AdminEngineerMay-02-2013 4:22 AMI would normally post this on Scified, but I figured a lot of our members may not know about Scified, especially if they're returning after being offline for a bit. So, here I go - a site update for Prometheus2-Movie.com!
This site started about 2 years ago, under the heading Prometheus-Movie.com and since then, it has become the flagship of the Scified network and the number 1 Prometheus website on the internet. Not too bad for a fansite! It was with this success and such an engaged online community that I went on to expand our reach and cover similar films in the Sci-Fi niche. This gave birth to Scified.com - a network hub - the epicenter for all our operations across 10+ fansites.
Scified aggregates all the news from across every site we host with additional posts about more general topics and movies we may not have created full websites for, like Star Trek: Into Darkness and OBLIVION. We obviously can't create a new forum / news fansite for every cool sci-fi movie to hit the big screen, but we do aim to cover the ones which can generate a lot of fan discussion and interest.
Since the creation of this website, our Jurassic Park 4 site, Blade Runner 2 site and Pacific Rim site, each website was running its own independant version of my custom made web software which I developed 3 years ago and have been building ever since. This posed a problem when I launched Scified, as calling topics, replies, news, etc... from every site all in one place with the setup I was currently working with was a major headache and would've used up a ton of processing power. Basically, I didn't plan ahead. So, this brings me to today's update.
Over the past 5 months I've been essentially rewriting each site's code framework from the ground up again, to make it compatible and completely integratable with the Scified framework - again, all custom built. I started with Blade Runner 2 (-movie.com) and continued on, with Pacific Rim, Mad Max 4, RoboCop, etc... leaving Prometheus for the end, since it was massive compared to the other sites. Hundreds of thousands of posts - a ton of data.
I am pleased to announced that as of 4am, this morning (my local time), Prometheus2-Movie.com has officially been SCIFIED.
What does this mean?
Well for starters, all your threads, replies etc... are now viewable on your Scified profile! So, when you log into Scified, or click your profile link on any of our network sites, you can view yours and anyone else's posts from the Prometheus forums, all in one place!
Also - with members you FOLLOW on Scified, if you log in and visit My.Scified.com, you will be taken to your own personalized portal, showcasing the most recent posts and discussions posted by the people you FOLLOW on the network. All posts and topics are merged into one, organized feed, from every site across the Scified Network - making it seamless for you to stay up to date with what your friends post!
Editing your profile must be done through Scified, you can not edit your profile on the Prometheus forums anymore. Editing on Scified gives you way more options than we had before! For starters, you can now upload a profile picture, you no longer have to link to one on the internet - now you have the option of either one! You can also upload a personalized profile banner, kinda like Facebook / Twitter cover photos - to customize the look of your profile.
As usual folks, I'm constantly trying to improve this network and every site hosted on it. So feedback is always appreciated. Reporting any bugs you find is also very helpful. For bug reporting, I ask that you PM me, so I can attend to it quicker.
I hope everyone enjoys this update - as it opens so many more doors for us to explore in terms of cool new site features which can be implements network-wide.
If you have any questions or concerns about how the new network functions, or if you need help with something, don't hesitate to PM me or email me at any time. I'll always answer your questions and help you out as best I can. :)
Thanks to our veteran members for continuing to grow the forums and thanks to all of our latest fans - it's great to have you here and I hope you all enjoy your time here!
Since this massive update is now over, I will continue to work away at improving various features, adding new ones and finding ways to make your experience on the Scified Network more enjoyable. Thanks again everyone! And for those lurking, not yet registered... you're missing out!
