MemberOvomorphOct-18-2012 1:57 AMJust want your opinions, maybe I'm wrong. Then again, if there's enough responses that agree with me, things just might be put in motion. I liked the soundtrack! But, if Paradise is as horrific as Scott says it might be, Reznor would be perfect!

MemberOvomorphOct-18-2012 2:24 AMI dont think anyone can ever be truly correct or incorrect when it comes to something as subjective as sonic expression (or any kind of artistic expression for that matter). having said that, i would not be the least bit excited about the prospect of trent reznor scoring (or working on in any way) the sequel.

Bioscope
MemberOvomorphOct-18-2012 7:00 AMI think Streitenfeld captured the Engineer sound perfectly, so if he finds a way to enhance it even further to take it to the next level in PARADISE, I can't wait to hear what he has in store for us. I do think that the LIFE theme we heard in PROMETHEUS may not work this time around.
Therefor, if it aint broke, don't fix it. I don't think Streitenfeld needs help from the rock world to augment his otherworldly colours.

The most terrifying fact about the universe is not that it is hostile but that it is indifferent

MemberOvomorphOct-18-2012 7:37 AMI second that, bioscope. Streitenfelds score was absolutely amazing, it gave such depth and wonder to the whole film. I loved it. And if anyone dares to call it cheesy and compares it with Star Trek again; believe me, I'll be there to kick their behind.
I have to say, that when I heard Reznor was making the score for The Social Network, I found it very interesting. But when I finally saw the film, I didn't like it one bit. I don't think it set the mood as it should have.. But that's just my opinion.

MemberOvomorphOct-18-2012 7:45 AMVV-it would be very interesting to hear what Trent would do for a film like Prometheus or Paradise, he's an outstanding and versatile artist. But I fall into the same camp as these fine people. I think Streitenfeld nailed it and I hope he's on board for paradise. His musical choices so enhanced the experience, the wonder, the doom, all in one marvelous stroke! I further believe he should reprise certain themes for continuity.

Custodian
MemberOvomorphOct-18-2012 10:18 AMdepends what sort of film Paradise is ... maybe the guy who wrote the theme for The Archers should be hired.
:)
2013 sci-fi horror novels 'Custodian' and 'Tandem' available from Amazon, B&N, iTunes etc...

MemberOvomorphOct-18-2012 1:49 PMI see alot of directors cuts, it would be nice if movies as great as this one had 2 or 3 versions where only the score would be totally different. Having said that, the gentleman who did the score should not be replaced! I would however love to hear someone like Ian Bellamy, trent reznor, or even the chemical brothers do a version. It all really depends on the desire of the artist, its a paycheck for some, others it would be a passion. As to reznor, big fan of his work...probably would do the sequels sound track but only for the paycheck.

MemberOvomorphOct-18-2012 3:22 PMAtticus Ross. He did Book of Eli and worked with Trent on Social Network and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
Or maybe John Murphy, he's worked several times with Danny Boyle, on 28 Days Later and Sunshine.

MemberOvomorphOct-18-2012 3:50 PMUnfortunately the post that said, I think the score was perfect, didn't get posted. I'm not with the group that says the soundtrack didn't work. However, hearing Ridley Scott say, "Paradise could be the most horrific place imaginable", made me think of Trent Reznor. I didn't like his score of the Social Network. I do like his score to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and more so, the intro to a video game he just finished. This thread was related to the comment Ridley Scott said and I think he'd do a damn good job if put to the task but only as an assistant.

MemberFacehuggerOct-18-2012 4:47 PMIf Trent Reznor is that good, how come it took Johnny Cash to come along to show him how is own material should be played ?
Sreitenfeld is the best person for the job because he will create something that is timeless, and without the need to add any musical motifs that are just out of sync with the whole production. I think Reznor has good ideas, but does not transcend across a wide audience. You need someone with a different kind of talent to do that IMO. As an assistant, possibly.

MemberFacehuggerOct-18-2012 5:18 PMWhy do people keep saying they want Trent Reznor for the sequel? I like some of the man's score work (The Social Network was well done), and I like his ambient material, but he'd have to make himself pretty unrecognizable for it to fit into the Prometheus universe. Check out a guy named Lustmord. He's done sound design for some films (his solo material is appropriately classified as "dark ambient.")

And some stuff along these lines would be cool, but I really think the sequel should maintain the same feel that Prometheus has. For continuity's sake. As far as the score goes, I think they should stick with more of the same style (but perhaps darker since the Engineers are supposed to be "violent f#ckers").

I should reach the frontier in about 6 weeks. With a little luck, the network will pick me up. This is Ripley, last survivor of the Nostromo....

I like the Lustmord stuff. It reminds me a little of the music score for The Abyss by Alan Silvestri.
@ Korpen
I Agree.

Um, I don't think so at all. I'm not sure Reznor can even still do the dark stuff that he used to do (like the old Quake soundtrack). He's been doing pseudo hip-hop stuff (which worked for the Saul Williams material, but it has seeped into his own stuff and it's baaaaad).
