MemberNeomorphFeb-23-2017 11:43 PMthat's him, too early in the morning for me, brain hasn't warmed up yet haha I think the prologue, obviously, is to give us a little insight into the characters and to show cudrup or whatever his name is, is not captain material and maybe show us before hand that once hes captain, bad decisions will be made that will cost lives?
ninXeno426
MemberPraetorianFeb-23-2017 11:48 PMIt's a great piece of character development.I like Prometheus and some of its characters, but this looks to be a little tighter like Alien and Aliens.

MemberNeomorphFeb-23-2017 11:54 PMyes ridleys gone back to his roots I think with a more 'engineers in space' theme. hes maybe released it because its been cut from the film due to time restraints but views it as a very much needed part of the story and obviously no point in putting it in a deleted scenes extra if he views it that way as the film will have already come out.
ninXeno426
MemberPraetorianFeb-23-2017 11:57 PMIt was directed by his son,Luke Scott.I believe he also directed the TED 2020(?) Viral video for Prometheus.Fun fact:He's also in Alien.

From what I see, when stuff gets real, people follow natural leaders who step up since sometimes assigned leaders don't quite hold up- remember Gorman?
Part of leadership is giving an air of confidence and showing you can sit down and have a good time with the crew, build morale, trust, etc. Tennessee demonstrates that in this short video while the other CPT does not. Even CPT Jake deferred to Tennessee right in Majesty's face. That is a red flag imo.

MemberPraetorianFeb-24-2017 12:09 AMDallas was a good captain,he went into the air vents even though he knew he probably wouldn't come out.I Tennessee or someone else will show those great qualities in a leader that he had.

MemberTrilobiteFeb-24-2017 12:12 AMnin- yep. In addition to what we have said- willingness to do what you would expect of your crew.
ninXeno426
MemberPraetorianFeb-24-2017 12:18 AMIt's the role Ripley repeatedly took on through out the films.

MemberNeomorphFeb-24-2017 12:20 AMdk, to be fair Gorman was knocked out but I get what ur saying and totally agree with it. after the events in the hive I very much doubt anyone would have followed his orders from that point on. yea I got that feeling between those 2 aswell. I think Maj will be a hindrance to the crews efforts. to me he has a special, lasting role to play in AC. by that I don't mean film time, I mean whatever happens/ comes from him, will have a huge impact on the story as will his actions or lack of.

ninXeno426
MemberPraetorianFeb-24-2017 1:38 AMQuite possible.I might post a thread on it,see if anyone can officially confirm it.

MemberOvomorphFeb-24-2017 12:48 PMIt was rather dull and boring (in my opinion). And on the issue of having a same-sex couple included in the initial colonization mission: though it's not very logical to limit the new colony's chances of having the highest possible birthrate after the new colony is up and running, whose to say that the same-sex couple are not going to be sperm donors, whose sperm is used to artificially inseminate the females of the expedition at some point in the future or stored for future use with future generations of the colony. But if this is never addressed in the final cut of the movie...it just may be simply a socio-political statement by Ridley to include them. We'll just have to wait and see.

My thought is that great Leaders are not always born that way, sometimes they are made. Leadership isn't all about being popular, being charismatic, being super-friendly, or even being super nice.
Leadership is and has always been about one who is willing to laying down his thoughts, best interests, and even possibly there own life for the good of the mission, team or whatever.
Somebody that is willing to listen, care, properly delegate, build consensus, and in some cases, have to make a hard choice that is not always popular.
It's the person I wanted to have leading me when I was pounding the turf in Afghanistan & Iraq. It's the person I know will have my back when bullets (or Neomorphs) start flying. Its the person I know has the personal convictions to do what's right even when others are doing wrong.
That what a leader means to me...

MemberOvomorphFeb-24-2017 1:53 PM*I gave this thought it's own topic which should be up shortly... Walter asking Daniels about Nausea, etc. lead me to think about pregnancy (as we already know that she and the captain are a couple). A possible red herring, to lead us in the direction that Walter might have ulterior motives? Follow me on this one:
Any chance Franco's character has been infected by the black goo already? Remember Holloway had a fever before things hit the fan, and looked to be in a similar state before the 2nd trip to the pyramid. Maybe the 'Judas' has access to the goo via some other means and is testing out the effects the same way David did? Perhaps via an unseen salvage mission to 223 sometime between the 2 movies by the Company? The characters seem surprised the captain here isn't feeling well, as if the onset was sudden.
The 'Judas' may even be aware of the distress signal on Paradise prior to the crew's knowledge. Wouldn't that be just like Weyland-Yutani - Toting thousands of human embryo's with access to the ultimate bio weapon ~a weapon which has now been further enhanced by a brilliant operative already planetside? One with 10 years of uninterrupted time to experiment in a self contained environment.
"This ain't their home. It's an installation. Maybe even military. They put it out here in the middle of nowhere because they're not stupid enough to make weapons of mass destruction on their own doorstep"... hmmmm
Suddenly, Ash's, "I admire it's purity" takes on a very dark meaning - one the history of the world is all too familiar with.
