AdminPraetorianMar-02-2015 8:32 AMWell of course it's not Rilpey 8. It's just Ripley after the events of Aliens, from cryosleep. No Alien 3 and No Alien Resurrection. That's the whole point of Alien5, to reboot the franchise and remove Alien3 and Resurrection from the storylines.
Chris posted the news here: Alien 5 will not undo Alien 3 or Alien Resurrection, says Director Neill Blomkamp

MemberOvomorphMar-02-2015 2:39 PMThey'd better find a good pretext for having Ripley going off into space again after the events of Alien and especially Aliens--when she was promised she'd just be an advisor protected by a military escort--only to basically do the second movie over again and not be distrustful of anyone saying that they'd like to go check out the Alien homeworld.
Don't get me wrong, I'm fine with the idea of undoing Alien 3 and Resurrection as long as they keep the character of Ellen Ripley consistent. They just are going to have to come up with a reason for Ripley to go into space again considering that now that Weaver is a grandma means that Ripley would have to be out of cryosleep for about 30 years by the time of Alien 5 (or is it still considered 3 now? haha).
This implies that Ripley went on with her life after awakening from cryosleep and aged and if what I understand about going to the Alien homeworld is correct, would mean some corporate douche-hole (a la Carter Burke) would have to convince her yet again to go into space to deal with the aliens when Ripley clearly wanted nothing to do with them at the start of Aliens in the first place.
But none of it really matters; they want to make a movie with old actors and most people outside of the target demographic don't remember or care about the old movies anyway.

MemberOvomorphMar-03-2015 3:17 AMHey XenoTron - Perhaps there maybe some revelation regarding Ripleys original family (Daughter who wasreported dead to her, decendants of her daughter, sons, daughters, grandkids and so on) could be revealed. Perhaps the searching could be from Hicks and long-lost members of his family line that he has discovered information about. Newt also could have family members outside her immidiate family who she lost on Ancheron who want to know where she is. I think of Flight of the Navigator when I think of the rest of the crew waking up decades later and everybody they knew before is either a heck of a lot more older or dead. Ripleys already been through this once already so now with the others going through the same ordeal it brings it home to them more so what she went through. Shes now got to endure it again, twice compared to the're only having experienced it once.

MemberPraetorianMar-03-2015 3:22 PM....to clone, or not to clone......that is the question.......XD
This story has got to be different, and has to be great....otherwise it's just Ripley Rides (Yet) Again!
