ALIEN bursting out at the end was silly.

Yes it seems some films today, or from a few years going back have silly endings that just kills the film or least with OVER hype of Prometheus it did. Yes we see Shaw and David living the planet and thinking it would fade to black and end credits but one more teaser that ended up looking like something from "The Muppet Show". That was hardly scary and it might have gotten a cheer from me to see the little ALIEN poking its head and then running off at least it would keep in with the continuity of ALIEN (1979) and ALIENS and ALIEN 3 and ALIEN 4. This was just a load crap at the end! It would have been better if the film had kept it with original planet and written the story as a failed mission (top secret company eyes only). Shaw and David blast off into space but the hyper space sleeping system breaks down and she dies or the ship computer breaks down or David breaks down and the ship wonders endless though space that at least would have been a better ending and then we can at least cut-to-the-chase without all the mumbo-jumbo of 3 or so more films that explain SQUAT! The way in which the ship crashed is good enough for me. and the homing beacon is the escape pod as in ALIEN they homed in on it and its not far from the ALIEN space ship a few hundred meters maybe but that is what they saw and then entered the ship. It would be better if the Engineer was suiting up in the space jockey outfit or whatever. Also it looks like Face-hugger got onto his face and next thing he bad day in with the ALIEN burst out and at the last moment he grabs the ALIEN and wounds it and it starts bleeding "acid for blood" which leaves hole and it falls down into the next level of the space ship and its Queen ALIEN and that fixes her wound and starts laying eggs at least that would be far better.

Yeah, that was very bad. It was just meant to be disgusting.

I didn't even jump once! I can watch ALIEN 1979 on Laserdisc NTSC region 1 DVD or maybe not the bluray the scope 2.35:1 on that is cropped and its more scary than Prometheus I have to watch the region 1 maybe many months later. I know its coming and it still scares me, seeing blood jetting out and spraying the dinning-room down to dripping blood everywhere. All we see at the end is engineers green like blood jetting up a few inches hardly scary and then a large Muppet dropping out. I mean why didn't he just put on top at hat and start singing at least that would have gotten a laugh at the end. I see this being the weakest ALIEN film for Ridley and his, only crowning achievement is ALIEN (1979).

You're right. In terms of horror, the whole film is not scary. What Shaw goes through is something, but the film's fear-factor is as alarming as the android's personality. I wonder if this was on purpose: to highlight the android in the whole film? Ridley Scott said his goal was to "scare the s... out of you", but I must assume he was only referring to his older work. I have hope that the sequel(s) will be more scary.

In the UK it gets a 15 rating so that they can draw in school kiddies for the afternoon shows for the sakes of 3-D, that is what this film, boils down to a 15 rating. I was told how scary ALIEN was in 1979 and thou I was 12 I wouldn't stand a chance getting in to see an "X" rated film well maybe sneaking in though the exit but I didn't bother. I saw it on VHS rental for £1.50 for two nights and watched it a few times while being scared by the mono then on the tv soundtrack at least the VCR had Dolby System to get rid of the hiss and hum. I hid behind the sofa when the ALIEN was coming and placed my hands over my ears that's how good ALIEN was. If I had seen in the cinema at the time of its release I would have bad nightmares and I found it tough to get to sleep after seeing it on VHS I had to leave the bed room light on, that's the affect ALIEN had on me. I did get to see ALIEN at the cinema in 1990 late night double bill ALIEN Dolby Mono and ALIENS 35mm Dolby Stereo, sadly ALIEN was < only in mono as the print was original of coarse with "X" rating but X now = "18". Seeing ALIEN for first time in scope was a big deal as all VHS versions and tv film showings where panned and scanned.

Here are a few clues for you: Alien was reclassified as a 15 movie the last time I saw it at the cinema. Prometheus is not a horror movie. Prometheus is not an Alien movie. If you want to hide behind a sofa like a 12-year-old kid, you need to watch a horror movie. Good luck in finding something that is genuinely scary these days. I haven't been scared at the cinema for decades.
The most terrifying fact about the universe is not that it is hostile but that it is indifferent

DEACON SCENE WAS SUPERFLUOUS, and pointlessly referential alongside all the other 'homage to Alien shots littering this non-Alien-prequel film. I'd have preferred answers to the Ganesha-truck driver carrying egg cargo - all of which this film ignored. And YES Ridley did market this film as a prequel (most of the time he was interviewed about it) by implication of 'hoping to answer' the bold'd questions. Would Prometheus have just come across as STARGATE REVISITED, had he just released this film WITHOUT the Alien-esque or at least Giger-esque references all over the design? Would the 'story' have been enough?

I must disagree. I don't find it to be an absurd scene, because it explains what happened to the other chest bursted engineers that Fifield and Mylburn found. The only aspect I would modify is the size of the deacon and the trilobite, personally I found them to be to big...

And having ALIEN watered down from 18 to 15 is to cash in on the kiddies! sigh

I think the creature in ALIEN with face huger thing like attached to the face and hole where it busted out? I think these cargo ALIENS where fighting another ALIEN clan and came in possession with these ALIENS egg thiny's that they where going to unleash on the other ALIEN clan but one got out and attacked the crew ALIEN Jockey and the ship was about to crash and he sent out a distress May-Day signal. Ship crashes! Or Maybe this! The ALIEN egg thingy, didn't get out until the ship crashed. Maybe the ship was attacked by one of the ALIEN clan thingy's and the ship crashed and as for the hole in the ground that happened from within the Jockey chamber room? So...Okay once the ship was attacked it rocked around a bit while Jockey tried to keep control and in the storage chamber one of the eggs toppled over and the Face-Hugger crawled out and crawled up the wall into vent and then next thing you know! Eeeeeeeeeeeee! It leaps onto Jockey's face implants the "ALIEN" he then wakes up hours later after the ship has crashed and next ALIEN CHEST BUSTER! He then fights with it while bleeding and wounds the Babe ALIEN which struggles off bleeding "acid for blood" burns hole into the floor and drops down into chamber...

Prometheus ending scenes was very short, and the intensity is spreading in a short time, and best of Alien was the end, I do not know what might happen, a) bad script concepts, b) Engineer reaction, c) illogical and comical ending. Blunder.

You know what I see happening in a few years...? ALIEN 1979 being remade sigh.
