MemberOvomorphOct-24-2012 12:22 PM Not having Blu-Ray player may be the reason but why is the overall picture so dark ,,to the point of losing significant plot points..?
Yea.. I expect caverns to be dark..but surely there is way to sell/tell the story in an enlightened manner.
This is true in the 'Big Head Room'..as the ampules,,streams of goo..and even the Big Head..are hard to figure out..
When using the computer playback the scenes show more detail...but why not increase the light level so all viewers..even the ones with outdated,,or just older equipment... to have a visually satisfying entertainment event.
Several times i had to flashback to the theater experence several months ago..to sort of fill in the darkened scenes..
I am not saying one couldn't follow the storyline,,but a brighter scene setting would help.

MemberOvomorphOct-24-2012 4:03 PMIt was digitally graded to be darker.
Since the process of making movies 3D darkens the film, they shot the movie on sets with brighter lighting.

MemberOvomorphOct-24-2012 4:15 PMAt a local Casino they had a Dark Knight slot machine,,that showed scenes from the movie..
And the scenes were much brighter highly detailed...and enjoyable,, and for me that would also work on a special Prometheus release.
I seem to recall a story that 3-D must have brighter lighting,,to allow the 3-D effect to be at it's best..

MemberOvomorphOct-24-2012 4:23 PMThe darkening is due to the polarization. When you make a movie in 3D, half of the frame has to be black and the frame after it has to be the other half black. This also means they have to present the movie at 4 times the frame rate.

MemberOvomorphOct-24-2012 5:58 PMThe 2D blu ray looks excellent (one of the best looking sources/transfers ive ever seen). I havent experienced an excessively dark image. having said that, i havent viewed the film in 3D (3D is a complete bastardization of the medium). The excessively dark image is an artifact of the 3D (see xenotron).
