MemberOvomorphFeb-12-2013 4:52 PMI am totally spent from killing Aliens in the new game 'Aliens: Colonial Warriors". Its pretty exciting but of course there are a few things that will frustrate the hell out of you and I have my pet peeves already. One thing that would improve it would be the ability to save immediately when needed, not just at certain points. The way it is, you may make your way along with some idiot fellow Marine named O'Neal who only tends to get in your way and doesn't seem to know where he is going to a given point in spite of this guy only to get killed by an Alien and have to go all the way back to the beginning of the section and have to do it all over again. The other thing that annoys me is the game automatically switching you from the much favored pulse rife to the choppy and slowly firing assault rife right in the middle of a melay even though you have just reloaded so it wouldn't happen. Between O'Neal not knowing where he is going and the gun changing in the middle of battle I must have gotten unnecessarily killed by Aliens a million times! And then its right back to the whole sequence to be gone through again because you couldn't save it after a particularly difficult place. Now I am just exhausted and need a break. I swear I want to frag O'Neal!!!!!

MemberOvomorphFeb-12-2013 11:04 PMi didnt buy it - had a go on a mates pc yesterday - played deathmatch for a bit and then had a go at coop - to me coop is more fun, shame his headset was busted, probably some great dynamics to be had with designated motion tracker members of the team '11oclock' '7oclock' etc. i know what you mean though O'neal is really really annoying.
in this game i really wanted an unashamed rip-off of Left for Dead 2 co-op campaign mode - with teamwork being the main thing, scenery and story secondary - but they've shot themselves in the foot by attaching the game to 'canon' events in the series - and thus their expansions will be limited to that ... limit. had it been set 50 years later on a random colony planet that got infested.. well the stuff they could make up for that would be not limited - be more fun to write and all the rest.
L4D2 was clever enough to not cram all the players into tiny spaces (or level 'corridors') all the time. To me, this means their NPC AI does not have to be as perfect - and is why the NPCs in A:CL are more obviously crap. Their AI writers were't as good as what they needed and it shows. (friendlies blocking line-of-sight is a real thing in combat, but it's not so bad if they are actually shooting at something)
!SPOILERS?
so i glazed over the full story on some 'walkthrough' vids,,, not sure what to think ... GEORGE LUCAS EFFECT? yeh i blame him, even though he has enough mud slung at him to make a small planet - it seems writers and publishers have failed to understand what that mud means to the very fans they are so desperately trying to cater to ('cater to' not 'please'). They most certainly understand money though.
Franchise rape is not really a new thing, granted, so it can't all be pinned on Lucas, i just feel that 'The Phantom Menace' has lowered the bar on such a level (on many levels) that it's effect is still underestimated. It's like a beacon for acceptable mediocrity; a permission certificate to deface famous works of art in the name of 'fanservice'. The floodgates have opened and are filling up all the giant plotholes with endless amounts of fanmoney.
Enough analogies for a minute. The thing i'm most worried about it the shallowness of writing that is happening. Fans love lightsabers = everything with lightsabers is awesome = lets put lightsabers EVERYWHERE! Fans love Xenomorphs and the characters from 'Aliens' = everything with Xenos = awesome + bring characters from 'Aliens' back = more awesome. So, no depth in the additions to the franchises, its replaced with references to past glories. Back to analogies; i'm preaching to the converted here so no need to rant on.

MemberOvomorphFeb-13-2013 12:21 AMThanks Gigerfan. I have to say I agree with you and its good to know where this thing is going storywise. So far all I know is I keep getting killed and ONeal is an a**bite. I've tried fragging him but he never dies .lol.

MemberOvomorphFeb-13-2013 9:04 AMThis game could have been so much better. I'm just after finishing it and to be honest, I'm not happy. There are some good parts but they are few and far between. I got attacked by 1 facehugger the whole game, 1. Don't get me wrong I loved seeing some of Hadleys Hope and the Derelict but thats about it. Im going to play Alien Trilogy for the PS1 its far better.
Viddy well, little brother. Viddy well.
