MemberOvomorphNov-07-2012 7:37 AM Weyland is hearing from Shaw details and events that happenned while he was asleep. She gave him this information because she could see that things were not what was expected when the trip commenced
What I thought was of interest was Weyland's reaction to Shaw's info. He took it in and immediatly asked what would Charlie do.
There was no delay.
There was no additional questions about the events that have transpired in our movie.
Even for an old guy he didn't react even though(seemingly) she is saying his dream of immortality cannot or shouldn't be reached,
No, Weyland didn't miss a step and like he knew all of these things all along,,though he had just been taken from the sleep chamber..
As a leader of such a vast Corporation he is used to in complete knowledge of not only the facts but alternatives to just about any situation. His actions demostrate what is on his mind, his goals and in this case despite what Shaw is telling him..he was going to meet his maker.
What Shaw percieves as being threat is a reason for going home now. Weyland just wanted to make the trip to the Juggernaut, meet the Last Engineer, and cheat death.
I just thought it was a pivotal scene in a complex movie..especially as Weyland is now in the lead of advancing the storyline.
One last observation, When Shaw mentions that Holloway is dead,,she glances to David as she knew that David killed him.
David has just glanced back at Shaw wondering what she might say to Weyland.
There is more to the scene meets the eye ..at least on the first viewing.

In the resuscitation scene, Shaw does not actually give Weyland any information at all about what happened during his sleep, other than the fact that Holloway is dead. He's been well briefed already.
Yes, she certainly suspects David had a hand in Holloway's death, and he is in the rather uncomfortable position of not knowing how she will air her views. He's also uncomfortable when Shaw asks Weyland why he is on the ship, and he's wondering how much Weyland will give away.
There's good direction here, full of little details that a popcorn-muncher would not really appreciate.

Yes indeed. Between them, David and Weyland make it very plain to Shaw that they know how Holloway died, and they don't care that she knows they know.
The most terrifying fact about the universe is not that it is hostile but that it is indifferent

MemberOvomorphNov-07-2012 12:01 PMWeyland is so well briefed that he almost dismisses any info that Shaw wants,,or feels she needs to share .with him.
This has to be crushing to her since Weyland wanted her along as a 'true believer'.
As zzplural has pointed out,,she didn't mention much more than Holloway was dead. When I viewed the scene all that has transpired, that seemed important to us and should have been to Weyland , came to mind. It didn't but even my little brain couldn't figure out at that time why it was not important..
Weyland not only created this playing field,,but was going to see the Engineer to score the touchdown,Immortality, no matter who he has to dismiss..or use to accomplish this.
He really was a selfish bastard. Vickers is portayed that way. Why wouldn't something of this selfishness be passed on to David..in some way?

MemberOvomorphNov-07-2012 9:17 PMDavid is such a pickle to work out. You see how happy he is tending to the needs of his creator by washing his feet, then in another scene he asks Shaw, "doesn't everyone want their parents dead?".
Then don't forget his indifference to seeing an engineer's head explode and saying, "mortal afterall". I'm sure there was no deeper meaning intended here, but I find it ironic, not only that having David talk to an engineer later in the movie would be considered offensive, but the question he asks is on behalf of a man who has stressed that David "will never die".
Essentially, Weyland has created (what he considers) an immortal to ask a mortal how to make himself immortal. Crazy, right? And the engineer ripping off David's head is almost karma not just for Weyland's arrogance but David's as well (you ain't immortal either, boy!).
As for Shaw and Weyland, don't forget that David was indeed contacting Weyland in his dreamstate and mentioned something about being premature (I assume he was talking about the urn he stole). This happens before Vickers confronts David in the hallway. So not only is Weyland a selfish bastard, but he may have planned what happened to Holloway, too.
Of course he's not going to tell Shaw, though.
