Artists and designers whose work easily lends itself to Science Fiction film have always proved particularly interesting to me. H.R Giger, Jean 'Moebius' Giraud, Syd Mead, Ron Cobb, Chris Foss, Jim Burns, to name but a few.

Many of you will have heard of Alex 'Gutalin' Kozhanov and will be familiar with his concept work for PROMETHEUS. He is a freelance artist living in Kalinigrad, Russia.

Gutalin specializes in impossibly detailed matte paintings and concept art which embody a biomechanical, industrial atmosphere and are heavily influenced by the style of H.R Giger. I am a massive fan of both Giger and Gutalin.

There are many artists who have been influenced by H.R Giger, Zadislaw Beksinski, M.C.Escher and the writings of H.P Lovecraft, but few are as accomplished and detail oriented as Gutalin. I think his work has the most incredibly fine detail and it's dark industrial beauty is both hypnotic and intense.

Gutalin is a character from the classic 70's Russian Science Fiction novel Roadside Picnic by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky. The character enters alien contaminated zones on Earth in search of dangerous alien artifacts.

Andrej Tarkovsky's film Stalker was loosely based on the novel.

You can view more of his concept work for PROMETHEUS which includes Juggernaut and Engineer designs at AvPGalaxy and other works on his own website THE ART OF ALEX KOZHANOV GUTALIN and his DeviantArt page Gutalin

Thanks so much for posting this Lone! Alex Kozhanov is a remarkable artist. I've seen a lot of his work all over the net and it always impresses me. He's got a very good grasp of that H. R. Giger aesthetic. Gonna feature this topic as well, great stuff!

Agreed Dave, now that H.R is no longer with us, I would be happy to see Alex involved again in the future, he totally gets Giger, yet has his own bio-mechanical twist.

He created some absolutely beautiful work for PROMETHEUS. His non-Prometheus artwork is stunning to say the least!

I love this one... so much reminds me of the Pebble ship... with a bit of the Juggernaut to mix..

Would so loved for this to have been found crashed in the lakes in Alien Covenant.

Yes both of those ships are astonishing, I wouldn't be surprised if Steve Messing and Ridley extrapolated the seed/pebble ship from those designs.

Imagine the beauty of a Ridley Scott envisioned prologue scene with one of those massive crashed saucers towering out of the water, it would be sublime!

I would love to see them used in the future. This design is like a beautiful, ornate, gigantic shell...

Some of his paintings show a world I would like to see in an A:C sequel. They are full of enigma and atmosphere. I like his vehicles and ships very much. I would be happy to meet them and his style in the new Alien Universe.

(And, Stalker is one of my favourite movies.)

If I can add some more:
