After watching 'The Furious Gods' , it's clear that the production of Promethues was quite confused and often influenced by the previous alien movies. However, I suspect there a lot more references going on, some of the more obvious ones: Lawrence of Arabia (Straightforward References in the movie) Starwars - Jedi Robes & Droid ship design. Mission to Mars - Star Room, Pre-visitation & cells dividing scene. Contact - Shaw's character, father reference, dreams

Lawrence of Arabia: Yes, David's favourite movie. Star Wars: No. Robes pre-date Hollywood (by 500 million years at least ha ha). Superficial and coincidental resemblance of a small part of the ship with a small part of a robot in an old film. Mission to Mars: No. If anything, Mission to Mars pinched the dome concept from original Alien artwork. The concept of a star map is not exactly original. The actual execution in Prometheus is, of course, exemplary. Contact: No. Doesn't every female scientist have a father? Whilst there were some scenes filmed of Shaw looking for a benefactor (a la Arroway/Haddon), they didn't make it into the release.
The most terrifying fact about the universe is not that it is hostile but that it is indifferent

Confused, says the OP. Hmm...I have learned there is a method to the madness. From chaos arrives creativity, my friend.

@the wanderer: good gracious! you have no clue what you are talking about do you? You watched furious gods and deduced that the production was confused?? The process of constructing any film borders on utter chaos. Your "references" are flimsy as f*&k (+1@ zzplural on that one). jedi robes...wow.

@the wanderer. They all borrow concepts from each other, was what Ridley said so maybe. The black stuff is another one, that was "borrowed" from X Files the movie and X Files borrowed from ALIEN with the alien gestating inside a human host.

The poster was good though!

I am ok with all of the references yiou cite,,The Wanderer ...if the pieces sort of fit into a worthwhile experience... They give the audience a frame of reference,, Truky original Science Fiction stories,,to me are in the Fantasy part of Sci-Fi...but really would have a more limited market.. Ridley had the ability viosion to include several refeneces that the audience recognozed and many cases loved.. I enoyed the music references,,,

Jeesh Joey, I watched Furious Gods and listened to the various people involved explaining the development of the film and the different elements involved including radical changes to plot well after a lot of production had actually been finished, why that should be surprising to you saus more about you than me.

necronom 4 › agreed, lots of borrowed concepts, that's what furious gods basically confirmed, Ridley himself talks about it how every Scifi shares characteristics.

@the wanderer: the furious gods delves deeply into the construction of prometheus...much more so than most documentaries. The viewer gets to see/hear about processes that are generally not discussed in the superficial documentaries that typically get released (even still...this documentary presents the process as cleaner than it really is). Im just saying...i was involved in post-audio for years (small indie film stuff). I was around the process long enough to know that the creation of a film (at any level) is an exercise in organized chaos. The changes that are often made in post production are numerous! (even in indie/student films). Believe me! as sound designers, we were constantly anticipating picture-lock. lol. the picture isnt "locked" until time and/or money runs out. thats just the way it goes. Sorry if i was a jerk earlier, but the furious gods doesnt paint the construction of prometheus as confused in the least (or any more confused than any other massive cinematic undertaking).
