THE ENGINEERS AND CELLS

I think that the Engineers have very strong connections to Cellular life - one could even say that they worship these biological building blocks - for the many forms of organic life that they create over millions of years; a process they themselves have probably been born from. The emphasis on DNA and cells at the beginning of the movie could point to this. Furthermore, I think that Weyland's suggestion that him and the Pilot Engineer were deities offended the Pilot, and the revelation that David was a synthetic product not made from cells even more so. The pilot may have considered himself a vessel for the spreading of cellular life; a servant rather than a master. It has been said that the Pilot's caressing of David was a loving gesture - but the more I look at it, I think it is contemptuous. The Engineers face almost says, "Created in your own image? Please..." With this theory in mind, I would also suggest that the Engineers extermination of Earth could be a result of Human religious teachings. They appear with every massive Religious society and warn: "If you believe in Gods again, our soldiers will come from the stars to destroy you. You were created from our sacrifice; from the cellular building blocks of life. Do not test us anymore." This would probably have culminated in the torture and execution of "Jesus Christ" by the Romans, re-named this afterwards by their religious leaders, changing history for their own ends. It is likely Christ was an Engineer trying to teach a peaceful message. And so, with Humanities betrayal, the Engineers sent their extermination orders that were stopped short by a biological weapon spill on the planet where Prometheus is set. Lastly, it is likely that the Aliens are a biological weapon meant to gestate from the planet's native organisms and then destroy them; the Engineers last, most terrible judgment.
