MemberOvomorphDecember 17, 2012Just started this at the weekend. I'll be back with sizes tonight or tommorow and more pics at the end of the week. I think I may do two versions from this: an opening one revealing the Engineer's head and also this whole head as a finished piece in itself.

THis is a good idea. Good luck on your work.
I was hoping for a hollow version to see your head looking though the engineer's mask.

Wow ,,,,is is hollow inside
would be great to run around the house with it on
Looks great .

Yes I bet it could be used in 'Prometheus, The Musical'.

Very cool Zeta R! Just think you are following in the footsteps of the great man himself HR Giger. Remember him carving away on the set of Alien? That would be great if you could make a hollow one that fit over an Engineers head and comes apart. It would be challenging though to make it stay supported while it dried and during firing in the kiln....

Thanks again for your comments everyone.
@NCC and Indy: er - it's a tad tiny to wear and run around the house
or a West End theatre with I'm afraid - check the dimensions above - purely
ornamental purposes only, lol.
@nostromo001 - thanks a lot, I'll never aspire to the great Giger by any stretch.
As I've mentioned in my first post, I may be making a second moulding of this where it will split to reveal the Engie head inside like the film.
Not 100% decided on that yet though.

It's still in progress everyone, so it looks scruffy at the moment.
I'll post more pics towards the weekend. Stay tuned.

".., I may be making a second moulding of this where it will split ."
When finished both could make nice display items.
Speaking of the split did anyone find that David too easily found the snout catch to raise up and then lift off the mask?

I guess I just chalked it up to his higher IQ. He looked at the x ray first perhaps and that guided him - but I am speculating here. I did notice how he went right to it and opened it up as if he had practiced it for days.

I always thought it just wasn't locked - just a catch holding it down. More than likely its probably down to them not wanting him fiddling about wasting precious film time :S ...ah yes nice sculpture as well!

@Indy John - 'Speaking of the split did anyone find that David too easily found the snout catch to raise up and then lift off the mask?'
Yes - I got a whiff of "here's one I prepared earlier" lol. It should've been
a slow, more visceral reveal. It looked a bit like - er - Hot Toys.......
