MemberOvomorphMay-30-2014 4:16 PMI think we're able to agree that Alien vs Predator: Requiem was a terrible movie. Almost no plot at all, horrible acting mostly, simply throw explosions onto the scene to earn cash, NO! That's not how a proper movie is made. But Alien vs Predator 1 on the other hand, was a success. An engineering of the finest. And here's why.
I notice Alien vs Predator getting alot of hate due to the aliens/predators being tied together with ancient civilizations on earth. I see why not? Earth was a planet filled with intelligent and obeing lifeforms, something perhaps hard to come by in the galaxy.
Aliens being weak and target practice = That's is a completly uneccesarry comment. Predators, regarding the name, are predators. Hunting is a sport and their goal in life. They've been hunting several civilizations (as seen in Predator 2) for millions of year. Why wouldn't The Aliens be among those? And they're absolutely not week i can tell you. Yes during the flashback showing The Predators getting overwhelmed by thousands of Aliens aren't weak. They managed to kill the predators, but they aren't smart enough to deactivate a nuclear device. No species but the Predator are. And remember the Fight Scene? It's strong "and" intelligent. Even managed to kill the Predator. Especially when the Alien began bleeding acid, it used it for it's own advantage by throwing it against the Predator. That's not dumb.
Mostly focused on humans: Yes, i see this ain't a strong site of the movie. But it requires a plot, i myself couldn't find a better.
Human/Predator relation = This part i like very much. They're in need of escaping, and the only way to survive is teamwork. The Predators has been cooporating for ages (Hence the aztecs), why wouldn't they do it again? Yes they may be vicious, destructive animals, but that doesn't make them less open for opportunities. Ofcourse it could've killed "Lex" when the fight was over, but that'd be stupid. She gained it's trust.
But these are simply my viewpoints why it's a perfect film, even my favorite in the franchise (Maybe because i grew up with it). I'm welcome to chritisism. And apologies about the english if i'm having some grammar mistakes. I'm danish you see.

MemberOvomorphMay-30-2014 4:48 PMAvP is a lazy cashgrab by Fox. As someone invested in the Alien franchise, I say without an ounce of hesitation that it is non-canon and impossible to take seriously, therefore non-existent.

MemberFacehuggerMay-30-2014 7:45 PMIn isolation of the Alien franchise as a whole I can accept Alien vPredator as a half decent monster flick, but in isolation only. It was certainly a cash grab, but did provide some good points of entertainment as an isolated project. I felt it was an alternative re-hash of predators 2 to be honest. There were some good ideas in the film but , my biggest problem was that the whole movie subdues the impact of the xenos, which places them as a 2nd class predatorial organism. I don’t like that, period.
It takes away the mythology built up through the Alien canon and belittles the whole xeno concept.

MemberFacehuggerMay-30-2014 8:01 PMJust to add on the whole premise of Predators v Aliens. The xeno is treated as an inferior from the word go. There is no mystery to its predatorial instinct. There is an assumption that the Predators actually stand a chance and are superior. That is the whole basis of the movie with regards to the Alien /Predator relationship.. I want to see the xeno come out on top, not reduced to some 2nd class prey.
Fair enough on the human /predator relationship. That was a good thing for the movie, but the entire film would have worked just as well with a different type of alien other than a xeno. Now that really hits gets to the point. Did Alien v Predator really sell itself on the back of Predator or Alien ?

MemberOvomorphMay-30-2014 8:35 PMNot to mention the horrible design of the creature in AVP, just like a regular animal from the jungle. This is not the horror nightmare created by Giger. I mean, Where is the prison of the human soul?

MemberOvomorphMay-30-2014 8:57 PMMoreover, in Alien and Prometheus there is no cannon fodder, and that is the reason of why Ridley Scott is the only one who understands the true essence of this threat.

MemberNeomorphMay-31-2014 2:27 AMI agree with Shambs. That shite should never have been made! It's an insult to the PROPER fans of the ALIEN/Prometheus universe. I say that all copies should be destroyed, asap!
The poster was good though!

MemberFacehuggerMay-31-2014 3:59 AMAvp is fun if you can get over your prejudices. But just plainly not on the same level add the originals so can't be Canon for me...Even prometheus I struggle with but it is by Ridley so unfortunately it had to be Canon.

MemberOvomorphMay-31-2014 6:07 AMPretending i didnt hear that DJ...lol. AVP was rough, yes. Terrible acting, goofy characters, easily dispatched Xeno's, etc, but it was still a much better watch than Resurrection!!
that is what we should focus on destroying!!
RESTORE THE TRILOGY BABY!! DEATH TO RESURRECTION!!

MemberOvomorphMay-31-2014 2:39 PMI've never seen AVP and would like to, just for the fun of it. But for me the Predators just don't fit, too flashy by half. The Alien universe is definitely best left in Ridleys hands, whether or not we agree with all his choices. Without having seen it, I'm still pretty comfortable saying AVP is certainly run of the mill scI fi, and for the Alien universe I want the holiest of grails, cerebral, artful space horror. Not action. Not anything remotely connected to Arnold Schwarzenegger. No disrespect to Predator, I liked it just fine. But then, I was but a lad when I saw it.

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2014 12:45 AMNo keep Alien/Prometheus separate when it comes to the films and AVP really should have stayed a comic book. I thought the first one was ok but whe Lex and Scar Predator start running together it got really ridiculious and laughable.
The Anunnaki were on the earth in those days--and also afterward--when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, mighty men of high reno

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2014 2:35 AMIn some ways Humans and the Predators are similar. They have to eat, they get tired and need to sleep. Predators seem to be slow moving, a bit clumsy and they're posey.
Where as the xeno is faster, uses more sleath and is covered with weapons. Maybe in the right circumstances where the predator is aware of the alien and is prepared for confrontation . Only in those conditions the predator has a reasonible chance of success. But in any other circumstances it will be fodder for a xeno.

AdminPraetorianJun-03-2014 9:48 AMIt's not deluded hate at all, people feel it was a cash grab by the studios and that it dumbed down a franchise. Keep in mind most that hate AVP also hate Alien Resurrection. (My own personal opinion is AVP was ok but AVP Requiem was just embarassing, really it was a pile of crap)
We have an AVP forum, not sure why you would choose to post this here intstead of there:

MemberOvomorphJun-05-2014 12:27 AMi have to say that I didnt mind AVP1. The movie looked great. Beautiful effects and I didnt mind the script and or story. The comics for AVP had been around for years, so I expected and hoped for a good film. What I didnt like could have been easilly fixed....
Timing. Instead of 10 minute pyramid layout changes why not 10 hours? This would have added dread, horror at being trapped and would have allowed a more Canon growh timeline for the Xeno's.
The Queen was a little big, but at least she was pretty much true to Canon. And perhaps as she was over 100 years old so maybe had grown huge.
I agree that the warriors were a little animal like. Not upright and human enough.
The super long tail which seems to be extendible.....
Having said that I loved the one on one fight scene.
the Preds were clumsy and too bulky too....
I loved the hugger scenes though, fantastic slow mo action.....
I think AVP2 was the cash grab. Too Dark, terrible xenos.... I absolutely hated the Predalian. What a missed oportunity for a new Xeno horror creation. Too fleshy, too heavy and ungracefull. Totally Bgrade in my book... Dont start me on the throat eggs.......
