Weyland captures the Engineer instead of waking him up!

They could have encased him in carbonite ... d'oh sorry wrong franchise reboot.

Well Weyland wanted to meet the Engineer in person, and so David woke him up for Weyland and we know what happened next...

But your post does bring about a few points of interest...

1) We have to assume that the  Weyland name survives because if Alien 3 is to be considered Canon we have Bishop, unless he is just a Android like Bishop from Aliens..

Somewhere down the line we have to ask not only how does Weyland get on and Merge with Yutani but also why there seems to be a Weyland connection as far as inheritance etc.

2) Yes surely someone at Weyland would find out the connection to Engineers and Humans as far as DNA goes and they may ponder what would make these Engineers be able to live for much longer.

I think Ridley and the team did that either on purpose or just for logic screen sake. If you have a cry-pod than you probably want to be completely awake and out of the cryopod after it opens up. Otherwise whats the point of just opening it just to yank him out of his tubes and mask feeding him O2 and nutrients. He would know instantly.

I think the point would be moot fo the script that went into production and on-screen.

I can't believe everyone is not seeing the possiblities here. Remember what the first three movies were about. Alien, they set down on company orders to get one. Then Aliens Burk has "real" orders to get one. Then Aliens 3 Weyland himself goes through all the trouble to get some genetic material. In all of the books its all about capturing these things alive and studing them.

Then in this movie Weyland just walks up to an Engineer that he knows desiged the Alien and thinks ok well it will be ok to just try and talk to it. PEOPLE we need to discuss this because this is not how the next movie is going to play out with Dr. Shaw and David. Shaw and David are going to this homeworld and they are going to get the answers they need! 

People we are going in deep and hard on this and we are gonna stop playing around. These Engineers killed Weylands character which I don't like, they messed up David, who I like most of all in this movie. So it's pay back time. I need Dr. Shaw to get hard and do what we need to see. That means capturing one of these Engineers and making them talk and then hitting that thing upside it's head till it keeps talking...AHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Hey dont blame us for having a different opinion, its just that the capturing Engineer concept would feel too much like Frankenstein or King Kong. They probably will get one in stasis somehow afterall its one movie out of a whole new franchise.
