MemberOvomorphAug-21-2013 10:36 AMHi everyone, Zager2525 new member here I have been reading this site since December 2011 , Just wanted to post an observation here I don't think its been posted before.
Holloway takes his helmet off and screams like a loon why?
Because he's Drunk!!!!
Shaw gets David to invite Shaw and Holloway for a drink, Holloway drinks so does Vickers but like David it would be wasted on them both, Between them Vickers and David play out this little charade (check David's expression as he pours the vodka) Shaw does not drink at all, but now Holloways integrity is compromised and spends the rest of his time getting legless
Vickers and David already know that Holloway has a problem with alcohol and the have identified him as the weak link in the team and they exploit it.
Further along Fifield loses his cool ( GIANT DEAD BODIES AIN'T MY THING)
just after that the scene flashes to Holloway really quickly and he appears totally smashed!!!
If someone screamed at my hot girlfriend like that I would be quite mad, But is Holloway? NO he just mumbles or is that SLURS "calm down man
Anyway like I said just an observation keep up the good work guys.

MemberOvomorphAug-21-2013 10:58 PMFantastic observation, again, it was also David that persuaded that the air was fine, he is always manipulating the crew and putting them at risk.

MemberFacehuggerAug-22-2013 5:33 AMHmm I think it was lindelof n ridley that were the only drunk ones :s . Its true that they should of made it part of the film that they were smashed pretty sure there were more hints in the original script and deleted scenes but some bright spark decided to take them out leaving the film confused and muddled.
"It's almost as if they are making it up as they go along" :D

MemberOvomorphAug-23-2013 10:07 PMInteresting. However you have pointed out two of my bug bears regarding Prometheus. No one in their right mind would take their helmet off on a foreign planet, despite what David said and the total childish non scientific behaviour of a number of the crew.. this drove me crazy and ruined an otherwise fabulous film..

MemberOvomorphAug-24-2013 2:18 AMThat would mean that the crew is even more incompetent than we've been lead to believe.
Not to say anything about your analysis; it's not inconceivable, but if true it serves as even more evidence of bad writing.
Why the hell would a top secret, trillion dollar mission of world altering proportions involve a team member with alcoholism? Didn't they do extensive psychological profiling of everyone involved? It's not difficult and it's cheap relative to the mission.
Actually, now that I think of it, why would the Prometheus stock alcohol anyway? These are supposed to be consummate professionals, the best of the best. What the hell are they inebriating themselves for?

MemberOvomorphAug-24-2013 12:16 PMExactly brego, Nobody in their right mind would do such a stupid thing , But you know what it's like when you've had a few drinks ( unless you're a teetotaller apologies if anyone is ) that you think you're invincible and common sense goes right out of the window coming round as to why Prometheus stocked alcohol HHMMMM!!!! never thought of that aspect to be honest I just thought it was an interesting scene and the fact that Vickers can drink vodka UP!!!! in her words, and not have any ill effects was a very interesting, it was almost as if alcohol would have no effect on her or as another member of the crew stated " It would be wasted on me" but hey that discussion has being going on for ages on this site (you now the one I mean cheers anyway for the replies
P.s it has been mentioned that in the deleted scenes that there is more material concerning the alcohol subject but I've only got the dvd version so not seen it can anyone tell me where I can find those scenes on the web ( please bear in mind that I'm a complete Luddite when it comes to computing and I'll have to get the kids to tell me what to do cheers y'all)

MemberFacehuggerAug-24-2013 4:04 PMYer well I think the original script by spaights and a bit of the deleted scenes hint properly about smoking some drugs in the helmeted suits helping explain the fifield milburn crap. And yer there was some deleted scenes online but they got taken down torrents or buy dvd might be only way. And the helmet scene -man that was the worst scene I have seen in years. Even if he was drunk why would all of them follow! Anyway its been argued a million times over just search the forum :D .

MemberOvomorphAug-24-2013 7:42 PMYes, I heard about the marijuana smoking scenes/plot point as well. It's even worse.
Part of what made Alien such an exemplary film was that all the characters were depicted as cautious and competent for the most part; and they were just blue collar workers, not carefully selected PhDs!
I really want to appreciate Prometheus as an excellent film, but it has more holes that a sieve.

MemberOvomorphSep-02-2013 12:11 AMGood or should I say excellent science fiction is always believable, even in unbelievable situations. As soon as something stupid or idiotic happens, we as viewers are able to start picking.
This is why Star Trek and Doctor Who are so successful. No matter how implausible the plot, your there with them to the end, because you care and understand.
Thinking about it, the only flaw i found in Alien is the fact that most of the crew are smoking in a pressurised environment. Perhaps we over look it because Alien is so brilliant. But smoking inside a pressurised space suit, really.......

MemberOvomorphAug-03-2014 1:38 PMAlien, Classic, Tetrarch42, But the NOSTROMO was a pressuried space vessel, Oxygen is a precious commodity, Most of the cautious and competent crew were smoking like loons, There is also a scene when they first wake up, And Dallas is drinking a can of what looks like beer, On the Beercan is the first (I think Mention of WEYLAND YUTANI) on the beercan's logo. BLIMEY I post 8 posts in a year and I've done two in one night, Cheers y'all
