MemberFacehuggerJan-05-2014 6:11 PMThis is my first thread of 2014, and wishing everyone a Happy New Year. I don’t know about everyone else, but I have spent a large amount of time over the festive season overdosing on Sci-fi movies. This has resulted in me revisiting some old ground and taking in some older films as well as the new.
I think I have lost count the amount of times I have watched certain movies, but now and then I like to watch a series of movies back to back just for the hell of it.
I recommend watching Species, then Prometheus, and Alien in that order. What surprised me was how much the film Species fits into the whole Alien / Prometheus storyline.
Just to put Species a little bit more under the spotlight, Giger’s opinion of the movie at the time was that it had been influenced and taken too many elements from the Alien franchise. It is also interesting that this was made before Prometheus, but upon watching it again it occurred to me that the storyline works as a prequel to Prometheus, even though this was never the intention.
The most significant points that jumped out imo were;
A transmission of unknown origin presents information on how to manipulate DNA
The female lifeform SIL uses a cocoon to mature
Gigers chestburster ideas were used
Experimenting with the alien dna coding produces unpredictable mutation
Although Species is not considered to be part of the Alien franchise/storyline, but because Prometheus has since come along, imo it does fit in.
Any thoughts?
