AdminPraetorianMar-06-2014 7:53 PMIt's canon I believe, sadly. Just like that other game whose name I refuse to mention.

MemberDeaconMar-07-2014 7:01 AMI dont think it will be used as canon the only things that they use as canon is in the movies.
You see the thing with those games is it leaves a lot of i dont know if you call them plot holes, maybe thats not the right word. But show you that from these events in those games the company knows much much much more than what they appear to do with Aliens.
So i would not consider them as Canon but just based as being set in same Universe like a Alternative reality.

I would like to comment further about what the company knew and is not telling the rest of us right now.
I think BigDave is right. This Weylan Yutani company has been messing with us for a long time. Of course they know much much much much much much much, much much much more than we ever thought possible. That is how they can make these games cause we do know for sure and if we don’t they probably don’t know for sure either or at the very least they don’t want to tell us.
So there have it, this probably most definitely is cannon, but be can’t be sure.
I think it is too early to say if this is cannon or not!

MemberNeomorphMar-07-2014 5:54 PMI second what BigDave said. I can remember reading something a while back, where there was a debate about what should be considered canon (on another site which was made up of film critics and others in the media.)
They came to the conclussion that only what is shown in film and in the novel or screenplay that a film is based on, should be considered canon and i agree.
I think these games are marketed has "Canon" for promotional reasons and nothing else.
The poster was good though!

MemberDeaconMar-08-2014 2:47 PMWell they are listed as canon, because they follow on the Story of Alien and Aliens as far as Alien Isolation and Colonial Marines goes. They are set as in a what happened next but they are done in a alternative universe way. As if like a another dimension if you would like the theory that while i type this there is another alternative me in another parallel universe who instead of me turn on my Computer 20 minutes ago, turned on a Xbox instead etc.
By that these games do not have to mean they are what we must accept as far as the Movie franchise to had happened after Alien and Aliens.
I think they could fit as true canon depends on what clues are left behind after the events, for example at time of Alien 3 there seem little clues left behind in the movie to any events that happened in Colonial Marines after Aliens..... Why would the company go after Ripley in Alien 3 if indeed the Derelict was not destroyed after the events of Aliens.
So if Alien Isolation at the end leaves little or no evidence or clues left that people would known about in Aliens, thus only a few in the company knew what happened in the events of Isolation and then they knew about the Derelict but went ahead with building a Colony in Aliens purely in the hope that the Xeno would cause a outbreak and the company can set out to then reap the rewards i.e Bio Weapon Sample.
Then yes it could fit in as direct Canon to the Movie Franchise, but i dont consider Colonial Marines to as explained above.

MemberOvomorphMar-08-2014 9:10 PMif it is canon the 'makers' of the game better be careful becuase we don't know what is to come in the next two Prometheus films. Canon or not Canon aside i think that this may be the Alien game that alot of us have been waiting for.
Ripley Clone 8
MemberOvomorphMar-09-2014 12:25 PMNo I don't believe its canon. Its just a video game not a film. Not only that but after the dibocal that is Aliens Colonial Marines I don't think it would classified as canon.

MemberDeaconMar-10-2014 7:19 AMWell its as i said when tehy say Canon they are meaning that its set in the same universe and is set as a event that happenes after or before events in the movies so the games are going as Canon to the Movies as they are following the events of the movies.
But just because the Games are being Canon to the Movies, does not mean the events are Canon as in the Movies events follow what happens in this games.
So is the Game going to be Canon to the movie... YES as far as the Game Universe being set as Canon to follow and based itself off the movies.
But most likely NO as far as the Movies events so Alien - Aliens - Alien 3 - Alien Resurection timeline of connected events as far as onscreen the Game most likely wont be Canon, only way would be how well they do with the Game and its Plot.
Alien Colonial Marines i would not consider as Canon because they seem to show us that the Xeno Hive and Derelict remained intact after Aliens in which case if the Company could not get a specimen by then, why would they go after Ripley in Alien 3. Also although only a Easter Egg, the game seems to show us that the Engineers who ws at the start of Prometheus in their Saucer Shape Ships was at war with another fraction who was the LV 223 Engineers and their Horseshoe shaped Ships, which we can not be sure is the case.
