MemberOvomorphNov-24-2012 11:21 PMI have spotted one production Link between Alien and Prometheus, also one other "industrial" observation,
Alien - Prometheus Link:
In Alien, when Dallas is in the air ducts on his fateful hunt, take a look at the sides of the duct. You will notice steel embossed plates wth holes in their corners. These are, in fact, plate heat exchanger plates. They are used to give the industrial look to the Nostromo's ducts. I know about PHE because I used to make gaskets for them. Now, lets move on to Prometheus and the scene of carnage after the Juggernaut has crashed and come to rest. As our heroine, Shaw, walks to find the lifeboat you see in the foreground a PHE plate! Now, did the Prometheus set design crew know this or did they have access to previously used Alien paraphenalia?
Industrial Observation:
In Prometheus, during the Fifield fight scene: when the vehicle is being reveresed to "squish" Fifield, the tyres of the vehcle are clearly marked "Trelleborg". This is the name of one of the largest tractor tyre manufacturers in the world and is a real company! It is the only real world company I think I can remember in the whole film.
I am not sure if any one will find these observations interesting but for me they add a little more to our knowledge about the film.

MemberOvomorphNov-25-2012 1:20 AMWell spotted, Regular Parrot. I didnt't notice the heat exchanger myself - a couple of screen grabs might help. I know that for the industrial look of Alien, the production team raided an old aircraft junkyard. Do you get heat exchangers on planes, perchance?
The close-up shot of the tyres is most fleeting. Again, we'll done for spotting that.
The vehicle appears to be modelled on a real Soviet Troop Transporter. I'm not surprised that they used a Scandinavian firm to find the tyres. When I was in Iceland a while back, I saw an absolutely awesome vehicle being used to ferry tourists around the highlands. It was a similar design, but probably twice as high, and higher off the ground. A magnificent sight - I'm sorry I didn't have my camera at the time.
The most terrifying fact about the universe is not that it is hostile but that it is indifferent

MemberOvomorphNov-25-2012 2:46 AMThanks. PHE are more likely to be found on Ships. They are not used in aircraft. The size of those that they used were not particularly big, typically they are used in chemical plants, food preparation (juices), power stations, marine etc.
I think the vehicle used is particularly impressive.

THis is a great observation. THe time setting of our adventure is not too far in the future and even in a globalizing worlfd you would think that some of the latgest manufacturing companies would survive and leave their mark on any space exploration.
It would ahve been kinda nice after a long space trip to drive the rover through a McDonald's drive thru and order up.
