ive tried to translate the writing on the wall where all the giant bodies are piled up but it just seems like a load of gibberish unless ive missed some thing. oh well heres the Engineer alphabet off the extras disk if any one else would like to have a go.

MemberOvomorphOct-31-2012 8:12 PMWell done for trying to work it out a true fan!But I reckon it's made up and not any particular launguage unless your a synthetic like David who can translate anything.lol but if you do work it out and it does mean something it would be interesting to know.

MemberOvomorphOct-31-2012 8:22 PMOf course they would have 26 characters to make it even more ambiguous! Is this right though? I need to see if anything is actually spelled out?? I was thinking the characters were more symbolic and it was some form of combination of pictographic syllabic-scripts.
Excellent job if it is some form of consonantal + vowel structured language, giving the morphemes, syllables and words a different structure than ideas combined in the pictograms would.
When the Phoenicians passed on their alphabet it already had the 21 consonant sounds found in English plus an extra character. This would show that when the Engineers left the older cultures traces of their language, their language already had the 26 characters we use to represent pieces of sounds in the final form of that alphabet (for David to be able to reconstruct it easier). The Phoenician alphabet forms much of the basis for our modern alphabet, but over time vowel combination and the expression of more sounds became possible to be expressed by the extra characters added in by cultures like the Romans.

MemberFacehuggerNov-01-2012 11:33 AM@Katiel238 - So what did you think the dead Engineer wall said?

MemberOvomorphNov-01-2012 4:09 PMso far ive translated a series of random letters so its either a series of random letters put there too look good or theres more to translating the code then matching the symbols to the letters.

MemberOvomorphNov-01-2012 4:14 PMI don't know, I have a feeling the text on mural was purely for the aesthetics - just a bunch of pretty jibberish.

katiel238
MemberOvomorphNov-01-2012 4:20 PMthen if it is just a bunch of jibberish why give us the decoded alphabet in the first place. maybe the art department know what it all means but have deliberatly garbled the text to stop us translating it.

MemberOvomorphNov-01-2012 4:29 PMyou could be right! but what is the key? have you tried rearranging the words, or maybe the words are anagrams, or the letters have been replaced with the ones next to them, for example CAT would be DBU.

katiel238
MemberOvomorphNov-02-2012 12:26 PMyour on to something the translated letters on the first line are siopdahc using your method i put this into a search engine scaphoid... and this poped up a hidden clue or coincidence? it looks like they are anagrams.

MemberNeomorphNov-02-2012 12:52 PM@katiel238, now this is a great thread! I tried deciphering the writing on the doors using the alphabet you provided, but it turned out to be complete nonsense. How did you get "siopdahc"?
To me, it seems that some of the characters are the same as in your alphabet, but some are upside down and there are some characters that are not in your alphabet? This really baffles my monkey brain! Please keep it up mate, i've got a feeling that there will be more than just clues on them doors.
The poster was good though!

MemberOvomorphNov-02-2012 1:16 PM@Katiel238, if you're correct - there is no way thats a coincidence, it's a big fat clue. Do you have a screen grab of that wall? I'll give it a go and I'll share my findings, if I find anything that is!

MemberOvomorphNov-02-2012 2:04 PMthis is how i worked out the random words :
line one in its raw translation is dgy rrhnocb gdcgqo if we replace the letters with the ones next to it the first line becomes ehz ssiopdc hedhup. scaphoid a reference to coded alphabets or psocids a reference to insects. the word is hidden within the garbled letters like playing scrabble line one = he psocids dupe or he scaphod dupe. are the xenos insect based life forms by any chance because this wall is either a warning about inteligent insects or about the reader being fooled by the code. i'll continue to translate the rest.
some of the symbols do not match the alphabet or appear to be upside down or revesed i used the symbol that is the nearest match. this seems too have been done deliberatly to decieve anyone trying to translate it.
here is the picture engineer wall the text just explains how the alphabet was made up of a combination of ancient persian and pre sumerian middle eastern langauge also in the art book Arthur Max explains 'we looked at many (dead langauges) and tried to evolve something that was going to be graphically visual and yet at the same time undecipherable by anyone who made a study of languages'

MemberOvomorphNov-14-2012 12:36 PMkatiel238,
If they said the text was evolved to be visually appealing but undecipherable then no attempts will work because by their own admission it is nonsense.
