Black goo lakes
Centauri
MemberPraetorianAug-30-2016 6:51 PMI know this is far fetched....
but what if theres reservoirs or lakes containing the black goo like oil leak pits...did it get so out of control that theres little lakes and pits on the planet?
Will the covenant crew stumble upon it and change into all sorts of xenomorph freakazoids...?

MemberFacehuggerSep-02-2016 8:20 AMHmmm. Yeah the effects of black goo on other organic or inorganic material. That is the key question when you think about how we got to the xeno.
I think the comics brushed upon it a bit, as the black goo creating lush jungles and so forth.
I find the comics or illustrated novels a bit hard to follow. Although I really enjoy visual presentation, I guess I'm still old school and prefer to read the story and use my own imagination.
But as to the black stuff, this is the stolen "fire" so to speak; the basic building blocks of creation. I think the concept of it having an effect on inorganic material, in conjunction with organic material creates the abomination.
While some may think this is a too convenient way of bridging the gap between reality and sci-fi, it will work as good as any plot device until/if we understand the actual science.

MemberDeaconSep-15-2016 6:31 AMThe movie Prometheus and Comics Fire and Stone, do show us that the Black Goo when it is activated from being in its stable and contained state to when it starts to ooze out of those Urns..
They show that the Substance expands in volume, Prometheus to a lesser degree... but we dont know how many Urns a Juggernaught can hold.... and so if there are hundreds or thousands that have their contents spilled.... then yes there is the potential for them to form a small oil slick like lake.
We dont know however how long the Black Goo remains before it evaporates away.... but i would assume eventually it would do so.

MemberDeaconSep-15-2016 6:35 AMAlien Covenant has a Scene of Disaster/Punishment and we cant be sure if this is a Scene that is on Paradise... or if its also a Flash Back Scene or a Scene after some event David 8 creates.
I would assume its on Paradise and in the long distant past, and the Humanoids are covered in dried black substance/dust or dirt as if they had been in a Muddy Bath... its hard to work out exactly but it could be the after effects of the Black Goo.... the shots dont show much but CGI could fill in the gaps...
So i dont expect evidence of large spillage of Black Goo found by the crew of the Covenant... i do think there would be some in the Urns that gets loose though.
