Quote; Carlos Huante was not impressed by the Deacon’s dark blue skin and design changes from picture to film. “Why it was blue?” he said to AVPGalaxy. “I don’t know… The illustration was blue so as to emphasize its whiteness in a dark blue setting, and I was following some inspirational paintings that a contemporary Russian painter did of a man’s head that Arthur [Max] had sent me from Ridley. The creatures were all supposed to be albino. They were supposed to look simple, beautiful and ghostly, like a Beluga whale in dark Arctic water.”

He continues;

“I wish I could have stayed on to supervise the follow-through with the designs,” he explained further. “My biggest disappointment is that what I did got modified, of course. Any artist would say that. But I really thought they were going to make my Deacon, but for some really strange reason they went with the one from the storyboards which was not my character and not the design.”

Huante reckoned that the production took note from the film’s storyboards rather than his concept art. “The board artist illustrated it for the purposes of storytelling for the storyboards but not as the design,” he said. “The design of the actual Deacon was abandoned … I’m shaking my head as I write this.”- Carlos Huante.

I agree completely with Carlos! I would have loved to have seen his version of the "deacon/ultramorph" on the big screen! What the HELL was Ridley playing at?

Does it really matter that we're still making complaints about a creature that came out 1 year ago..Its not Carlos's movie its Ridley and if he didnt like it than he should've spoken up about it earlier. Hes a concept designer and the Deacons color shouldn't have had any problems so its blue who cares its here isnt it. One mans opinion does not change a movie for his own view of scary and creepy. Sorry I just had to say something its like we debate and then complain which one is more productive to our discussions and I say debate and speculate but not about what wen wrong.

We have to remember a lot of the concept art and work done by Giger, by Huante and many others was all mainly based and intended for use with Spaights Draft, even as far as 15ft Engineers....

Lindeloff and Ridley and Fox all sat down and wanted to tone down the Xeno influences, and that meant a redesign of some of the creatures and scenes...

The big question is does Ridley pick up of Spaights ideas that these Engineers Engineered the Xeno, or maybe they re-engineered some ancient lifeform they came across to produce a whole host of organisms including our traditional Xeno.

Spaights draft does seem to show us the Engineers had a great part in the creations of the Xenos and Eggs...

Lindeloffs and the final movie and its clues, seems to show us they was conducting experiments maybe on Xenos to create a new Bio Weapon.

Well the engineers were conducting experiments as shown by the mural. Humans were doing the same thing in other movies with the Xenos. Its been a common theme among all of the movies. They want to control it. in the AvP comics a group of Predators actually did domesticate the xenos. I dont think Ridley will bring in the Predators but who knows. If the Xenos were created as a weapon then why would they use that on us? Humans were primitive and they could of just threw us around at will. Makes no sense. Could they have been waging war with another race? The xenos also have similarties to engineers which makes me think that they did create them. Then again we bare a rememblence to the engineers...so are all three races interwined?

Of course it matters. Some people liked, even loved the deacon design. However, for me, the aesthetic/design of a monster, in a monster film, is VERY important!

For those who liked/loved the design, great, brilliant, but personally i prefer the Giger aesthetic! :)

Myself...

I think the Deacon as far as Shaws Baby was simply a plot device to show a connection between the Goo in the Urns, the Engineers and the Xeno.

It is a hybrid and has Alien and Human DNA from its Face Huger Stage.

I would say that the Deacon on the Mural would be more Giger than Shaws Baby Deacon.

Will we see the Deacon again? Not sure.

I do think Ridley will show us some horrific new Montser in the franchise at some point because David will unleash what ever Bio Weapon the Juggernaught he was flying is carrying, and i am sure Ridley and Fox have taken note of comments regarding the Monsters in Prometheus and the Orginal Alien Franchise so i expect some changes that will give us something more Giger than what we saw in Prometheus but not quite OLD SCHOOL Xeno!

I know the design matters but I was just saying that if it was a white color than it probably wont work as far as camoflage goes most of the interiors and exteriors had a dark color hue. He would be useless and would stand out like a sore thumb. The blue color works because of the surrounding environment like the Engineers ship and inside the pyramid. Necro maybe the Deacon will have some more biomech-xeno look later on as it evolves into something terrifying and eerie.

@Anu; i get what you are saying. However, it's not the colour of the thing that bothers me (As i'm colour blind,) but the actual design.

Maybe it is just in it's infant stage and will evolve into something else?

Also, it wasn't until i bought Prometheus The Art of the Film, that i found out the deacon was blue-ish and i believe that the engineers have a slight hue of blue aswell.

I didnt know that you were color blind at all, I just thought it was the blue that you were speaking about. I do infact like the white beluga hues its just that I was getting into the blending in aspect like from the first Alien. Thats an awesome graphic design program and your deacon looks scary and freaky-good job. Oh I got the Prometheus Art of the Film as well and man its awesome, cool, bada**, tight, sick, and overall...Great! :)
