MemberOvomorphJan-07-2013 2:59 PMIn a recent viewing as i saw David spike the drink I sort of wonder if the goo was aslo an aphrodisiac.
Certainly Holloway sobered up enough to approach Shaw and try to get on her good side.
I am in the minority that She should ha ve said 'no' to his advances.
If the aphrodisiac was strong enough to cause Holloway to seek relief he still had some options on the Prometheus. David may not have cared who was involved with Charlie,,he just wanted to see if there would be scientific results to studdy and lean from.
I see Vickers/Ford as possible candidates. Vickers would be a better choice because of her Weyland connection but I would suspect harder to convince that she should join him so to speak.
Ford has a scientific mind and, quite frankly, doesn't seem the sort to have many male friends for companionship. She might be a possiblity.
Come to think of it Janek was sort of drinking throughout the 'Love The One You're With' scenes. It would have been a chance to conduct a second test of 'goo effect'.
If any of the above cases would a have happenned the end results might have been the same..but the various scenes leading up to the finale might be quite different.results

MemberOvomorphJan-07-2013 4:13 PMI wouldn't need an aphrodisiac to jump Vickers! Ford, on the other hand...
My first thought was that surely the goo is clever enough already, without adding this complication. But, hey, why not. Fifield acts like he's got rabies, so Holloway could get some urges too.

MemberOvomorphJan-07-2013 5:03 PMThere's a foreshadowing of this event when Shaw and Holloway talk to Vickers in the escape pod and David makes the drinks.
When Holloway takes the drink he looks at it while he is picking it up - just like anyone would do - before looking back at David. He's also laughing just like he does in the goo-in-drink event except in the goo event, it's much more nervous laugh and he's very fidgety.
There's no way he could have missed seeing David's finger in his drink. And why would David take the huge risk of being spotted?
Holloway is sacrificing himself for the cause.

During the viewing of the movie my sion spotted right away. And it did seem quite odd how David ahd to hold this finger with the goo for an extended(no pun intended) period of time. Even to point where it becomes quite obvious that the extended finger was unnatural.
I mean if we could see it Hollloway being much closer could have easily seen the dipping finger and perhaps even the goo.
BTW who is to say that the goo would immedietly discover into the drink? It looked like oil to me which would not have easily mixed.
I know that david must have checked it out,,,but how convienient to soluable in the drink.
And again what happeneed to the rest of the goo not used but found in the urn.
These are smal details that sort of bug movie goers.
I did like you explanation as to how Holloway was awilling participant in this experiment.
But would charlie be as willing to create life in Shaw and even foresee the amount of termoil a new life would case?
Did he take part of the experiment because he loved Shaw?
Hmm

MemberOvomorphJan-08-2013 12:05 AMHolloway didn't notice his drink being spiked because he was drunk. He'd already finished off one bottle of bubbly, which was up-ended in one of the pool table pockets.

MemberOvomorphJan-08-2013 4:28 AMWhen the anything and everything statement is made Holloway may indeed be drunk. In answering david's question he says it so forcefulkly like he was committed to this bold statement.
The problem to this point is that Charlie had not been doing anything and everything. HE if anything not being a scientist by drinking in the operating room while the most important find to date was being anlyized by his girlfriend. Judging by her look as Charlie as left the room with bottle in hand I do feel she felt deserted.
If Shaw sked do you think Charlie did anything and everything up to thios point in the story?
Does the audience?
Perhaps in David seemingly having to answer a robot questioning him about commitment sobered him up to make such a decalitive statement.
Shaw: Anything and everything-Yes
David: Anything and Everything-Yes
Weyland:Anything and Everything-Yes
Janek: Anything and Everything -Cautiously Yes
Ford-Anything and everything-Yes(with direction)
Charlie:Anything and Everything-No , well at least not yet.
If Charlie was the least observant he might have even see the secretive nature of David and spot te smuggled urn/goo back on the ship...but even that might be asking too much from Charlie at this point of the story.

MemberOvomorphJan-08-2013 8:03 PMObviously it's not "absolutely 100 percent clear" whether Holloway saw David dip his finger in his drink or not since Ridley hid that from us. And arguments from incredulity are hardly scientific. I don't think there's anything wrong with keeping an open mind on events that the director himself kept open.
Besides, this is a science fiction movie with robots and aliens in it. Who can say with certainty that Holloway is human?

MemberOvomorphJan-08-2013 11:10 PM".. Holloway is human?.."
His charactor is eliminated 2/3 way in our movie.
Could Holloway be more than human but not related to the robotic'/android lifestyle?
All this speculation is maddening.
