MemberOvomorphOct-24-2012 7:22 PMSo I love Prometheus, it's a great film and I've watched it several times. But it is certainly a low-key sci fi mood piece.
The original Alien was SCARY, with a pregnant sense of visciousness.
throughout.
The Prometheus trailer gave me the vibe of, "this poor crew is on its way to LV(whatever) and is going to get FVCKED UP!!! They will get messed with in horrible ways by the evil aliens that made the alien". [Emphasis on 'aliens' not tall urdhu-speaking albinos]
We didn't get THAT film and I suspect perhaps we never will unless Pro-2 has a higher cert. rating.

MemberOvomorphOct-25-2012 7:19 AM I watched the International trailer and was bit shocked,,nut not because the movie didn't live up to the promise.,,
Although out of sequence ...it seemed like all of the scenes,,the great plotpoints ..situations,, visual effects(Juggernaut./Prometheus ramming) were all there. I mean it told the whole story in a disjointed way!
It's like reading the DVD box and find out the Titanic sinks..before the movie starts..
I am sure the Fox promo dept wants to use all of the cool scenes,,but at the expense of poor movie experience.for the paying viewers..seems loike a cruel trick.
Something like knowing how an amazing Magic Trick is performed,,before seeing the actual performance..

MemberOvomorphOct-25-2012 7:00 AMIt was the music in the trailer, man. The music! As I stated before, the international trailer is incredible.

I've watched it a few times myself and there were bits of the very first teaser trailer that I thought would scare the hell out of me when I finally saw it in cinemas. Like the scene where Shaw gets hit by the storm, originally I thought that was a scene of a spaceship tearing open and someone getting sucked out, helpless, into space. When Shaw (again) collapsed in the doorway of the medical room I originally thought that she was changing into something else, something gangly and horrible and Alien, it just seems a hell of a lot creepier, particularly with the music used for the trailer.
But no, what we got was "essentially a prequel" that at the end of the day isn't, they still can't make their minds up about that, yet refer to the original Alien SO MUCH in the Making Of, it's really starting to irk me a little.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. This would have made a GREAT film if it had never been attached to the Alien Universe.
And I fully agree with the tall albino speaking urdhu too. That isn't very Alien-esque at all in my mind. And that thing at the end? I thought Ridley said we wouldn't be seeing any "proto Xenos" *fuck I hate using that X word -_-* or "proto-facehuggers."
I won't be trusting him again to follow through on an already established story *Alien* not after seeing all the extras on the Blu Ray I was given *because I refused to pay again*

MemberOvomorphOct-24-2012 8:17 PM That's fine, but I like it. I truly like the direction it's going in and less familiarity with 'alien', all the better.....

MemberOvomorphOct-24-2012 9:17 PMFans of the xeno's and the horror/ action related to them were sadly disappointed, but I think they shouldn't worry because Ridley Scott probably wants to build up to those elements in the second or third installments of what he means to be a trilogy of prequels. The first film was meant to be subtle, and the backdrop was what he really meant establish with it. You really know who Shaw is now, and you get a sense of how far she is willing to go.

MemberOvomorphOct-24-2012 9:30 PMI agree the trailer had a different feel. That's advertising. The really delicious part for me was this insane film experience Ridley and co. provided, way beyond ordinary space horror, which I would have welcomed as well. But THIS, I've said it before, think of it as a cross fade from the Alien tradition to something far more daring, set in the universe we all know and love, rendered by the master himself! Merry Christmas indeed!

MemberOvomorphOct-24-2012 10:40 PMWell, going by Rotten Tomatoes, it has a 73%, so it gets a C-.
That sounds about right to me.
If this were my child, I'd sit down with him on his bed and show him his report card and tell him that I'm not angry, but I know he can do better if he just applies himself.
Now try harder.

I always try to inject a modicum of sardonic humor and subversive critique into each of my posts.
Well, I've already got a washer and dryer that does it for me, so I'll take the Mystery Box. Thanks.

MemberOvomorphOct-24-2012 11:18 PMmixZ- Agreed the sense of unease was almost constant, Prometheius is more if a psychological thriller with David as the villain, but, like Hannibal Lecter, one you root for. The duo of David and Shaw is brilliantly set up. My hope is that Prometheus is the lighting of the fuse. Paradise is the bomb.

MemberOvomorphOct-24-2012 11:42 PM THAT'S what I meant to say, it's not scariness, it's the UNEASE that was constant, thank you, Major Noob. That's exactly what it is. Some missteps on Ridley Scott's part:
1. The decision to retain Fifeld's human characteristic, out of consideration/fear that the audience/viewer might not make the connection. No. It would have been understood and would have been effectively intense, if not horrific, of the Fifeld being subsumed into a xenomorph being.

MemberOvomorphOct-25-2012 10:26 AMJohn Spaihts to British magazine Empire, who signed the first draft of the film, explains all the changes that Ridley Scott and Damon Lindelof taken, with a little push from studio executives, introducing the original approach. A littles preview concepts from Spaihts were refused by Scott y Lindelof, for example medpod scene, a little more bloody, more linked to Alien universe than Prometheus.

MemberOvomorphOct-27-2012 5:28 AMXenotron,
I was (re)watching that Honest Review and was thinking about the 'many unanswered questions' and then totally forgot that the next bit was STARRING...
Actually laughed out loud (!)
Also, as it's not an Alien-prequel, would Prometheus have really been as anticipatedly viewed to the tune of $500,000,000 (would it have been 'any good') if it was stripped of 'any' Giger influence or superfluous and misleading reference to a film made in 1979?
2013 sci-fi horror novels 'Custodian' and 'Tandem' available from Amazon, B&N, iTunes etc...

MemberOvomorphOct-31-2012 11:35 PMI only saw it to right after the computer surgery on the woman causey download messed up but
So far I have been surprised by the shock and gore it has. I thought i recalled Scott saying it would be not like this for the most part.
But i have liked it so far

MemberOvomorphNov-01-2012 5:27 AMFor me.after seeing the movie..and then the trailer,,,the movie is more of frama..suspense than it ios an action movie the preview proposed.
In that sense ot was a disappointment and confusion after the first viewing,,as were others in the crowd,,
