Alien: Paradise Lost will apparantly be called: Alien: Covenant (working title perhaps?)

MemberOvomorphNov-14-2015 1:29 AMSeems the concept of finding singular words for the continuation of the Prometheus franchise has other names included within the development... Alien: Covenant now is a considered title over Alien: Paradise Lost.
Don't forget Prometheus was at one time called: Alien: Engineers...
I'm wondering if there will be just singular names used (i.e) ....
Prometheus
Covenant
Titans (or) Engineers
Paradise
Paradise Lost (or) Alien: Paradise Lost (the closer
we get to the "back-door" of Alien...

MemberFacehuggerNov-14-2015 12:21 PMAt this stage in the proceedings it would not surprise me if there are more name changes. The problem at the moment is that we are all playing a waiting game until something emerges that is going to be a solid title. Paradise Lost and Covenant are certainly titles that can hint at the possible direction things may take. Maybe we could go back to Alien:Zero as a title. Fortunately, given when shooting starts, which is not that far off now, we will get to know something that puts a certain amount of speculation to rest and be able to debate the direction of the final title.

MemberXenomorphNov-15-2015 8:28 AM'Alien:Covenant' Doesn't really grab me. I'd like them to go with a single word title or something really Alien and strange.
I'd like 'Prometheus II' ahead of 'Alien:Covenant'
I still like 'Alien:Paradise Lost' the best.

MemberOvomorphNov-15-2015 11:29 AMWondering, due-to-the-fact that John Miltons Paradise Lost is copyrighted, therefore, Ridley Scott is not allowed to use the title within his title because it is too close to sounding like the original and perhaps the current copyright holders feel there is a bit of copyright infringment that is pitentially sullying the original works...

MemberOvomorphNov-15-2015 7:12 PMThe title Alien: Paradise Lost made sense because of its connection to Prometheus (which itself was almost called Paradise. But Alien: Covenant doesn't seem to connect with anything except the Alien franchise in the most generalized sense.
I suspect Hypernova is onto something. There is some commercial reason Paradise Lost couldn't be used. But Alien: Covenant doesn't sound very marketable. How can anyone get excited over that title? So it may just be a placeholder title while they continue to scratch their heads and toss ideas around. Hopefully they settle on something better. The movie title was a very contentious issue with Prometheus as well. Here we go again. Multiple writers and now multiple titles.

MemberChestbursterNov-16-2015 9:19 AMYeah I just saw on the official Alien facebook page that it is titled Alien: Covenant! I like Paradise Lost better, but we will if the name changes again or not.
Also on the Alien facebook post the synopsis for Covenant is as follows:
"Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS -- and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world -- whose sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition. ?#Alien?"
So, they are going to use the same formula as Alien and Prometheus and go with a ship lands on planet, then bad things happen. Hmm, hopeulyl we get at least some flashbacks of Shaw and David's early adventures! I know Shaw is signed on, so she will be in the movie, but I was excited to see the misadventures of Shaw and David on Paradise! Still, this premise looks veeery promising!

MemberXenomorphNov-16-2015 11:31 AMDon't mind the title 'Alien: Covenant' as much....now that we know it's the name of a spaceship. (Why would you name a ship Covenant?)
No Elizabeth Shaw is the bigger story.
Let the Graphic artists begin the cool movie posters!

MemberDeaconNov-17-2015 3:44 PMYes this is interesting and puzzling, i was going to reply the Other day but i have been busy...
What connection Covenant would mean... (this was before confirmed as the name of a Ship) the only way i could see such a connection when fitting with what happened in Prometheus and the Paradise Lost connection was that Covenant is basically a Agreement, which can extend to a Treaty/Pact or a Contract/Guarantee.
How can this relate to Paradise Lost and Prometheus... well i thought of only a few..
1) Agreement Between Engineers (or Hierarchy) and Mankind... Pretty Much Like God had made in the Bible with Noah and also and especially Mosses. But it could also refer to like Adam and Eve and the rules they was given for living in the Garden of Eden....
And thus a movie where some Agreement and Rules had been made, but then Broken!
2) Same as above but a Covenant between Engineers and the Hierarchy or other Engineers, that again is maybe Broken!
3) A Pact Between Satan and the Fallen Angels to give up their place in Paradise, by Rebeling against God and after getting cast out... then Satan makes a Pact with his Fallen Angels to better Rule in Hell than Serve in Heaven and vow to corrupt Gods chosen Creation.
And in all instances... how breaking the Covenant/Rebelling against God/Hierarchy has dire consequences.
There could be a few other ways Covenant would connect... not only to Paradise Lost but in the main, those 3 are the most covered types of Covenant that we see in the Bible/Paradise Lost and how they could relate to the Prometheus Franchise...
But what it means now... is anyones guess... yes its a Ship... but Prometheus was too but behind the name of Prometheus there was underlying themes the movie was hinting at that relate to the Tale of Prometheus... the Titan... but this was done in a symbolic way and vague..

Veteran MemberMemberOvomorphNov-17-2015 5:58 PM@BigDave interesting analysis...definitey there's a play on words here, that the loss of paradise was perhapse do to a broken covenant. An Alien Convenant or Just ALIEN then Convenant? Maybe it's not a broken agreement! Got me thinking about the story of Adam's creation and the Devil's jealousy.

MemberOvomorphNov-18-2015 6:49 AMDon't forget there was "The Ark Of The Covenant" if you remeber your Raiders Of The Lost Ark and of course scripture from the Bible if you believe in that sort of thing.
If the "Covenant" is in direct relation to a ship as it was with the Prometheus then perhaps there is more of a direct/indirect connotation and implied meaning to the alleged powers contained within the chest that supposedly carried within it the actual Ten Commandments.
Perhaps the ship: Covenant carries within it certain powers/energies that puts it on-par with the Ark Of The Covenant itself!......
.... (Possibilities?) ....

MemberXenomorphNov-19-2015 5:50 AMMaybe we(the Prometheus)broke the covenant...desecrating their holy grounds on LV223? Defiling the temple?

MemberDeaconNov-23-2015 4:01 PMCovenant will be a theme.. like Prometheus... its not going to be purely a Name of a Ship, it must imply something bigger...

MemberDeaconNov-23-2015 4:11 PMIts not appearing on here... but here is a thread i made regarding Alien: Covenant and some comments Micheal Biehn made that could shed some light on Promethues Part 2 AKA Alien Covenant and indeed back up that maybe as i was told in March the next movie has and tackles 3 different Plots...
