what I'm saying is, "If xenos are the gods, why is there a statue of a humanoid head in the ampule room?" In fact, didn't Lindelof INSERT this into the Spaiht rewrite? Has Lindelof ever been cross-examined about the head? Man, I gotta let this lie - but I love the discussion too much. I love it.

it's confusing but I still can't bring myself to think the xenos are the true gods. there is nothing wrong with that or anything but I just don't think it's the case

@Claudius: As much as I hate "Resurrection" so I normally won't even bother commenting, but in this case I'd say this was done for pure efficiency, as the facehuggers attach themselfes to anything that's close to a face, wherever they find the easiest way into their host's bodies. Other than that I'd say it was done for a more horrifying visual impact, with no big ideas behind it. @Custodian: Why do you have to keep going on about this? Indeed, it's been discussed many times over. The statue is an exact depiction of an Engineer's head, as much or as little human-like as you want it to be. Humans have built statues to celebrate their own kind and indeed, there's also a mural in the ampule room that looks like they are in fact worshipping whatever that creature is. Maybe after all they just think they're greater than them, or it's like what I still believe, they have created the xenomorphs in one way or another...

I hate to state the obvious, but the xenomorphs are simply not gods!!! I feel like I'm in the Emperor's New Clothes! What artificial thinking ever came up with this preposterous idea. Take one look at them. To be Gods, they would have to be superingtellegent or creative enough to make up for the lack of intelligence and these xenomorphs are neither intelligent or creative, they are only lethal and destructive. The only major god that is destructive is Shiva, and Shiva is intelligent. The xenomorphs are more like insects than Gods! Lets not waste one more moment's time with this left-base notion. It just doesn't possess the ring of truth to it.

I couldn't agree more. IMO there's nothing god-like about the xenomorphs as we know them, although in Dan O'Bannon's original script they were meant to be portrayed as far more sophisticated creatures with a vast cultural background and ceremonial murals, etc... But that's not what made it onto the silver screen. I wouldn't want to say whether that's a good or a bad thing.

Ok forget that last paragraph in my last comment, and since I'm not so much into editing, I'll leave it as it is. What I'd like to add is that I do very much prefer the xenomorphs to always be what they are, keeping their very attributes and appearance we all love so much. Does anyone of you guys seriously want to see them as gods? What are gods to you? Is it not the total lack of 'personality' and the fact that we know so very little about them, that made them such mysterious and horrifying creatures in the first place? Do you want to see them now go about their every-day lifes, worshipping their creations... discussing leadership in bars over a pint of black goo? The more we'd learn about them, the more we'd sympathise with them and as a result I'd see the entire franchise fall apart!!

Is it me or does Custodian ponder wayyyy too much about a movie. If he takes it too seriously we'll have to build a movie set for him with a tire swing and a couch. To me there's nothing "god-like" about them either. Just because they use these horrific creatures doesnt mean they worship them common pull your head out of the sand. The Engineers probably worship a being that looks like them. The "HUMAN LOOK" could just be the so called intelligent design. Ridley could make it different though b/c he loves to trick us and get our blood pumping.

The Anunnaki were on the earth in those days--and also afterward--when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, mighty men of high reno

Well in a sense their are intelligent. I guess you could call them tactical instead but you know, but yeah, they shouldn't ever be considered as Gods

hey guys why i consider xenomorph as gods;my example on earth we have bacteria (exist for 4 5 bilion years ),but we have using bacteria on war (chimical war or biological)or modificate bacteria to be nocive in laborat, they are for ever with us they are our gods. why necesary engineers make xenomorph ,what they are evoluted from xenomorph and use like us bacteria???he have evolution from bacteria

It's called instinct. If anything beyond that, they're 'streetwise' but that's as far as it goes for me. They're at the bottom of the hierarchy and that goes for all stages of their lifecycle. Mere tools, that's what they are, far from gods by any definition...

I think the Xenos are like God's crumbs, not random but still particles of a much higher thinking, partially if not outright fabricated by something with way too much influence over life and how it functions. I think this is where things are going, an amplification of our own tendency to arrogance and over reaching, on an incomprehensible scale. The symbolism in the ampule room is baffling, I think custodian is just wondering about it here.

I partially agree with Major Noob, apart from seeing it as an amplification of a tendency. In Prometheus I haven't seen anything that I wouldn't have seen in today's society, to even larger extends and expressed through far more arrogant behaviour. However, if that's what Custodian really wanted to say, then I don't think it came across very well. But one thing I'd like to add: Considering it was Lindelof inserting that part into Spaiths' script and if that meant taking away a god-like quality from the xenomorphs (which I'm not sure Spaiths ever intended to do) then I'd say that's a good change. I'd hate to see anything sophisticated being planted into the original xenomorph's raw, simplistic, instinctive character. Like I said before, it would kill all the fascination and admiration I had for those beings in all these years. Therefore, I'm glad that Spaiths, Lindelof and Scott introduced a different thread and new symbolism to achieve that. Needless to say that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and have the freedom to choose what to believe in. So this is just my opinion on this.

Claudius, bacterial and not creative and are certainly not intelligent. It is not logical to think of them as gods in any sense of the word. Cusodian, I am willing to have an intelligent discussion with anyone here but there are some arguments that are outside the realm of common sense or logic that are very hard to take seriously. Let us not waste this forum in the illogical when there are plenty of rational ideas worth discussing, yes?

In fact, "Yeah, everyone should be allowed to RATIONAL THINK," even those who sorely miss Space Trucker and/or 'Prometheus has landed' and/or come up with alternative-desire threads for 'whatever the hell happened' to their gloriously adult and perverse Giger-series that Lindelof shat on, as a prequel. I mean, he really did, didn't he? And what's that MASSIVE HEAD all about? And the Crucified Xeno on the wall? And the green crystal? Were these (and other) questions ever answered? No, because Lindelof threw threw in, as a foil for Ridley's original Space Jockey enigma. But unfortunately, no, now humanity can't be the only thing attached to the Engineer DNA random seed scatter, our cats and pigeons and earthworms ALSO need to have been affected by the black goo when the spaceship visited Foss falls. I mean, has it even been established that planet was even Earth? Noob, I love your 'crumbs of the gods' image. You rock. Hal, I wonder if 'what I'm saying' is really all that hard to understand. Wait, oh, I get it, it's 'just a film' so no RATIONAL THINK allowed, right? I guess I'll go on the Superman forum and start to get concerned over his 'levitation' trick; you know, him being far denser than the average human.

The relationship between creators and xenos can be like the relationship between humans and apes. Although they could be ancestors; as a primitive life form of another more complex creature, but definitely the xenos are not gods of any kind. BTW the thought of Major Noob sounds interesting, but if the sequel will be directed in that way then we will never see the creator of the Engineers. However the mystery could generate certain charm, as with the original Space Jockey enigma.

There is so many ways they could go creation wise from here, we already we established that engineers are the ones who essentially created us but now there is so much. what about the xenos and the engineers' gods? this is the question(obviously, since it is pretty much what we have discussed already) and I don't think we will have the answer until it is put on screen for us to see and think about

Just make something up; you're probably putting more thought into it than the film crew did. But the reason is so that they could show the humanoid head in the trailers to get you interested in the movie so you'd buy a ticket to give Fox money.

Since the movie was originally called Alien Engineers, it's safe today the Engineers made the Xeno (or at least learned how to synthesize them) not the other way around!! Yes they regard it as a "perfect organism" like Ash, but it is their creation. (They may have borrowed some genes to 'tweak' themselves but that I it!!) 'God' will be a totally new being, I'm sure.

By 'perfect organism' I suspect Ash meant "there's no way to kill it" i.e. it always exists. It might change its form and go through 'evolution' but it never dies. It's like living metal or some other thing -- in fact, I always loved this about the original xeno in Alien a) it was probably made of some sort of living metal and b) it was STILL changing and transforming its shape throughout its adult phase i.e. it could slip through cracks in machinery etc. It is a GOD in that sense, just not a creative god, neither a destructive god. Just omnipotent in time, it's always alive. I suspect, if they'd have given it some thought, they could have suggested that its ACIDIC BLOOD was the black goo that the Engineer drank, but I don't know if that's part of the plan. That the outer shape of the xeno is just some 'hardened carapace'. Xeno is singular AND never dies.

Yes I agree the engineers were already established as the gods that created us, and according to Ridley Scott, when he posed the question: Who created the engineers? The answer was God. I saw that in the documentary 'The Furious Gods'. Now Claudius, no point at getting mad at me. Also I have posted my ideas about Paradise if you will go back and read them. I said that Shaw and David were walking into a political war between the faction that created us and then pro space Jesus ones who blamed us for crucifying their emissary and therefore wanted us dead, such as the one at the end of Prometheus. So if you want something logical to argue about, I welcome one about that theory if you want. I welcome all well thought out sensical hypotheses, but don't be surprised if I react to ones that don't hold up to logic, and the idea of xenos as gods just doesn't cut the mustard.

Agreed Nostromo!! Xeno is birthed from Engineer/Human/ sometimes dog, not the other way around!! I also agree that they are held in High esteem by the Engineers. To say they are Gods, just not 'creative' Gods, is missing the point. Are we asking who came first, who made who, or simply who is lower on the totem pole? Also the behaviour of Xenos is purely survival instinct: Kill any threat (or what is perceived as a threat) Reproduce. They have incredible instincts and defence mechanisms, I think this is what Ash 'admired' about them. They are like him- no messy emotions, stronger, better, faster...plus acid blood to boot. Not to mention the cool ways (cut or uncut) they can reproduce. Anyway, ramble...ramble-I agree with whoever said they are more like 'harvesters' or 'cleaners' used to wipe the 'Petri Dish' clean. Not Gods; it just doesn't fit.

Fleshvessel, the point of my 'perfect organism' quote and that this might mean they're gods is, "Something that is alive, forever, and is intelligent, and can morph a human into an egg, and do all other things," AND NEVER DIES. Isn't that God-ly?

Custodian, I hate to ask again (obviously I'm not the only one not getting you right away) but what is your point in the previous comment? I did not say anything about TATTOOS in this or any other thread... The only thing I'd imagine you're referring to is the dissimilarity between the Engineers and their depictions/statues/murals? TRANSLATE what, the TATTOOS? Or the inscriptions in the temple? Please clarify. Cheers.

Nostromo, this face: is there an Engineer (good or bad) in the film that has THESE MARKINGS on his face? No. Have I missed a published translation of these facial markings (yes, I called them tattoos because if they were on a real person's face I'm not sure they'd survive the 'chiselling')?

There's something very primative about these engineers. Those facial markings remind me of some of the aboriginal people of austrailia and primative tribes of africa and the amazon. It is possible that the engineers do worship the xeno as a god even though it is not really one, much like primative tribes worship animals or nature spirits. If you think about it for the engineers to have millions or possible billions of years head start on us just how much more advanced are they really. Perhaps they had their own version of a dark age and their techonolgy is frozen in time and their religion is what has kept them there.

Maybe the markings are a warning to other Engineers entering the room.As for the Engineers themselves, I see them as Monks, that why I think David was a blasfamous creature to them.As for the Xenomorph as a God, very unlikely, on the other hand maybey an important part in their lifecycle?A necesarry symbiote impossible to live without in some weird way....maybe the Xeno is somekind of prophecy to them?
