Yep. As far as im concerned, 2014 is an absolute impossibility. 2015 seems unlikely as well. I agree with you...2016/2017 seems most likely. In fact, i think thats pretty much the window of opportunity right there. If the sequel is not made and released by 2017, i dont think we will be getting one at all (at least for a very long time). im hopeful that we might get some sort of update in the next six months (writer(s)/script info).

i can see 2015, but they have to begin that planning now because i know Sir ridley will be pretty busy the next few years and Michael Fassbender has been busy this year so there is a good chance that he won't be available all the time in the next few years and for our sake(on this site) tthat would be a little too long lol:)

If 2016/2017 were the years, I think we will spend a long time without updates...rumors maybe but official news?...or the terrifying possibility that never happens.

unless the film is directed by someone else. I know that many of you hate the idea of a sequel without Ridley, but IMO Scott is not the only good director today.

What if James Cameron took over for a squel just like the old days when he made Aliens and it did pretty well in theaters. He introduced us to the Queen and the Colonial Marines. I want to see way more Space Jockey's and a little bit more about the Deacon alien creature. If he can have success with Avatar than he could make a good Prometheus sequel titled Paradise.
The Anunnaki were on the earth in those days--and also afterward--when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, mighty men of high reno

i would be ok(somewhat) with a new director and james cameron being that director is ok as well but i don't want another aliens. i want paradise go the path ridley intended. maybe a a different director could inject a few iideas or new life into it, but i want paradise to maintain it's course

nooooo not james cameron he'd give us daft gung-ho space marines! i liked that prometheus took a different more cerebral direction any dumbing down to acheive mainstream popularity would kill it for me i want answers to some of the questions raised in prometheus but not stupid ones.... and i honestly dont give a fishes mammary gland what went down on lv426 or why the eggs were there or if the space jockey isnt the same size or isnt elephantine or that theres no conventional xeeno/facehugger action!
I LIKE WORMS! I LOVE WORMS!

Yeah...look how long it took for another Alien film...i highly doubt Paradise will be released in the next three-four years, even though I would love this. I would also enjoy the idea that Cameron would direct the sequel, but I prefer Scott to continue the journey he intended us all to take. And only Scott knows exactly what he wants to do. We just have to wait lol. In the mean time, get Colonial Marines, Dead Space 3, and focus on the new movies coming to screens in the next year or so.
We aint outta here in ten minutes, we wont need no rocket to fly through space.

thank goodness we have the whole scifi network to keep us busy:)

dont like avatar. I would not be pleased with james cameron filling in for ridley. It wont happen anyway; cameron is busy with his little blue characters.
Like others have said, its Scott's, fassbender's, and rapace's schedules that are the real problem. None of them have much free time over the next couple of years. If scheduling wasnt the issue that it is, i believe we would have our film in the next 2 years. Ridley seemed pumped to tell his tale and fox seemed ready to back it. I really want a sequel....
January 31, 2013
the minute we see pap photos of fassbender hiding under a hat (his hair anyway) well know filming has begun!

I'm not jumping to any conclusions yet based on 2 things...
1) Scott's last comments I read suggest that immediately after 'The Counselor' (which post-production is almost complete, if not already; it's release is November 15 of this year), he'd work on 'Prometheus 2', then 'Blade Runner 2'. (he also owns the rights to 'The Forever War' which he's wanted to turn into a film for over 25 years, so I'm not sure where that fits in exactly).
2) From The Hollywood Reporter...
Fox confirms to THR that Scott and the studio actively are pushing ahead with a follow-up (stars Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace are signed) and are talking to new writers because Prometheus co-scribe Damon Lindelof might not be available. "Ridley is incredibly excited about the movie, but we have to get it right. We can't rush it," says Fox president of production Emma Watts, who also has overseen the successful reboots of the X-Men and Planet of the Apes franchises. A Prometheus sequel would be released in 2014 or 2015.
I'm hopeful that Fox would not go back on this and end up with "egg on their face". And besides, in spite of (heck, maybe even because of) the divisiveness in response to 'Prometheus', a sequel should yield a healthy paycheck for the studio, and they're not ones to back away from dollar signs.

Actually I was thinking in someone like Neill Blomkamp, Christopher Nolan, Duncan Jones or J.J Abrams maybe...but most likely be Ridley and obviously that's great.
February 01, 2013
btw the problems of Prometheus have nothing to do with the lack of action or the thing of LV-426...that actually is the same old and silly poor justification that I have read over and over on this site. Remember that this is not the ambiguity ala Inception, So, why the people think that Lindelof's script is so smart? the only thing that I liked about the script is that not a rehash of the same, but just for that; because the beauties of Prometheus are due to the direction, not to the writing...don't forget. ;)

Shambhala, you are of course correct. I personally get fixated on Lindelof because he's part of the magic team that I think delivered so spectacularly on Prometheus. Certain types of art are made by groups, and once you subtract a member, it changes. So I want Ridley, Arthur Max, Marc Streitenfeld, Damon L et al. But really what I want is Ridley. Give me Ridley! NOW!

Not everyone here is fond of Lindelof's changes to the original Spaiht script. The final product onscreen is a combination of the two and not necessarily the best of each, imnsfho.
In Space, no one can hear you fart.

@major noob: streitenfeld is someone who really flew under the radar as far as meaningful contributions go. The more i listen to Marc's score, the more i really like it. I was a bit ambivalent in regards to the music when the film first came out...no longer. I hope Marc comes back on board for the sequel.

OldGuy- I know my position is not popular, I was just so enthralled by the final product! I dont mean to short change Spaihts, I enjoyed his original treatment and it's the chassis that Prometheus is built on. His was a classic Alien format and I would have been perfectly happy with that, so long as Ridley gave it his trademark otherworldly treatment. But Lindelof gave it a sort of pop angle that refreshed the experience and made it an unexpected treat, something new. For me.
Joey- And the same goes for Streitenfeld! His score has the huge ominous depths I had hoped for, plus a layer of exploration, discovery and adventure on top. I think the opening music was absolutely perfect. The combination of sound and visuals is so powerful, and throughout, Prometheus stands alone as an aesthetic accomplishment. Glad you like it!

End of 2014 is still possible/start of 2015, if they get it all under way in the next 3 to 6 months. Just a guess, but still possible I reckon.
