If they chose the latter,,this could lead to many different storylines...Experienced space jockies and Ice Queen..that you just know had a backup plan for rescue,,,before the two years are up...
But getting back to reality,,unless you were a highly motivated hero,,willing to sacrifice your life for a cause,,why not choose the option with Vickers?

Vickers chose to accept a two year survivial..instead of joining Janek in the downfall of the Juggernaut..
Perhaps under extreme stress who knows what choices each one of us would make..
