)

MemberOvomorphOct-11-2012 11:00 PMI too am having problems, but I have a Pioneer player with the latest firmware.
It takes sooooooooooooo long to load. Sometimes I just get the black screen as well. If I interupt it and try to skip to the top menu I can get it to work sometimes.
I don't think it's your PS3 I think it's the disc.
I may try to exchange it.
It's funny that you started this post, I've been online googling the problem and haven't found anyone else with the issue except your post.

Co-AdminMemberOvomorphOct-11-2012 11:22 PMTrue Cinefan, I thought of making a thread on this news but I thought it must have just been "my copy" also.
So... kind of want to direct this thread to problems with the disc for future reference. Will get on this tomorrow.
Again, I did have a serious load time at first, but I have put the disc in several times without a problem. Hope that helps you all out some.

MemberOvomorphOct-12-2012 8:53 AMThe PS3 is usually the one blu-ray unit that will play any blu-ray - since Sony invented the format and therefore, are the most up to date with updates. However, I had the same problem playing the blu-ray on my Pioneer Elite BDP-09 player. It took a extraordinary long time to load and then when arriving at the menu screen (Weyland), it locked up after a couple of repeats. I eventually had to power cycle the player to regain control and then did a firmware upgrade. After the upgrade, the blu-ray played, but the scene selection system was still sluggish and buggy. For example, after the painfully slow wait to advance from one scene to the next, I lost the audio stream. I had to then power cycle my A/V processor to get the sound back. There's some serious problems with this disc - probably a product of the digital copy protection. By the way, I discovered that using the skip button was the only way to advance to a scene without losing the audio sync/stream.

MemberOvomorphOct-12-2012 1:40 PMJust bought the 4-disc pack and am having the same problem running the 2D Blu-Ray disc. The other discs all run fine. The 2D Blu-Ray, however, will run the 'extras' (i.e.--the 30-minutes of deleted scenes) just fine. No glitches. BUT, when I try to play the actual movie, it plays the Fox logo and then starts digitally 'blocking' and freezing up. The sound will continue during the freeze, but the picture is unwatchable (even when it unfreezes momentarily before freezing again). I have chapter-stopped throught the movie to the end, and the freezing and blocking is constant throughout. I am using a two-year old Sony Blu-Ray player. I took the disc back and exchanged it as defective, however, the new disc does exactly the same thing. I believe the problem is with the recording of the actual movie on the disc and not the disc itself (since I can play the extras on the disc with no problem). Is Fox going to correct this problem, or am I relagated to just watching Prometheus on DVD only ???!!!!

MemberOvomorphOct-12-2012 2:05 PMI have a Sony 400 disc blu-ray player and it too has trouble loading the movie. Get a black screen for a long time - have to sit and wait it out and eventually loads. I think its the new DRM and also the live update crap. I noticed when I load the disc for the first time it took about 30 mins to get through the gracenote database to pull down disc information and a pic for the menu on the player.

MemberOvomorphOct-13-2012 1:50 AMHad the same problem. Disabled the bd-live on the ps3 and it played just fine. To do that, go to Video Settings and set the BD Internet Connection to 'confirm'. Unfortunately, you'll have to allow or deny each disk from that point on, so you'll probably want to set it back after you watch the movie.

MemberOvomorphOct-13-2012 3:53 AMI did turn off the internet connection for ps3 but still the same.
And the funny thing is, sometimes it work (fox intro, main menu) and most of the time..no, just stucked.

MemberNeomorphOct-13-2012 10:13 AMI too use my PS3 to play Blurays, and Prometheus is the only one that i've had problems with. When i first put the disc in, i was prompted to update, i updated and still couldn't access the film but after alot of messing about with the PS3 settings, it played, although the screen goes blank and it takes about 5 mins to load which is very annoying!
The poster was good though!

MemberOvomorphOct-13-2012 10:57 AMFinally manage to play the 3D disc on my ps3, here is what i did :
1. Turn off the internet connection for ps3
2. Delete off any existing BD data for prometheus on ps3
3. Play the disc
4. Stuck and waited on a blank/no signal screen for approx 11 minutes
5. Finally able to load into the menu and play the movie
And yes, its annoying for the long waiting time...not sure will there be any new firmware/updates to address this.
Good luck!

MemberOvomorphOct-15-2012 11:54 PMFor those who r still unable to play the discs, is your ps3 connecting to a AV receiver? If yes, try to skip the receiver, connect the ps3 hdmi straight to your tv input.
Its because i have two other 3d titles having the same issue, but when i try to connect the ps3 hdmi straight to tv..both run nicely. So im suspecting the AV receiver doesnt recognize some 3d signal/format/drm from the discs (unable to passthrough)
Hope it helps.

MemberOvomorphOct-19-2012 1:43 AMYeah I am having the same problems with my copy if not worse. I have not been able to see either the 3d disk or the 2d disk to load on the menu at all. I checked that I am up to date and have tried restarting with and without an internet connection and I can't even see the disk.
What more annoying is that you can go on the Playstation store and rent a HD copy of prometheus. They need to fix a software patch fast or start writing some rebate checks soon.

MemberOvomorphOct-19-2012 11:05 AMHey everyone having trouble playing the movie. I just got off the phone with Fox Connect, Fox' dvd service. The customer service rep said I need to clear the shared cache data.
On a playstation it is in the BD menu and then press triangle to open the sub menu and delete. Once I did that I had no problem playing the disc and it is playing fine. This should work for everyone having trouble with the movie.
I would say any other Blu Ray payer may have a simular shared data type folder. Delete that data and allow the disc to write a new one and you should be fine.

MemberOvomorphOct-20-2012 4:14 PMI have the same problem. Got 3 disk edition in russia. 2D disk doesn't work. got stuck right after fox into. I have Pioneer BDP-430, and directly connected LCD pannel. Latest firmware. No issues anytime before.
I really think fox has to do something about this defect. is this a way how company want to promote Blurays? What i have to do now - download for free from torrents to watch the movie and put blu ray to junk???

MemberOvomorphOct-23-2012 10:23 PMMy system for playing Prometheus twin x2 professional Dolby CP500 even thou I can run 7.1 I have to use the Yamaha RX-V650 fader to lower or raise volume equally on all-channels. I have an SDDS processor that will soon be wired up once I get a compatible pc with the older Windows XP to manage the software and audio alignment settings.
I have a few bluray players a Phillips BDP7300 with 6 channel RCA output as well a optical and (HDMI which isn't been used as yet).
My second bluray player is the Sony BDP-S550 and with both players it does take minutes for the player's to load the disc up for "play".

Yes that is CRT 28" and as my cat killed my Panasonic CRT 32" he likes biting cables and drooling maybe over the back of the CRT and may have shorted out the video input as its all messed up for video mode, not TV mode.
Also I have a project in the kitchen for 1080i 8 feet wide image if I wanted to use it, I thought I get that one clear.
A few weeks ago when I had it playing in the Sony player for dtsHDMA 7.1 playback though its RCA 8 channel to Yamaha RX-V650 8 channel input. About almost 40 mins to the film I started seeing pixels all over the screen and the odd thing was, the film was still playing as normally it would freeze up.
I gave the disc a clean and it was brand new and the thing is dust is everywhere it floats in the air and comes off clothing along with hairs and all sorts that can disrupt play.
I think its the BD-Live discs that take a century to load up. I would be happy if the studios dropped BD-Live so that if the film was stopped, the owner can restart the film and resume within seconds not minutes which is what it took me years ago to clean a projector in 5 mins or less I'd sooner do that than wait for bluray at snail-pace speed load up.
At least the player remembers the last scene and will resume if STOPPED and another film placed in and then place Prometheus back in it remembers! Not sure what the memory is on my players a 100 or so films?
I also run Laserdisc and that takes seconds to load up and play the film also multi-region DVD player mostly for region 1.
I'm also re-watching Prometheus right now at 04:20 hours chapter 18 has been on repeat for the past 20 mins with centre channel muted while listening to the reverb dialouge the sound effects of wind blowing all around and the ships bleeping sounds and faint static radio sound.
And I'm wondering myself? If Vickers is a robot. :D
