MemberPraetorianJan-24-2017 6:08 PMWith the possible demise of Alien 5,i'd like to reflect on the last time They attempted to bring Ripley to the big screen.and by that i mean Ridley Scott's proposed idea of making films about Ripley that didn't have xenomorph. How would it have gone? Was it really a good idea? After all Ripley's encounters with the xenomorph are part of what defined her.Of course this idea was quickly set aside for Alien:The Engineers which would eventually become Prometheus. But it's still a curious idea for a movie. What do you guy's think?

MemberDeaconJan-25-2017 2:26 AMI think we cant rule out Alien 5... but i think it was unlikely because it seems the Focus is on Ridley Scott getting this Alien Prequel series made first.
We can assume they will make at least ONE more movie after Alien Covenant and so i think this needs to be made within the next 2-3 years.
So i think Alien 5 would likely be on hold for 4-5 years for sure, as i doubt they would want to end Alien Covenant on a cliff hanger, where we see Daniels and David (or Walter) at the very least left at the end to be set up for the next movie.. without having them involved.
And i dont think they would want to wait 4 years say to shoot the Alien Covenant sequel if its to directly progress from the end of AC (so no 10 years latter) and for that surely Ridley Scott and Fox would be aware of the Aging of Actors.. especially Fassbender as a Android he is not supposed to Age at all... so any delay in a AC Sequel would prove a problem unless Walter Survives and he is a Synthetic Construct and can Age like Arnie did in Terminator Genysis
So i think its a case of working on AC sequel... regardless of reception of AC... any negative comments for this movie would be taken on board for the next but at least ONE more would be made.
Then if Alien 5 seems to be a Topic Alien fans want to see, we may get the movie made.

MemberDeaconJan-25-2017 2:28 AMAs far as Ripley movies, away from Alien connections... i dont think Fox would want to cast Miss Weaver in a movie thats not connected to Alien... and i doubt they would make a Ripley not connected movie as well as Alien Covenants sequel.
Maybe in future we could see a Ripley prequels.... but i would doubt that as far as a MOVIE...

MemberPraetorianJan-25-2017 2:40 AMAs for Alien 5,i agree it's to early to count it out.I think if Ridley wants it to happen it will.If not then James Cameron might save it kind of like he's doing with Terminator right now.

MemberOvomorphJan-25-2017 9:54 AMI loved this idea when I first heard it in 2008 or so. For me, Ripley is a cornerstone of the series & Weaver's acting and image is as important as the Aliens themselves.
Nevertheless I was watching an Alien Theory video yesterday and the guy narrating the vid mentioned one possibility for why Alien 5 might have a slim chance of happening: perhaps Ridley is planning to bring back Ripley into his set of prequels. Also, perhaps Blomkamp is trying to mislead us & that Alien Cov & 5 are more interconnected than we think, I do think that time travel/alt universes is going to be an important of the series coming up.

MemberChestbursterJan-25-2017 10:29 AMTime travel to the Alien universe will be what Resident Evil 6 was to its previous games, that is too much added to the universe in a negative sense, no matter how cool it may sound.
I sincerely hope that there will be no time travel in future Alien films. I don't think Ridley wants to complicate things further, especially considering how AC seem to return to its roots more as a more straightforward film (or so it seems)

MemberPraetorianJan-25-2017 12:15 PMI'm not to certain about the time travel idea either.

MemberTrilobiteJan-25-2017 2:10 PMWith time lines BigDave pointed out and considering Weaver's age, it is difficult to imagine an Alien based movie with her in it like she did in the 70s-90s. Tiago imagined a pretty good concept in the Alien Stories thread however so it seems possible. It worked out great having her narrate for Isolation though.
