MemberChestbursterApr-07-2013 12:05 AMI definitely agree. Although I am one of the people who thinks that the transformation scenario or possibility and the queen are both true. The queen is what they primarily are born by, but in given situations, they can transform people into eggs or aliens or whatever they would transform into.

MemberOvomorphApr-07-2013 12:25 AMI like to think of the 'Xenomorph' as perfect. The androids have stated as much. Maybe a queen is required on LV-426 because of the conditions there. Perhaps the species is parthenogenetic, hetro, or homosexual depending on atmospheric or psychological conditions.

AdminPraetorianApr-07-2013 2:30 AMI like to think the Xeno can use both methods to reproduce. In the event there is no Queen, the Xeno uses material from it's environment to produce an egg.
A crustacean may have been an inspiration for Cameron's Alien Queen design as well. I posted that here awhile back and it's fun to speculate; Alien Queen design was inspired by a Crustacean.

MemberOvomorphApr-07-2013 2:47 AMIf a xeno comes from a queen it means the xeno is simply an animal. Its only purpose is to increase its kind.
I dont think the transformation process is inefficent, the opposite actually (in term of expanding the xeno species to other envoriments). For instance, kane was being transformed into an egg, from there you get a facehugger which kills dallas (who has already been cocooned), dallas body is then infected and is transformed into an egg. All you need is 1 xeno and the whole starts again, anywhere.
The queen theory the species wont start in a new envoriment unless you have a queen. With the transformation theory all you need is one xeno.

MemberOvomorphApr-07-2013 3:14 AMoh, dear, no, no, no ... but you expected me to be so 'forthright', so 'patrician', right?
Ash's PERFECT ORGANISM refers to a rogue universal surviver that "Don't need no steenkeen Queen Mother waving at the window of her limo with a tafetta glove," no sir no.
Xenomorph, and this could be the ONLY reason why it's 'worshipped' in Prometheus' ampule room, is ONE-ness; ever-existing. Like Sauron or Morgoth or Melkor in Tolkein's Silmarillion (all shadows of the same dark light) a xenomorph 'manifests' via host material when it suits its purpose. In a perfect universe, the ampules would contain the distilled essence of a harvested planet that's been visited by the Engineers through their long journey. Imagine that, each ampule contains a WORLD. Then the Ampule Room makes sense; like the Arctic Corn Stores of human survivalism.
I suspect the UNTOLD STORY of the first Alien Space Trucker is that it wasn't carrying EGGS but Human(oid) Traffic, and whatever came out of his chest as he parked up on LV-426 found the human cargo and 'converted' it into some useful form. I think the Engineer/Space Farmer was caught in a Deadly War of Attrition with the eternal Xeno organism, running away from it at any opportunity and storing Human Seed off in places like LV-426; having the SPace Truckers deliver it there for them. The original Space Truckers are all dead, fossilised millennia ago; that's why the Engineers had to back-engineer their hyperspace chair technology to wrap themselves in.
Two eternal races; one just an eternal xeno, one an eternal rebirther.

MemberOvomorphApr-07-2013 9:28 AMAnnunaki- Happy Birthday!
It's true that a Queen makes sense, and the idea of one never bothered me. But the hideous fate of Dallas and Brett did much to expand the horror of the Alien, and I like the idea that an egg can be made from a human body. I don't know of a direct parallel in nature, but some wasps do use a living host to incubate and feed its young. The Xeno could restrain its victim and simply inject it with some variant of the goo, no muss no fuss. For the Xeno, anyway. Maybe Dallas was a queen egg?
Custodian- your idea is "growing" on me, heh heh. For me it ties in with the idea that humans were initially created as lab materials, handy little versions of the Engineers own DNA, which they hand abundant access to. That's why we exist. Lab rats. D:

MemberOvomorphApr-07-2013 10:51 AMWe've debated the reproduction cycles of the xenomorphs here in the past and I thought we had reached consensus that both cycles are probable depending on conditions and availability of a queen embryo. I at first only accepted the queen reproductive cycle until others here convinced me and I revised my opinion to include both cycles.

MemberChestbursterApr-07-2013 12:49 PMyeah we did pretty much agree on that Nostromo, but one thing I seemingly have to continuously say is that for the sake of letting these two movies get along together, the queen seems like an evolutionary part of the life cycle. I kind of think that, originally, the Alien depended on cocooning people and what not, but lv426 gave way to the queen(I couldn't give a solid reason why, but it did.) Also, I thought I should mention, I think that would become the main way of producing once the queen is in their life cycle, but the cocooning still happens. Like the deacon in Prometheus would probabaly have to do some type of cocooning too survive if anyone showed up and that's assuming it is like the original xenomorph we are used to

MemberOvomorphApr-07-2013 6:14 PMYes I should have added that the queen is probably the prefered method and I do agree that it evolved over time, but not just on LV426 since everything on an evolutionary timescale takes many many generations like thousands or even millions of cycles. Custodian, since we are all speculating about a sci fi movie, nothing is ever set in stone, which is why we have the latitude to debate issues in sites like this one,
Cheers.

MemberOvomorphApr-08-2013 9:30 AMIt is true this particular topic has been explored, examined and technically debated quite a few times before and any true fan-follwer of the alien/Prometheus franchise would have intellectually reasoned a lot of this out already. It seems [sigh] that we are going here again but for the sake of newcomers that may have come here and are just getting into the Alien/Prometheus franchise canon and the overall understanding of it It is welcome I feel for us die-hard enthusiasts to offer-up the technical details of what the overarching themes and life cycles of the Xenomorph and how they all potentially match up are all about.
Incidentally, the alien xeno could be equal by comparison to a weed (i.e) Bramble Bush, Thistles, Wild Grasses, Nettles etc. Even if you chop up the main body of the growing weed spores left over could continue to give rise to stand-alone invading colonies thus spreading the spore and maintaining the exploits of every niche enviroment and availability of sunlite for procreation and photosynthisis.
Even though it has been covered in previous threads it is an ingenoius plot-point to discuss and would be excellent if it was somehoe expanded upon further then the two films essentially that have presented this cycle of its life (i.e.) Alien/Aliens) and the suggestive beginings/purposes of that very same life cycle in Prometheus.
This along with The Things life cycle origins are really interesting topics to ponder about how extensively their spread across the galaxy in each of their prospective franchises truely is.

MemberOvomorphApr-08-2013 6:43 PMHyperNova I am NOT a newcomer I have well over 200 posts and please I know you hate speculating and dont blame some one because they just joined the site. In fact if you have any issues pertaining to this thread dont say them keep them to your self. I am not trying to make an offense to anyone but you kind of insulted me and the new people here a little with a statement like that. I was speaking about the creature in real biological terms because we all use the same referrence when it comes to alien not the opposite. I am sorry we all couldnt talk about YOUR EXPECTATIONS.

MemberOvomorphApr-09-2013 4:29 AMWait a se second Anunnaki50 I am not your enemy on this, your attacking the wrong person. I know you are not a new comer, we have both spoke and co-operated on pst conversations, thats not the point here. I agree it is an interesting topic to a degree and I know this because I have participated in one thred of a similar nature a while ago. I'm saying that some same threads keep being re-hashed for the third sometimes fourth time but I am also thinking that some new comers to the site may want to get familiar with the kinds of threads and conversation topics that have already been dealt with. I was considering both sides of the coin not just one. You got the wrong impression of my earlier statement.Up to a point I was on your side. (and by the way you reflect the tone to me now of a petulant child!)

Indeed sir, I respect your candor. Forgive my impertinence. This my first time on a forum like this and im just learning the arts of online debating, one day i hope to become a master debater.
Although a queen seem likely and quite conceivable. I admit at first i didn't mind the idea, but since my sees were open to the transformation method and all the possibilities. I think that its quite congruent with the alien universe and my thoughts on the the xeno creature itself.

MemberOvomorphApr-09-2013 6:45 PMWhoa! Hey Hyper Nova I didnt mean to cause a rift I just got a little defensive and its been like that for me alot lately and I dont know why, life is getting to me. I tend to go a little too crazy and I was just trying to defend the thread and I got really carried away. Maybe I am a petulant child maybe I am the kind of person that gets upset too easily over a stinking post and for that I apologize.

MemberOvomorphApr-14-2013 1:20 AMI remember the last debate thread on this topic started a while back and the moderator closed the thread after we had discussed this ad nauseum but, alas, we MUST ruminate on and rehash this once again because we're all most likely mega geeks with Prometheus OCD like me. Ha. I held a pretty staunch Queen-birthing-the-egg model position before but now after watching that deleted Alien scene again of the crew members transforming into eggs that's definitely creepier and more mysterious by far. Since this movie is a horror sci-fi the human-to-egg fits better into the story. Am I flip-flopping? Somewhat. Perhaps there are subspecies of these xenos that each reproduce differently. Why not? The nature of the xeno DNA seems to be highly virile and quickly adaptive to new environments.
