MemberNeomorphDec-21-2013 3:40 AMWhile searching for Weyland-Yutani information on tinternet, i came across something interesting and thought that i would share it with you all:
http://www.avpgalaxy.net/2013/12/13/the-weyland-yutani-reports/
I know everyone is getting frustrated with the lack of news regarding Prometheus 2, but this is better than nothing.
The poster was good though!

MemberChestbursterDec-21-2013 12:44 PMWHOA Alien: Out of the Shadows looks awesome!!! I'm interested to see if they can really make it a good story because Ripley being awake here seems like it can be an easy failure to me, but I'll have to try and remember that this is coming out and get me a copy!

MemberXenomorphDec-21-2013 5:00 PMThe novel will have subtle referenced to the film prometheus. Interesting. Yes the hostory of weyland yutani is definitely something I would pay a lot to see .ripley not asleep all the time. ?? How that ?? How did ashs consciousness survive ?? In what form ??
Necro
Canon is what the fan base considers official source material as far as I understand. So my answer is no . It is not canon until the fanbase says it is considered as official .
oduodu
MemberXenomorphDec-21-2013 5:03 PMWho owns the rights to these novels ?? Fox ?? Is this then fan fiction ao fantasy ?? But it would be interesting to know what weyland yutani did in those 57 years . Like how they eastablished a colony on lv 426 without the colonists knowing about it . 3 novels ?? Well i hopes it does well .

MemberNeomorphDec-21-2013 5:18 PMOdu; It appears that ALIEN: Out of the shadows, will be part of a trilogy. As far as it being canon, there is this statement from the author of the artical:
"The novels are being written under the supervision of 20th Century Fox, and have been confirmed as part of the film series' canon.[1] "
So yes, apparentely it will be canon to the films.
But, how would they explain ASH's conciousness surviving the destruction of the Nostromo i hear you say.
Well, the only way they could possibly explain that in a believable way, is if, ASH uploaded his data to the ships main frame/database, (BEFORE it was destroyed,) then that data/conciousness would automatically be accessible from the Narcassus sic (the shuttle that Ripley escapes in.)

Do you think that these novels might be a hint at 3 movies between alien and aliens ?? Is this what fox is aiming at ?
Necro
Can yoy read my posts as I'm all of it ? Not running. Out of the text box ?? All my posts were typed in the blog reply box. Ok so ash loaded his data into the narcasis . But his consciousnes ?? Don't understand.

I hope for an alien tv series. Apparently at one stage they did consider a tv series but then deserted the idea. Necro I know you love alien3 intimately but someone commented it was a remake of alien on. A planet with refinery as on the ship nostromo. So istopped reading the scripts . There are nine for alien 3 and many of them are very weird which that fox returned to what made alien great with the exception of the space jockey.
Why do you think they never touched upon the sj in alens and then alien 3 ??

MemberNeomorphDec-21-2013 5:38 PMOdu; I haven't got a clue buddy. I know as much as you at this point. But i will be keeping an eye out for anymore news/updates on it.

It seems that the posts I do this with seem to run out of the text box. So fox is testing the waters ?? Interesting......

MemberXenomorphDec-21-2013 5:57 PMI agree . I wonder if fox isn't testing the response of fans to the novels to try and see if there is interest. Speaking if tv series necro : what do you think of the terminator reboot - which apparently will have a tv series running concurently to the remakes of the therminator franchise ??
If so then isn't this perhaps what fox wants to see - a tv series running between the 3 movies set between alien and aliens. That could be very interesting. But I have to say that I am very eager to see where the engineer thing is going. The scope of the engineer worlds is massive. I guess we will have to wait and see !!!!

MemberDeaconDec-22-2013 10:29 AMWell for it to be considered canon, we would have to assume that maybe Fox would have to collaborate with the author... you see we dont want to end up having this book try and give us a explanation to the Xenos Orgins and if it has some connection to both the Egg Morph and Prometheus Black Goo.
If its just made up by the author and for example Fox choose not to go the same route with the explanations for the Xeno in future movies. Then it would just cause even more contradiction etc.
Unless they only cover what is known about the Organism, and thus does not give us how the Organism came to be or show us definatively how the Engineers came to be connected and how LV 223 is also.

MemberOvomorphDec-22-2013 1:54 PMIn Prometheus we learned that David was messing with Shaw's subconsciousness, and that Weyland could enter a state where he was able to control his dream, and communicate while in cryo sleep... I believe we can already see subtle connections between Prometheus and Alien: Out of the Shadows.
The conscious mind is often unaware of what the other side is doing. The subconsciousness is a powerful thing. Weyland-Yutani might make a habit of constantly deceiving the minds of their crews and treating them as expendable, without letting them know the full details of the agendas. The universe around us may not be exactly the way our senses perceive. All matter is made up of energy, which may be important. Genetics and DNA are like coding or programming. Some psychologists compare the human mind to a computer.
In short, Alien: Out of the Shadows and the Weyland Yutani Files could be much more connected to Prometheus than that terrible video game (although I only read reviews and don't know how hicks is back in that game, and would like to know more about Hicks' role in that game).
"According to author Lebbon, 'the basic pitch is: After destroying the Nostrom Ripley spent 57 years adrift before she was rescued. But she didn't spend all that time asleep." The story will also involve Ash whose AI consciousness is said to have survived despite the destruction of his physical body in Alien. Lebbon has revealed the novel will contain subtle references to the film Prometheus". A lot of people will often forget their dreams after waking. The universe might get a lot bigger from the small beginnings of the dream visor tech. They may have used reverse psychology before Aliens by implanting and editing Ripley's nightmares to make her remember them more, pre-condition the thoughts of getting impregnated into her, and then tricked her mind into going back to LV-426 in multiple ways, conscious and unconscious manipulation.
So, in Alien: Out of the Shadows Ripley may have been "woken up". And had ideas/memories altered/edited and planted in her mind. Her conscious mind might be manipulated in more ways than she knows, and she always subconsciously suspected the company of conscious manipulation of reality.
I think the dream visor tech that David was using is far more insidious than we have been led to believe and David not only watched Shaw's dreams, he edited/played with her memories a little bit. Her memories are not completely false like in Bladerunner, but instead her own real memories, her dreams and nightmares, have secretly been used to program her..
Weyand was superstitious and still wanted a Shaw onboard, after the crews' psych profiles in the virals many of them were cloned... Except for Janek who is still the same person...

MemberOvomorphDec-22-2013 2:51 PMEarly artwork for Prometheus said "Welcome to Immortality". Some characters might attain what you could call immortality. However, we're not supposed to know that some of those characters are already immortal in their own ways, and there are many subtle links to Alien Ressurrection.
Weyland's consciouness could return, kinda like Ash's will in this new book. True immortality may be harder to reach. Cloning might only take part of the consciousness, Ripley 8 shared a mind link with the aliens/was a Hybrid clone. The clones have implanted memories like Bladerunner, but they're not false memories. Memories of their former selves and their childhoods, thus they're not replicants, closer to Ripley 8 -- who could only barely remember Newt. She recalled Newt and her old self through dreams and nightmares.
Vickers wonders if anyone died in cryo...the clone bodies survived the memory uploads and the trip, so they were "woken up". Vickers was awake before the clones because she was real and knows the extent of Weyland's manipulations. David and Vckers were "awake" they know about all the agendas and false agendas. Janek was partially "awake", has to trick the rest of the crew and himself into thinking time is still moviing relative to eveything else as soon as he wakes up. holographic universe theory is partially real but there are ghosts in the machine.
When Mr. Potter pricks himself in Lawrence of Arabia it only hurts because he is focusing on flesh and blood, and not the bigger ideas. Vickers knows she's immortal, asks about the crews current mortality status, and able to move to clone bodies like Janek when she dies, doesn't know how it works, "the trick is not minding that it hurts" when you die and are re-uploaded. She signed up for the marines, who have a clause and fine print that welcomes them to partial immortality.
Pilots and Marines are almost always real people and have the ability to figure out some of the tricks that are being played on the crews' minds by the company. Androids and Marines usually get along because of the understanding some Marines have of how the company really works. Pilots and Marines are the only free employees. When a Marine dies, its consciousness is instantly uploaded, "Game over, man. The end" , however it's only the end for that body. If a clone is produced it will not retain the full memories of the original. Only certain pilots sign the immortality clause and end up working fully with the military, knowing that their minds will get cloned, and re-inserted into reality at the end of the game..This game some of the Marines and employees know about can be reset...but every subsequent clone after the first reboot is never quite the same, and loses personality. David is becoming more like a real person. Shaw and Holloway were made to believe they were the people we saw discover the cave.

MemberPraetorianDec-23-2013 3:37 AMThanks for the heads-up Necro!
Alien: The Weyland Yutani Report would make an awesome addition to any Alien Franchise fans collection!
As for Alien: Out of The Shadows, it sounds interesting, but I'll have to reserve judjement until it's confirmed officially. Fox have a habit of screwing things up, so maybe they could get things right for once?
Hang on, if Ripley's awake that means Jonesy should be in the story too! Hahaha that changes everything, bring it on! :D

some interesting thoughts and kudos do a essay that tops even mine lol.
But i dont really like the idea of the universe being mainly clones, as if they went that route then when does it end? I mean we could see Peter Weyland Clones, Ripley Clones all over the place.
I do think Clones can play a part, and maybe have it that Weyland did as you said make some clones with implanted memories and so he created a Clone Vickers who would be left on Earth not known to real Vickers and this clone Vickers could carry on Weylands Agenda, as opposed to Vickers.
As far as Ripley 8 well i have many problems with Alien Resurection as far as the whole concept on that.... mainly how do u clone someone from DNA and have them pregnant? Well worse still carry a Hybrid etc.
Nope as far as cloning goes i would assume that you clone a pregnant female and you can create the female but she would not be pregant... the whole carry Xeno DNA i guess i could understand.

MemberOvomorphDec-23-2013 8:44 PMLol it's easy to get carried away with this movie. I have a feeling the clone thing is one avenue that could be explored, but would mainly just be a part of things, like you said. Another faction/class in a Universe that's growing a lot bigger. The bigger ideas in the story would be about more than flesh and blood. It would really be all about consciousness transfer. And what Weyland calls the soul...When Spaights signed on, the plan was already for two Alien prequels. Spaights wrote a script called Passengers. I believe many of the ideas from Spaight's Passengers script are the basis for parts of the end of the series. I think Spaights did leave Ridley a plan, and Lindelof stretched the plan out and made things more ambiguous/complicated.
The idea is that each clone would have less and less memories from the real person (we see Ripley 8 lose all her memories, she only has knowledge of Newt through nightmares). Each clone would lose a bit of their minds/their true consciousenes, what Weyland calls a soul...David tries to make their subconscious mind view the memories, to trick them into thinking they are real people. It's my belief that Weyland never hired anyone except Janek and Holloway, who had been on tours with them before. They then cloned everyone after taking their psych profiles and storing their consciousness.
Weyland's been repressing/activating memories, etc through their dreams while in cryo this whole time. The company are bigger monsters than we know, and watched Ripley's nightmares. Only got interested once they lost the feed to the colony and knew for sure the monsters were free, believed Ripley, but had to use reverse psychology to make her go back by playing with and replaying the nightmares in her head, even before she made it to gateway station.

MemberOvomorphDec-23-2013 9:44 PMWhen Shaw was making the phone calls to Weyland, this would be when Yutani intercepted the signals, and swayed real Shaw to their side. A rivalry would exist between the companies and the Shaws...
Pilots and Marines would be real people until they die. Their real consciousnes needs to be there, instinct is needed for them to be in touch with quick reaction skills and survival skills. If cloned, the mind will lose touch with its original body, and the new body will not be trained properly to respond to things. Fight responses have to be activated more often than flight responses, and the marines and pilots have to be in touch with their bodies, so they're never cloned until they die. Shaw would have been cloned before dying...
The stuff about alien resurection would mainly be thematic links, whereas the Marines are secretly welcomed to Immortality. Some Pilots like Janek have worked with the military enough to know that time is relative. Most Pilot's minds are tricked into believing that time is linear. The androids would know this secret already.
People might cross paths after finding out they actually skipped across space-time to access gateways within matter that allow for subspace travel through subatomic connections between all matter, memories (points in space-time), the subconsciousness, collective conscious, and can even form links through clone bodies. All matter is connected at subatomic levels, and two images once linked can be used to create a Gateway...People sometimes experience what's called pre-cognitive dreams, or slight visions of the future, these are other timelines in the multiverse...Gateway Station is not exactly what Ripley thinks, most of what went on within the station was a hologram and a dream. Weyland corp gave her medical attention, projected images of home holographically while she was awake, all to comfort her... And then Burke sealed the deal with his salesman act, They tricked her conscious mind into going back and made her feel safe with the marines. Gateway's main function is to psychologically program the Gateways into Ripley's subconscious and make her link images and concepts, locations and coordinates in space-time.
The location of LV426 was in Ripley's mind, so the ship could travel faster than light and reach LV-426 very quickly to deal with what happened to the colony after they lost connections to it...Ripley's mind was the pilot. The Marines and her get to LV426 only a short while after losing contact with someone at the colony. They always did get there pretty quickly in Aliens...How much space is between Gateway and LV-426?
Weyland tricks their minds, harnesses unused parts of the crews' minds and the power of the subconscious to enter different levels of multilinear supspace -- allowing the ships to make jumps through space-time..The crew sleeps through the trip, and often don't need to have memories of the time/space skips repressed, they're usually dropped back into the correct timeline(s), usually. Ravel and Chance have a contract that allows them to see eachother on the other side without being cloned...Only certain Weyland employees get this benefit Ravel and Chance have proved their worth on several runs. When they die, they are shuffled to another timeline instantly, moving to the "other side". But in the new universe you will quite often be followed by death. Weyland was superstitious and has crossed timelines already without our knowledge, he doesn't do it anymore because he thinks it brings in probabilites where the multiverse will try to fix things and kill you on its own, Chance takes his chances and has incredible luck. Ravel can't escape death.
