MemberOvomorphNov-04-2012 1:55 AMWhen David opens the capsule to get the black liquid to infect Holloway he had to break glass. Does anyone else think this is a little bizarre? Space Jockeys making glass? Why would they use it? They seem to have different ways than us( like how they open doors or using flutes to fly ships). They don't even use it to see out of their ships. Plus how do they make it? Same as us or different?

MemberOvomorphNov-04-2012 2:16 AMYou should really think questions through properly before asking them as you just come off sounding like a complete tool, and here's why:
Do you REALLY think the thought of them creating glass is that far fetched considering they fly around in organic/tech ships that are way beyind anything we (humans) are close to constructing, which contains a fully interactive orrery and a chair that attaches a suit with breathing apparatus to you?
Think! I see you posting a lot of silly-arse questions that a half-retarded three yr old could probably answer. Come on now...

MemberOvomorphNov-04-2012 2:30 AMIf anyone is a tool its you. I asked why they would need glass and maybe how they made it. They don't seem to use normal technology(like a flute to start their ship) And why are you watching my posts and how do they seem childish?

MemberOvomorphNov-04-2012 3:31 AMGive Space-Jockey a break. He asked a reasonable question.
They likely used glass because its ingredients (silicon and oxygen) are super-abundant. At least on Earth and likely elsewhere. Also, it is extremely non-reactive. That's one reason you see it used a lot in chemistry labs. Goo-proof.
What interests me is why it is the shape that it is. It looks rather beautiful to me and somewhat organic itself. Maybe the urn contents — including the containing vessel — are grown in some way. We have no idea exactly how, but the mind boggles at the possibilities. Maybe they get laid like eggs from a big fat shiny grey spider.

@Space-Jockey, I concur with what zzplural said. Those beautiful 'vessels' do appear organic & are probably the product of another as yet unseen creature. The urns which contain the vessels, could be an Engineer invention to keep them stable.

MemberOvomorphNov-04-2012 9:00 AMThe green color of the glass is connected with various scenes in the Pyramid,,,
I don't think this is by accident..but trail (left by RS) giving clues to the unseen Engineer/Creator.
As far as the glass its self there is another thread concerning the glass breaking, releasing the contents to mix with the surrounding liquid. in the urn..activating a Xeno developing goo.
I also thought it an awkward moment when David actually breaks the glass and places a drop on his Weyland embossed fingertip.
What..no screw off lid like the top of the Urn?

MemberOvomorphNov-04-2012 9:47 AMContinuous unbroken glass provides a perfect seal. From my dim & distant chemistry lessons, I believe it's not unusual to heat/stretch glass to seal in something.
Out of interest, why do you think this was an awkward moment? I thought it was rather effective. In fact, the close-up of David's artificial finger, complete with logo, and the small drop of goo complete with its sparkly dynamic interior was a moment of brilliance in my opinion.

MemberOvomorphNov-04-2012 10:05 AMI replayed the glass breaking scene and i see I was wrong and you were right. The poiny vial end was up when David first looks at it. Then he truns it upside down(pointy end down) and the black stuff starts to fall downward.
In the next scen he breaks off the vials' top..and this was my viewing mistake...I thought it was the flat end,, In viewing the scene again David had already flipped the pointy end upright and snaps the top off,
My mind did not realize it was the pointy end was openned.
Awkward was a bad word choice in this case.
The fingertip goo was an excellent scene . My awkward comment only referred to the openning of the bottle,,not the other facets of this storyline.
David's Weyland fingertip was nice visual touch.(no pun intended)

MemberOvomorphNov-04-2012 2:00 PMgood point Space Jockey, glass is probably the best way to store the black goo, also did you note the artistic handpiece at the end of those grouped glass pieces that David was holding onto as he pulled the tubes out, it appears really ancient w/symbols......
@ADH09839834L0SER983002322 or whatever, why do slam everybody on this site......?, anybody acting like a child is you...... what a troll... perhaps one of the admin will kick you off this site, I know if I was an admin, I'd be giving your notice...... oh's that sounds negative..?, sorry ADH09839834L0SER983002322

MemberOvomorphNov-04-2012 3:50 PMits not a bad question scientifically, but i feel like the alien universe is a little to light on science fiction to take stuff like that seriously. this isn't star trek lol its made out of glass and looks like that because the concept artists and prop builders thought it looked cool. and it does look cool lol also i am not trying to be a dick like ADH0983, i am just saying this isn't really the kind of movie to ask those kinds of questions.

MemberDeaconNov-05-2012 12:03 PMWell we did not know if this is not a Glass but a kind of membrane made of some other substance that can degrade and break down under certain circumstances.
Maybe it appeared more Glass like because David froze the Urn and then stored it in a Fridge or Freezer.
You see a Egg is a very fragile container for the insides, but have you ever frozen a Chicken Egg? Then broke the Shell off?
What you get is a almost Glass like construction and while a Egg wont break a Window a Frozen one would even the inside once frozen is as hard as a stone.
My point being that maybe once thawed the Glass well may not be so Glass like.

Yes this storage unit is of interest because it is is a lab,,in full view of anyone that might wonder by,
The other containers stored in the 'freezer' seemed like everyday items the Promewtheus crew might use,,
Though it could have been in David's private lab,,it seemed like the urn's display top shelf..not hidden ..seemed like a nod to those fans who like to see storyline hint,,placed in an obvious place,,seen by no one.

MemberOvomorphNov-05-2012 4:36 PM@BigDave:
The interior of the urn was merely cool, not frozen. A load of gloopy mess wobbles about when David withdraws the vials.

THis line of thinking makes an interesting way of looking at the Big Head room and the eventual oozing of the goo.
It follows that David also had a similar thought..and stored it in the freezer.before testing it..
It is curious that David elected to participation in the experimentation on the Engineer's head before he uncorked the vial with the goo. Possibly he was obligated to assist Shaw.
I reviewed the scene where David opens the Giant Head/Urn room and found he walked right past the decapitated head,,seemingly with no interest..to get a closer look at the Giant Head Sculpture or Urns.
To me it seemed David already had some Engineer knowlege,,,and wanted to learn more about the artifacts in this room.
