MemberOvomorphJan-14-2015 7:15 PMStats according to Box Office Mojo:
Prometheus $130,000,000 budget. World box office gross $403,000,000
The Councelor $25,000,000 budget. World BO gross $71,000,000
Exodus $140,000,000 budget, world BO $230,000,000 gross (so far)
All three movies have had a mixed reception, and they don't (or probably won't) win many awards. But the numbers seem to look good in terms of profit.
So when it comes time for the studio to set a budget for P2, will they enthusiatically grant a big budget (say $150 million plus) or will they get nervous and pare it down to a much smaller budget? Given all the Prometheus haters out there, I wonder how much investment the studio would be willing to take on.

MemberOvomorphJan-15-2015 6:52 AMIt won't cost less than Prometheus. Sequels always cost more, give or take a few exceptions (Pirates of the Caribbean 4 cost less than the third, which is the most expensive film ever).

MemberDeaconJan-15-2015 3:23 PMI would say the aim for Movies is to double its budget and thats considered a good return, anything much less and companies would be not so keen on doing a sequel.
Lucky enough Prometheus made about 3x its money and some of his recent movies likewise.
As far as Budget goes, then really its down to FOX, but i would assume they would be looking at about $200M as FOX have given the Green Light and will likely be giving Ridley a lot of trust in pulling off this movie, and to them its more about how much they rake in as oppossed to the reception of the movie.
if the Budget is $200M and it makes back $450M+ then it does not matter if the puplic was disapointed and if the movie does not give some any clues to what happened in Prometheus or Alien series but ends up just about David and Shaw on a planet with a new race and little to do with the Engineers as far as covering back story that link them to the Space Jockey, LV 223 or Earth. If the film makes money then thats what counts.
Likewise if the movie becomes one that Prometheus and Alien fans enjoy and a movie that matches Alien and Aliens and surpases Prometheus for us, but it only makes about $300 or less on a $200 budget and God forbit if it dont break even then Fox would be reluctant to do a 3rd movie.

MemberDeaconJan-16-2015 7:57 AMAgreed i cant see it being less than $150M and more than $200M so maybe i was a bit over enthusiastic with $200M so maybe a $150-170 could be about the ball park they would be playing in.
Not much is known so far, only two Cast Members casted and we ca safely assume that Ian Whyte would be cast be that as Engineer, or even a man in the suit of a new kind of monster or race.
so polt details are a bit scarce and they would give us clues to roughly what kind of budget we are looking at...
