MemberOvomorphJun-27-2013 1:19 PMNot sure if this has been discussed but the Deacons inner jaw seems to resemble the jaw of the Goblin Shark... maybe they share the same DNA which could explain why the Deacons skin bares a striking resemblance to that of an aquatic sea monster... found this video on YouTube

MemberOvomorphJun-27-2013 2:15 PMInteresting you bring that up because the goblin shark was used as inspiration for the Deacon's inner jaw mechanism. I doubt any DNA resemblance is of any matter because the Deacon is a whole new creature never before created... at least according to the evidence the movie and Mr. Scott implies.

MemberOvomorphJun-27-2013 5:12 PMYes, i believe this was in the bluray extras.
What an amazing and terrifying creature!!! I was so happy when i first discovered the Deacon had some real-world inspiration- this just adds to the believability of the creature.
I dont care what anyone says- The Deacon is by far the coolest Alien in the series (by series i mean P,A and A's)
And this is just the 'larval' stage!! Imagine a fully matured Deacon in all of his glory! I had better see that realized before the end or i may have to take my own life using the business end of a Goblin Shark.

MemberOvomorphJun-28-2013 5:26 PMThe Furious Gods documentary shows some alternative designs of the mutant fifield with Pharyngeal jaws but this new type of jaw design also reminds me a bit this bug :P

MemberOvomorphJun-28-2013 7:33 PMI like the Deacon too. That scene is great, it's creepy and icky and then... The Deacon is kinda cute! In the theatre I was thinking "what??" and then it opens its mouth, and totally changes. And like many other scenes I was thinking would be a big disappointment, I was literally laughing with glee. What a horror!
I like them all, I know a lot of peeps feel let down by the life forms but I just loved the expansion of the "family", heh heh. And the " been there done that" argument, while valid, fails to acknowledge that they've never been done so well. These are classic Hostile Space Organisms, totally in keeping with the retro ( there has to be a better word for it than that, I guess classic will have to do) space adventure aesthetic.
You look at Prometheus and you can almost see RS thinking, ok, I have this one chance, and I have a lot to say, and I'm gonna say it all right here. And he did. Yes, it could have been darker, or more serious, or whatever. But what it certainly is, is singular. Old fashioned. An homage to many great things. Now that he's got a sequel, it will be very interesting to see what he does.
Sparty was mentioned in the status bar today, and he said it best: Prometheus is a gift. It's the most modern non modern film maybe ever.
End rabid geekdom. For now.

MemberPraetorianJun-29-2013 8:04 AMLol Noob it was cute, till those jaws 'dropped'. I also thought the first sounds it made were very Raptor like.
That Deacon isn't just going to lay down & die! Given it's mixed up gene pool-goo combo, that should make it very strong & intelligent. The last page of the Art of Prometheus has it striding across the landscape with purpose. The sequel has to include it.
Can you imagine it fully mature? Look out universe!!
