You saw a rock.
The most terrifying fact about the universe is not that it is hostile but that it is indifferent

although the reference in question is a rock, it is important to note that an alien egg is depicted in one of the ceiling frescos (in the head room). nice little kernel of info provided by the filmmakers.

And the questions still abound about the pile of Engineer bodies, at least in my mind. Why are they piled up? How did they get there? How old? Where are they piled up? Are there other piles of Engineers? What Killed them?

@Indy John "Why are they piled up? what killed them?" my first reaction is that in reaction to a quarantine lockdown situation they panicked and tried to get to their designated quarters before they found themselves locked out which it seems they did and died of the infection (heads exploded/ holes in helmets) curiously and i'd need to double check this but there seemed to be holes in various parts of the armour maybe they were attacked by hammerpedes too! i know this when my worms are starved they do an unusual thing they change into "Dauer larva" a thinner less defined form in which they can survive for twenty times their normal lifespan albeit slow moving and not doing much but not a full hibernation either maybe the worms there were mutating for the first time or maybe not is what i'm saying
