I've read many threads and post concerning the meaning of Promethus and I feel all were wrong when it came to the meaning why the so called engineer started killing the crew.
My opinion the engineer killed the crew because it thought Shaw was in danger after the getting hit with a gun. I don't think the engineers plan is to kill off the humans. In the beginning of the movie the engineers made the altimate scarfice and retuned to earth after that helping the humans.
Just my opinion of one scene

MemberOvomorphOct-14-2012 3:21 PMI think it was surprised to find them there. And offended by Weylands demands. I don't think the star maps were ever intended to be anything more than a " these are the stars where you were conceived" sort of thing. I do think they were on their way for to administer our final genetic upgrade.

generally agree with that
- could it be that the Jesus crucifixion thing is still a contender?
- maybe the final genetic upgrade was to make us more civilised (whatever that means?)
- and the infection accident stopped it
- and hence we end up in the state we are now
- no more civilised than we were 2000 years ago
