Yes Annunaki s correct. Well sort of. Paradise is a planet where they took back and researched the black goo, and found out it can create life upon mixing it with dna, this was a good thing because Engineers were dying out and needed something to carry on its life ancestry. But after a while, and many planets seeded later, the Engineers that have to seed this life, (because in not so long time they will die) become frustrated with the Elders for "using" them like pawn. So the Engineers realise about the goo's qualities, and try to mix dna with goo,and use it on themselves (suit) This does at first work,they age slower,and have superstrength, but it changes themselves,and they become greedy and selfless,and the plan becomes to goo all the seeded life(LV226). At faction of the older Engineers didnt like these experiments,as they knew it would lead to something evil. When a few elders found out (after a few years) A few made it their priority to visit the site. The Elders have had eggs from an old juggernaught that lost its flight on their planet, not so long ago and upon learning of their dark secret, the Engineers try to infect the Elders, they tried to escape , but to no avail.The one elder left in the ship,after hearing the screams, lifts off for home, but not before dropping eggs through the dome roof (eggbombs). Paradise is where the Engineers live. But the elders live on a different planet, with what they call god. When the Elder gets back, it informs the god like being of what happened, The God gets extremely angry and orders Paradise to be wiped out. BTS carry on David and Shaw soon. This is all coming off top of me head.

Anunnaki - interesting choice in user names pertaining to the subject at hand... Wonder how many people get it... Are you guys/gals building this story based on speculation or do you know something about what is to come in the next two films??? For me it is hard to speculate, but all you have mentioned makes sense. The question is, Is this a story of the evolution of the species or of the duality of engineers vs elders in an attempt to either wipe out humanity or to seed the universe??? Hard to tell the actual intent of the engineers as they didn't specify, but reacted in a hostile manner. Perhaps the idea is to wipe us out, but we, the humans believe they created us when, In fact, they only started the process of our decay, our demise. Shaw mentioned that she was wrong, but we do not know in what way. Did the one engineer that sacrificed himself infect or contaminate our world??? Or, did his sacrifice create humanity??? It seems clear in one way that whatever is in contact with the black goo generates or spawns something unsavory, not peaceful or humane. I get the idea that it all leads to what happens in the first alien film because of our greed and lust for power and that happens because the engineers know that we will want the specimen to gain that power, but will eventually wipe us out. It seems to be part of the big plan...

The big plan is to bait us by leaving a ship full of alien eggs on LV426 repeating a distress beacon knowing that we will catch it and inevitably wipe us out...

There was a belief that ancient egyptian burial site were booby trapped to ward of grave robbers. I think some were contaminated with bacteria spurs. I have a theory that the canisters were designed to seep (when the door was opened)and contaminate all intruders.

Well its pretty much a open book as to how Ridley is going to with Paradise..... I hope we find out more about the Engineers and Elders and who ultimately created them and why, and us and why as opposed to finding out what the Xeno is..... But while we can all speculate, there really is any possibility that Ridley could go with.... A interesting thing would be why the Engineers/Elders or who is their creator has never been back to investigate Earth, or LV 223 after the Outbreak.... Do who ever is on Paradise know of the creation of Mankind and LV 223 Outpost, do they know but think it is now destroyed? do they know about the downfall and simply dont care..... But as far as Ridley goes if we go by his comments..... Then Shaw and David would set off to find the Engineer Homeworld, and as Ridley wanted with Prometheus to explore who the Space Jockey Race was as opposed to the Xeno Orgins, and we have barely scratched the surface, and how he left the Elder scene out as he changed his mind and wished to leave them for another movie and maybe redesign them a bit. This would point to that indeed we could find more evidence and answers as to who these Engineers are, and who those Elders are (unless they are drastically re-designed). But ultimately Ridley did say he never wanted to meet God in the first movie, now this implies that these Engineers and maybe the Elders are not the supreme creator and that these Engineers must have been created by some other race or being. Ridley also said that the Godlike figure would not be God in the traditional sense and that he would be a figure that is far from Benevolent. This could raise some questions, as to why a none Benevolent Supreme Race or Being has not made sure we are wiped out, or indeed how would they perseave Shaw and David. They surely cant be hostile from the start as far as want them dead right away as it would make for a short movie, it would be that these beings/being would want to capture them and then show them their agenda and give Shaw her answers but ultimately would have any questions for Shaw as they would be intrigued maybe with how we developed once Engineer interaction stopped... But they would ultimately have some agenda and purpose for Shaw that would be a far more wicked one than Davids Agenda was. You then have to read Ridleys other comments about David, as it states that while Shaw wants her answers David has his own Agenda and he is bringing Hell with him, and Ridley and Co ask the question what happens when the Ampules are used on God, or a Robot.... This would to me imply that these Malevolent Beings they will meet will not be able to carry out their Agenda on Shaw or go on to destroy Mankind as David would put a stop to them using the Ampules...

@pulserifle187 Indeed it would appear that the Ampules are activated in changes to the Environment and Air.... and surely it cant be purely Temperature. Maybe it is the effect of Carbon Dioxide and by that maybe its the changes that occur to the Ampule Store Rooms Atmosphere once a Living Organism enters the vicinity and something is exhales via its respiratory system that then activates a reaction in the Ampules. Or maybe its something in the breathable Atmosphere i.e within Oxygen or similar that activates them... As we see the Sacrificial Bowl seems to go from a Solid well kind of thick mud like material to a more liquid one once the lid is taken off and the substance is exposed to the Atmosphere of the Planet. Maybe this is why they are Terra forming? Maybe the Ampule Room is Sterile from breathable Atmosphere. Maybe this is why the Engineers need the Space Jockey suits, and that indeed they either. 1) Prevent them from contaminating the Ampules, this assumes that like the Human Crew that once they take their helmets off and start to exhale this effects the Atmosphere that then causes the Ampules to activate. 2) That the sterile environment that is required to keep these Ampules in Stasis and un-activated is not habitable to the Engineers. Also of note is that it appears that the substance may need elements that are abundant within Liquid in order to become active as far as being able to carry out what the Substance is supposed to do. Thus the Thicker Goo needs a liquid substance in order to react with.

Big Dave your theory on the Ampules makes good sense on how they would react to the change of atmosphere when the humans helmets were removed. They also put strong emphasis on the characters making that decision in the film, so obviously something like that was in mind. It also makes good sense that the engineers would wear the Jockey suits for that reason as well as navigation of the ship. In thinking, the visual of the GIANT Easter Island style Engineer head in the same room as the Ampules comes to mind. Seems that they deem themselves as the creator by leaving such a significant symbol to be found. But, something tells me the "to be found" theme plays a part in all of Ridley's Alien films as if we, the humans were supposed to find the location of the Engineers, the Ampules, The Derelict Craft on LV426... All seem to be deliberate bread crumbs throughout the story...

@bigdave When the sacrifical engineer opened his bowl it did react to the open environment . I always thought that perhaps when the headroom was opened and canisters leaked. all that really happened was the black goo got contaminated, that was pretty much it.
