MemberFacehuggerJan-05-2014 6:11 PMThis is my first thread of 2014, and wishing everyone a Happy New Year. I don’t know about everyone else, but I have spent a large amount of time over the festive season overdosing on Sci-fi movies. This has resulted in me revisiting some old ground and taking in some older films as well as the new.
I think I have lost count the amount of times I have watched certain movies, but now and then I like to watch a series of movies back to back just for the hell of it.
I recommend watching Species, then Prometheus, and Alien in that order. What surprised me was how much the film Species fits into the whole Alien / Prometheus storyline.
Just to put Species a little bit more under the spotlight, Giger’s opinion of the movie at the time was that it had been influenced and taken too many elements from the Alien franchise. It is also interesting that this was made before Prometheus, but upon watching it again it occurred to me that the storyline works as a prequel to Prometheus, even though this was never the intention.
The most significant points that jumped out imo were;
A transmission of unknown origin presents information on how to manipulate DNA
The female lifeform SIL uses a cocoon to mature
Gigers chestburster ideas were used
Experimenting with the alien dna coding produces unpredictable mutation
Although Species is not considered to be part of the Alien franchise/storyline, but because Prometheus has since come along, imo it does fit in.
Any thoughts?

MemberOvomorphJan-05-2014 10:57 PMSpecies was a good movie for a 1994 movie but imo its does have small amounts like the cocoon sequence and the biomech creature but other than that I cant draw any similarities from it. SIL was made with DNA already here but the ET formula had a horrible outcome because they didnt know what the results would be. No alien ever set foot on Earth in that movie only the instruction on how mutate a creature into a super fast killer. Maybe it does share more than I thought like the killer creature and wanting to breed ASAP.
The Anunnaki were on the earth in those days--and also afterward--when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, mighty men of high reno

MemberDeaconJan-06-2014 8:43 AMThe movie is only connecting in DNA manipulation, so not really connected as it is not so close to how the Goo in Prometheus Works..
But SIL was based of Giger work and i would like to see some similar Giger-ish Organisms in Paradise.

AdminPraetorianJan-07-2014 11:09 AMThe main plot point of 'Species' was not about mutation, but rather splicing Alien and Human DNA together, instructed on how to do so by seemingly benevolent Aliens (It's implied those same Aliens donated the Extraterrestrial DNA to the Human Scientists). She is indeed half/part Alien, so yes I see the connection Batchpool is trying to make.
'During the SETI program, Earth's scientists send out transmissions with information about Earth and its inhabitants, DNA structure, etc., in hopes of finding life beyond Earth. They then receive transmissions from an alien source on how to create endless fuel effortlessly. Therefore, the scientists assume that this is a friendly alien species. From a second alien transmission, the scientists receive information about an alien DNA along with instructions on how to splice it with human DNA. A government team led by Xavier Fitch (Ben Kingsley) goes forward with the genetic experiment hoping to induce a female with "more docile and controllable" traits. One of the hundred experimental ova produces a girl named Sil, who looks like a normal human but develops into a 12-year old in 3 months.' - Source: Species (film)

I love the movie 'Species'. I had SIL as an avatar for the first year I was here on site. Here is one of my favorite videos of Giger working on 'Species'. A lot of the designs he used were intended for 'Alien3', like the female design and mouth, etc.

"The main plot point of 'Species' was not about mutation, but rather splicing Alien and Human DNA together"
Certainly Svanya, sorry for no reply back then... but when we see Mutations in Prometheus, these were the results of the Black Goo Splicing Xenomorph related DNA to other Organic Life. The Black Goo Certainly acted as a DNA Splicing Tool... i still stand by this take on it even to this day.
We have to wonder about Davids.. Queen!
We have seen evidence of the Queen Connection via utilizing Dr Shaws Reproductive System and Egg Cells in Alien Covenant, we have seen Xenomorph Queens in Aliens and other movies. What we have not seen is a Human that is infected to become a Hybrid of Human/Xenomorph DNA... well we kind of did with Alien Resurrection but that Queen just looked like a normal Xenomorph Queen.
David wanted to Evolve Dr Shaw, she refused.... i wonder if Davids Ambition would be met in future and see Daniels turned into a Hybrid Egg Birthing Queen.. Some of the Dr Shaw concepts were pretty good for Alien Covenant, i feel a mixture between these and Sil from Species would be interesting.
