A lot of fiction is filled with corrupt,greedy corporations.INGEN,Umbrella,Shinra inc,Aperture Science,UAC,and of course Weyland-Yutani.What does this say about real corporations,are they just as corrupt and greedy?Does mankind have a god complex?And seriously,look at some of those corporations i mentioned,the things they try to do always,ALWAYS,end in catastrophe.They always try things that just out of reach for mankind.They then seemingly achieve the impossible only for it to back fire spectacularly.And then they'll try again no matter what the cost.Weyland-Yutani for example just doesn't seem to understand just how dangerous the xenomorph really is.After all,they've killed pretty much everything anywhere they've gone.But it doesn't stop the company from trying.You decide,if you were with the company,when would say enough is enough.Or is there no such thing as something unattainable.Is weaponizing the xenomorph worth all the death and destruction they have wrought.

Guys and Ladies,

Keep the politics out of the forums, please.  If I wanted to read or hear about politics I would look at the news, not our beloved Scifi forums.  Next Person posting anything about politics will be banished for a week.  Consider this post a warning.

Nin,

To get your thread back on track.  I've worked in the corporate world for the better part of 2 decades.  There are 2 things that I see rampant in the corporate world. 1. Apathy towards other people while --> 2. Chasing the money.

So I could see a lot of relation between the corps in the alien verse and real life.

Here is my reasoning.

Now I've worked in large corporations like GE Aviation.  I've also worked in small family owned businesses.  Either way it's always the same thing the small business chases the dollar at the end of the month while in large corporation you see apathy and backstabbing of fellow workers chasing the promotions to get the dollars.  Its human nature to always over extend themselves trying to move up or acquire more money, by ego, need, greed, or whatever they use to justify doing what they do to move up.

Just an opinion from long time observation.

Regards,

Rick

@Rick,

I can most whole-heartedly agree. My sister was the envy of us all. She worked as a marketing vice-president of a major pharmaceutical company and was making well over 250K a year not including perks. Then she suddenly quit.

My family including me were all shocked but she said she had to do it. She felt like she was "losing her very soul" to an unethical, greedy corporate climate, willing do do anything to turn a profit and please the share-holders.

I am not going to get into the details for her sake, but It hard to believe stuff like what she described actually goes on in large corporations.  It makes even the most far-fetched movie storylines seem plausible.

I am hoping that most companies are not in this same vein...We have to have hope in the goodness of humankind. Otherwise, we are going to run out of alcohol on this planet very soon...

LOL.  I prefer to ruin my body with cheap, bottom of the liquor store shelf, rot-gut.

Thunder-Bird, MD20/20, Boone's Farm, Black & White label...you name it...if its on sale and I've got enough spare change, then it's on like Donkey Kong!

My philosophy is, if its good enough for the winos, then it's good enough for me. Let's beat these livers into submission!

I almost wonder that weylands prime directive order of course started all this just spiraled out of control especially with the a.I. synthetics being everywhere humans are and it effecting them. It's also interesting that the corporation wants it for weapons/science research. Why would they need such a weapon....is there something the corporation knows that would justify such things rather than exterminate the xenomorphs and then research the dead xeno's/engineer technology

Shasta,

I'm trying to think of a way to say this so it makes sense.  So if anyone gets confused I can elaborate some more.  I think between Prometheus and Alien the company received info on the black goo and it's connection to the xeno.  So they want the xeno for military black ops.  So they use the xeno as a cash crop of sorts to fund other projects.  Such as radical human adaptation to new environments.  After all the corporation is in business to make money.  That's the long and short.  So their parallel project would be somehow to tap into the xeno to get the black goo in order to adapt humans to a planet to colonize vs terraforming a planet to humans.  Black goo is more cost effective (once they get the science right).  After all each colonized planet is a W-Y taxing and consumption cash crop.  (kinda like Jupiter Ascending)

All,

The implications of the black goo are literally endless. Think of it -- If Weyland Corporation could get the science of the good properly contained, they could easily:

1) As stated above, prepare humans for an environment versus the most core costly and prolonged, terraforming process.

2) Create entire Armies of deadly bio-weapons which they could sell to the highest bidder on or of earth.

3) Perfect chemical concoctions that can manipulate the human condition and create near perfect bodies...How much is that worth?

4) Give Weyland the ability to create and manipulate genes of virtually every biological organism in existence.

I am no economic major but I'd have to say this is worth a buttload of money of which there is probably no modern day equivalent (except maybe our national debt).

Corporations have acted worse for far less.

@ninXeno426

Totally i get the context that was intended, hopefully this does not go to the Political route as far as Governmental Politics.

We have our own views on it, and each to their own but i dont think a Sci-Fi Forum is the place for such things..

Being in the UK i knew Brexit would be bad.... but alas, the majority voted for it and we just have accept its what democracy is all about....

On a lighter note.... if i was a American here is how i would felt anyway...

"So they use the xeno as a cash crop of sorts to fund other projects."

Why did they wait until the events of Alien 3 to actually make an effort to obtain one?

@Rick

Yes you made sense and I think that is the most probable reason. It was just interesting when the term weapons research came up. There are no inner termoil wars going on that I'm aware of in the alien universe  ( but I could be out of the loop ) and brought up the idea that the corporation "needs" this for something bigger. I'm probably looking to deep into it.

@ninXeno426  You're welcome dude, I got your back bro! Your threads are usually my favorite ones! Yeah there's definitely something going on, their always trying to get a hold of the xeno or any form of the creature, face hugger, etc. A lot of people on here might not like The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, I do they are some of my favorite movies ever, but it's like Oscorp in those movies. They do some great things, cancer research, advancements in technology etc. but they also are involved in a lot of shady stuff. They've been wanting the xeno forever and wanting to weaponize it. I think it all comes down to money, greed will make you do terrible things to get it. And they don't really care how many people get hurt, killed, or whatever to get what they want.

"They've been wanting the xeno forever and wanting to weaponize it."

If by 'forever' you mean July 2179, then I agree.
