Yep...EXPLICITLY lol! On the blu ray. Scott's commentary. The exact quote is as follows...
"...he falls, and we don't know it yet but a door falls on his head. So there was a trap door in there, they went thru that emergency exit...what were they running from?"
So yeah, Scott pretty much puts that baby to bed.
Personally, I wasn't surprised that Scott mentioned a detail like that. The dvd is full of answers to little questions and problems that people have had with the film. As I've said before what's cool is that they answered all these questions before any of the general viewing public started bitching about them. And again, as I've said before, what's cooler than that is that all the answers they gave were the answers that sensible people deduced from the start.
Now, I'm sure there are some goofballs out there who may say "he was talking about the door that dropped on the engineers head." To that I will say that the door that dropped on the engineers head was clearly not a TRAP door.

This might sound wacky, but it reminds me of Hans Solo in Carbonite. Only in this case like something was trying to come through a liquid gateway and got frozen just before it entered.
Probably not. but it's Just my view.

@Batchpool ; Thanks for that comment, now I can just picture Jabba the Hut sliding out from behind it on his throne. XD
@Comacoz; It is possible but wouldn't the Pups have noticed it was a room and tried to scan it like they did the Engineer cryo room?

If you compare it to the original doorway they entered through I would say it's a one way digestive track

As Ridley said, the room did have a trap door that the engineers escaped from. But man, people are making a big deal about this for nothing. Is it really that significant if that is the trap door they escaped thru or not?

@engineering: Ridley scott explicitly stated that the ampule room had a trap door? interesting! I agree, ultimately its not that big of a deal. However, im just surprised that he mentioned a hypothetical detail like that. Cool.
Not that im questioning the truth value of your comment, but where could i reference this info? Is it on the blu ray? or is it from some random interview?
thanks for sharing.

@engineering: thanks for the clarification! I agree with basically everything you just said. The blu ray has been a real treat and filled with illuminating information. However, aside from a few nuggets, scott's commentary was pretty much exclusively devoted to the processes used to achieve the visual aesthetic of the film etc. (as it should be. he is the director so he discusses the construction of the film/image etc.). Because of this, i havent really used his commentary track as a major source for narrative referencing. Should have paid closer attention. lol. Very interesting comment.

I'm reminded of Salvador Dali's MAE WEST room:

but a 'trap door' to where?

@Lone, thank you sir
@Engineering, I started a threat specifically for people to talk about any mission info gathered from the special features on the blu-ray, is there anything else you'd like to share that could help shed light on some of the mysteries that is Prometheus? If so please post it in my other thread here Furious God: Making of Prometheus

I think it's just an alcove. I really wished it was a moving mural & the Xeno image appeared when they approached it.
Does any of the Blu-ray extras mention the kryptonite crystal & what it means?

I think it has a lot of significance and to me it looks like its a tomb of some kind, and the original in the trailers the Green Orb was instead the Sacrificial Bowl.
I had thought that the tomb may had contained some element of the Xeno Organism or its Progenitor and that the Engineers was using that temple to re-engineer the Xeno.
And thus behind that Mural could be some kind of plant that is used to break down the Xeno into the substance inside the Urns.
But the new Weyland Files clues well now make my theory not plausible and at the same time confuse things even more so.
