MemberPraetorianFeb-11-2017 2:05 PMTo celebrate the upcoming release of Alien Covenant,I would like to take a look back at its predecessor Prometheus. To say the movie has a mixed reception among fans would be an understatement.Where do you stand on the film? What would you have done differently? What do you hope Covenant rectify's?

MemberChestbursterFeb-13-2017 6:18 AMi feel that Rapace is a very good actress but not for this kinda movie
I agree about that, have you seen the original Swedish Millennium trilogy? Her acting was pretty good overall in those films.
As for your ex, damn, doesn't seem like a great relationship lol

MemberNeomorphFeb-15-2017 8:37 AMPrometheus is OK but there are so many dumb and/or uninteresting characters, some lame monsters, uninteresting things so it is a bit annoying. One thing that it got right was the landscapes.
The only interesting characters are David (great acting by Fassbender by the way) and the Captain (Janek). Shaw is naïve and stupid, her boyfriend is uninteresting and a jerk, Fifield and Milburn are stupid because they are just jerks and try to pet a deadly space snake. Weyland is not interesting and doesn’t make much sense (they should have kept his TED talk although maybe in a shorter version) and the other characters are just there as fillers.
Some monsters were alright, namely the Deacon and the Squid. The Engineers didn’t make sense (which was kind of lame since they were an important part of the story) and I didn’t like the Fifield Zombie. Why the F didn’t they put sub-titles when Weyland and the Engineer spoke? Who made that dumb decision? Having Fifield as a Xeno type would have made the Xeno connection clearer because the Fifield Xeno looked way better and it Made more sense (!).
Having some mystery is alright but when there are just so much that you got to guess or should look up beforehand then it is an example of bad film making. Like I have said before everything wasn’t obvious with Alien either but at least the characters compensated for that.
Fassbender and the captain saved this movie from being a disaster. Thanks to them I give Prometheus a 2 out of 5 instead of 1. Being that I have seen some deleted scenes I believe that the faults of this movie comes mainly from bad editing. Is it just me that thinks that Idris Elba did a good job in this or at least alright?
As far as overrated, underrated, or in between I say in between. The potential is there it is just that bad decisions made the movie worse than it could have been which is annoying being that these problems could have been fixed. Maybe the actors did the best that they could but other factors made the movie suffer in quality.
If I shall rank it among the alien movies I would probably put it at number four, after Alien 3, Alien, and Aliens (in that order).
As far as Shaw in Covenant I really hope that she won’t be in it at all except for maybe as a corpse. I just have so much dislike for that character – she is stupid and one of the reasons why Prometheus is worse than it could have been. The character is badly written so I don’t blame Noomi Rapace for that. Someone mentioned the original Millennium movies from Sweden, she did a good job in those. Perhaps someone can get them with English subtitles if that is possible.
Covenant will be interesting, I will give it a chance.

MemberFacehuggerFeb-15-2017 9:59 AMTo me, Prometheus is one of those movies that just didn't quite meet it's utmost potent. The premise was great, but the execution was somewhat lacking.
That being said, it was not "bad" in the truesense of the word (If you want bad, I'll send you my "Dr. Giggles" DVD), just sort of like eating that leftover turkey from Thanksgiving--Okay but nothing to write home about. My rating is "In between."
I feel that over time Prometheus will be appreciated more for all the hidden things & clues throughout the film, especially after we get a few more prequels churned out.
