This picture from a set is very intriguing. As far as I can tell, an Engineer appears to have someone under his armpit, taking him somewhere. Possibly to a sacrifice place. Then we can see a smaller humanoid or Engineer on its knees doing to what appears worshiping something.

Possibly a flashback scene or what? They look like they have been charred like the engineers from the trailer.

what do you think is going on here? Maybe they lost their ways and were punished?

Could be all of them reacting to the event that wiped them out. The one is bracing for impact, the one behind him is shielding himself from said event behind his fellow engineer. The one on his knees has his arms up and is bracing for impact as well, shielding his eyes.

Looks to me as normal reaction (for humans anyway) to some horrific event; Microwave blast, Electro-Magnetic Pulse, loss of cell phone signal, radiation-resistant genital crabs...that kind of thing...
