MAJOR SPOILER ALERT (hypothetically) This is not the Engineer's home world.

I'm thinking that David found the Engineer's home world thus fulfilling his promise to Shaw , let whatever events play out with her and the engineers , immersed himself in their civilization as evidenced by his sacrificial Engineers cloak , and upon learning all that he could glean from the Engineer's elders , fled the planet because of an unfortunate planet ending incident that he might or might not have been the perpetrator of , or possibly a civil war between different religious or political sects. If the Covenant crew just happen to stumble upon the Engineer's home world , wouldn't their ships personnel , who are familiar with terra-forming , and equipped with products to substain terra-forming be able to find evidence of the Engineer's civilization via a footprint left behind after their demise ? The Engineer's don't have dwellings, governmental / religious buildings , landing fields , labs , etc ? How can a whole society disappear without a trace ? And upon encountering proof of an alien civilization , even if extinct , that would reset some of the Covenant crews priorities to investigate and our resources into furthering the company's knowledge of this priceless discovery , along with advanced technology. That's not the Engineer's home world.
I think that he might of escaped from the Engineer's home world after unleashing hell on them , and then he and Shaw head to the planet that the Covenant crew is headed to , that he knows Weyland Yutani has terra-formed and is sending a colonization ship to , patiently donning his lab jacket (Sacrificial Engineer cloak) , waiting patiently for his test subjects to enter the planet's solar system after awakening from hyper sleep , with Weyland Yutani being complicit by covertly allowing David to continue with his directive of investigating any alien contact to further the company's agenda , possibly overtly in tandem with Walter.
The Engineer's are beings capable of interstellar travel via technology advanced enough to utilize wormholes , terra-form dozens , hundreds , thousands of planets and make them habitable , and a plethora of other abilities such as gene manipulation , staying in hypersleep for thousands of years , etc. and yet we are to believe that they only inhabit one planet in one solar system and are summarily wiped out ? Maybe. If they are unable to reproduce perhaps or are being exterminated themselves by superior might.
I hope we get a three dimensional portrayal of the Engineer's and their history and culture , because I absolutely think Alien is a sci-fi masterpiece and also loved prometheus , actually more then any film in the Alien franchise with the exception of the original Alien , so you can have both Prometheus scope and science with Aliens horror and grittines hopefully in the upcoming movies. Also , I'm not focusing on what the people involved in the movie are saying , rather what they aren't saying , and I want to be the first to say thay "MAJOR SPOILER ALERT" Danny McBride is a synthetic person ! He's doing a dumb smart cowboy Ash , looking so unlike what you expect in a synthetic. Why do companies with multi-trillion dollars worth of assets in play not send in fail safes in the form of back-up artificial people ? And the spores fit into David knowingly seeding the planet not only with face huggers , but upping the game as he was directed to in his original programming via experimentation. Or maybe he is Peter Pan , think about it , the theme song Nature Boy speaks about finding love at the end of the boy's journey , I believe . What if either through the Engineer's or another means , such as being programmed in such a way that he had less inhibitors than later models of synthetics such as Cal and Bishop , he actually gained a semblance of actual sentience both mentally and possibly emotionally , what if he or Walter is the proverbial father of the bio mechanical xenomorph ? Though I see more of a resemblance with the Xenomorphs and the original space jockey ie Engineer type suit.
